Then, consider the characteristics of the client system you selected (micro, mezzo, or macro) and identify the presenting concern you plan to address.

Black Woman of the South

This discussion post presses you to put Audre Lorde’s notions of black male sexism into conversation with some of our observations from “Black Woman of the South”.

Lorde clearly discusses and critiques the reality of sexism in black communities. What are viable ways to address (and correct) this? In other words, what is the solution to black male sexism? Furthermore, how does Crummell’s essay shed light on this possible solution (or solutions)?

As stated before, this response is more substantive, and will be scored on a 40 point scale instead of the standard 20. Draw upon BOTH readings in your response–give specifics, and please, proofread your work carefully.

3 (three) paragraph minimum.

Answer question from reading

Answer any three of the five questions:

  1. What do you think of Cormoran Strike? What do you think of Robin Ellacott?
  2. Using a hard-bitten investigator assisted by a young, ambitious “Girl Friday” is a classic detective-story trope. What does her character bring to the story? How does their relationship work or not work in your opinion?
  3. When we meet Strike, he is not at a personal high point. What are some of his struggles? He is further developed as the book proceeds – what did you find most interesting or surprising as we learned more about him in Part 1?
  4. Why do you think Strike is so passionate about investigation and being a detective?
  5. How does Strike’s disability affect his investigation? How does it affect how he relates to others? Why do you think his prosthesis pain/discomfort frequently is mentioned?

Everyone must answer this question:

  1. Does the fact that the book was penned by J.K. Rowling affect you view of it? “In speculating as to why J.K. Rowling might have written The Cuckoo’s Calling under a pseudonym, the New York Times wrote, “Ms. Rowling may well have felt that the reaction, both critical and commercial [to Casual Vacancy, her first effort after Harry Potter], was distorted by her fame.” Why do you think she felt compelled to use a pseudonym? If you’ve read her Harry Potter books, do you detect any similarities, either in style or structure?

What the difference between interviewing and interrogation?

In this assignment, you will explore how interrogation is different from interviewing.

Scenario:

You work as a psychology professional for a metropolitan police department. Your primary job is to screen police officers for employment and emotional stability. You make recommendations about their suitability for employment, conduct interviews with police officers to determine whether they should be referred for counseling, and monitor their performance by dialogues with their superiors. You are recognized for your skills as a clinician, and you are asked to participate with a team of interrogators so they may become more proficient in obtaining confessions from suspects.

Compare the relationship of a psychology professional working with a suspect as a client with the relationship of a psychology professional working as a consultant to an interrogator.

Tasks:

In a minimum of 300 words, respond to the following:

  • Part 1: Differentiate between interviewing and interrogation. What are the goals of interviewing and interrogation? In what instances would a psychology professional be involved in an interrogation?
  • Part 2: Identify a context and setting for a forensic psychology professional to be involved in an interrogation. What would be your concerns in taking on the role of or assisting that forensic psychology professional?
  • Part 3: Review the current version of the APA ethics code and the APA resolution on interrogations and identify an ethical principle that potentially conflicts with psychology professionals participating in interrogation. Discuss your choice in relation to the context and setting you identified in Part 2.

Use the current version of the APA ethics code; choose elements of the ethical principles to explore issues, such as “do not harm,” “informed consent,” “use of assessment techniques by unqualified persons,” and “resolving ethics code conflicts in an organization.” Explore the following issues in the context of the scenario above:

  • Who is a psychology professional’s client?
  • With whom does a psychology professional have a professional relationship?
  • Do psychology professionals have any professional (as opposed to “moral”) obligations to suspects?

Situational Approach

Situational Leadership II (SLII) is the most comprehensive, up-to-date, and practical method of effectively managing and developing people, time, and resources in the world. SLII provides leaders with a model and the tools for creating open communication and developing self-reliance in those they manage. It is designed to increase the frequency and quality of conversations about performance and development. As a result, competence is developed, commitment is gained, and talented individuals are retained. SLII is recognized as both a business language and a framework for employee development because it works across cultural, linguistic, and geographical barriers. The foundation lies in teaching leaders to diagnose the needs of an individual or a team and then use the appropriate leadership style to respond to the needs of the person and the situation.

For this forum, review the figure 5.2 in the Dugan text. There are four specific leader styles aligned on the chart. They are directing, coaching, supporting and delegating. These are leader styles. There are also the follower’s developmental levels described as D1 – D4. There is a direct relationship between the followers level of competence and the leader’s style. For each developmental level there is an appropriate style of leadership that should be adopted (i.e. a style that depends on the situation).

Select one of the four leadership styles. Choose a specific follower development level (D1 – D4) and give an example of how this leadership style and developmental level would work in real life. In other words, create a “situation” that needs to be led and explain this concept in your forum.

What is the impact to the nursing profession and to the public related to the projected nursing shortage? Discuss at least one way that the nursing profession is working toward a resolution of this problem

The nursing shortage affords opportunity, but there are consequences, too. Nurses often need to work long hours under stressful conditions, which can result in fatigue , injury , and job dissatisfaction. Nurses suffering in these environments are more prone to making mistakes and medical errors. Patient quality can suffer.

Due to increasing stress from the nursing shortage, health care organizations across the United States and Canada are feeling pressure to quickly improve their recruitment and retention techniques. Reports correlating nurse staff levels to quality of care are proving that the staffing crisis is directly effecting patients.

A range of solutions has been offered as a way to solve the nursing shortage problem that include subsidized funding, wage increases, hiring minority and foreign nurses, and campaigns to improve the profession’s image.

RN wages must rise in the future to end the RN shortage. Inflation-adjusted wages must increase 3.2–3.8 percent per year between 2002 and 2016, with wages cumulatively rising up to 69 percent, to end the shortage. Total RN expenditures would more than double by 2016.
