Introduction

Our reading for this week discusses criminological theory which is the explanation of criminal behavior as well as the behavior of police, attorneys, prosecutors, judges, correctional personnel, victims, and others who play a role in the criminal justice process.

It is important to develop an understanding of why people commit crimes as a baseline to combat crime and to gain a better understanding of criminal activity.

Activity Instructions
For this assignment, compose a research paper that compares and contrasts the following theories:

• Classical approach
• Neoclassical approach
• Biological theories
• Psychological theories
• Sociological theories

Be sure to define each of the five and provide a specific example of the theory. Conduct research and find an example of at least one theory and write a detailed summary about the theory. Also identify how each theory can help identify and prevent crime.

LP2 Assignment: Archaic Greece and the Aegean PowerPoint

Directions: Throughout this course, you will develop ten (10) distinct PowerPoint presentations in which you will document your understanding of the historical periods covered in the course. For each presentation you will collect examples of human creativity from the various era covered by the learning plans. Examples may be drawn from any of the following areas:
• visual arts
• performance
• literature
• philosophy
• history
• music
• architecture
• technology

Once you have chosen the example you wish to represent the learning plan, create a presentation using PowerPoint.

For this assignment, your presentation must include:

a minimum of 7 slides
a cover slide which includes student’s name, the LP number, historical period, and the topic selected
a second slide that tells why the student chose the topic
at least 4 of the slides containing material on the historical period and the topic you chose
a final slide listing the sources used in the presentation in proper APA format
includes specific dates in the PowerPoint and justifies the choice of topic in your examples in the slides presented

The textbook describes how to critically assess the arguments in the first two discussions (Kevin and Elise and Dalton). Use these ONLY as examples for how to use critical thinking skills.

In addition, you will want to review the Universal Intellectual Standards on pages 335-347 and the Logical Fallacies on pages 396 – 399 in the textbook.

You are to assess the arguments made in the essay, “Sweatshirts Sweatshops,” found on pages 406 – 407.
