Using Text Analytical Tools for Business Purposes

Social media has grown to become a very important source of information for travelers to make decisions regarding destinations and hospitality services. Particularly, online product reviews such as those in websites Tripadvior and Yelp have become an essential electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) and have shown to influence consumer behavior and, as result, generate impact on business performances. Therefore, there is an increasing need for businesses to understand what consumers are sharing with each other through these online reviews. In this exercise, you are expected to apply a text analytics tools, i.e., word cloud generator, to online reviews and interpret the results from the business perspective.

Specifically, you need to do the following:

  1. Identify a real business you are interested in;
  2. Propose an idea to use Word Cloud Generator (https://www.wordclouds.com/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.) for business purposes;
  3. Collect data (>100 reviews), run analyses (show graphs), and interpret results (what it means);
  4. Make recommendations to the business.

Note:

  1. You need to provide the rationale for the data you select.
  2. There are different ways to enter the data, how you want the data to be processed (e.g., removing stopwords etc), and how you want the program to display the word clouds. You should explain these specifications in the paper.
  3. There are different ways to use the tool, e.g., to understand what people talk about the business in negative vs. positive reviews, how does the focal business compare with its competitors, etc. You need to be creative!

A few requirements for the paper:

  1. Use a cover page, main body (consisting of sections) and reference page to organize your paper.
  2. Try to limit the main body to eight pages of actual text (including tables, charts, and figures). The paper must be double-spaced and written in twelve-point type with standard margins. The page limit does not include the cover page, a reference page (if applicable), and/or any attachments you would like to include.
  3. You must reference all of the sources you cite in the paper. An APA guideline has been posted on the Canvas site.
  4. The paper is due by 5PM Sunday December 9, 2017. An assignment entry will be created in Canvas to facilitate the submission.

Your work will be evaluated based upon:

  • Description of the business and its environment (20 points)
  • Analyze its market characteristics (30 points)
  • Google Trends ideas (80 points)
  • Communication (20 points): format (e.g., cover page, page number), page limit, grammar, organization, etc.
  • Total: 150 points

cause and effect of problem statement, psychology homework help

Often there are many contributing causes in the development of a specific problem/issue. These causes may be complex and may involve individuals, institutions, and/or environmental factors, for example. This complexity increases the difficulty in creating a solution for the problem. Thus, prior to developing solutions, there must be a critical analysis of the problem/issue. The analysis must address the many potential causes of the problem/issue and determine which had the most impact on its development. Critical analysis relies on the literature and resources that address the specific problem.

In this Application, you will focus on a critical analysis of the problem utilizing the findings from the literature collected in Weeks 4 and 5.

To prepare:

  • Review the resources you collected and summarized in Weeks 4 and 5.
  • Review the questions in the “Critical Analysis Template,” located in the Resources area on the left navigation bar.
  • Think about the causes of the problem or the issue you have identified, and consider who or what are the major contributors to this problem.
  • Think about the impacts of the problem.

The assignment:

By Day 7, briefly describe, in 2-3 pages, the problem/issue and the problem statement you developed.

  1. Identify the major contributors to the problem (who, what) and briefly explain how they contribute to/cause the problem.
  2. Explain at least two causes of the problem.
  3. Explain at least two effects of the problem.

Search the site for “Physical Security. Read the article “Physical security: The overlooked domain” by Robert C. Covington.

Think of a place where you have worked. (Alternatively, you can think of a place where someone you know well works or has worked.) Regardless of the type of job you had, what information did you have access to? Do you believe that an insider could have caused the biggest threat at that place of employment? Why or why not? Think of the physical threats listed in the article and reflect on the company you are thinking of. Did the company have any of these threats (open lobby, poorly secured doors, etc.)?

    Scenario

    You are the campaign manager for a well known environmental outreach organization. The current campaign is to bring awareness to the organization’s Ohio River Clean-Up Project. As the manager, one of your tasks is to review all content and visuals used by the campaign. You actively evaluate and revise any ethical issues that may be detrimental to the project, your organization, or society in general.
    As you meet with one of the campaign designers, you identify several ethical problems with the new poster he has created. His poster includes the following elements:

    1. The poster image shows a group of poor, urban, African-American children playing alongside the Ohio River.
    2. The poster text states: “Let’s help them clean up.”
    3. The poster has several overlaid images in the corner of a few celebrities, which gives the impression of celebrity endorsement.
    4. There are no sources acknowledged anywhere on the poster.
    5. The poster has been digitally altered to make the African-American children appear thinner, darker, and dirtier.

    Since you are flying out to a campaign meeting in one hour, you ask this campaign designer to hold this poster and wait for your video review.
    You plan to take time tomorrow to create a seven minute or less video analysis. Using screen share, you can present the poster image visually and verbally instruct this designer how to correct several ethical visual issues. You realize you will not only have to identify the ethical visual issues and explain how to revise and change them, but you will also need to clearly describe to him the effect these unethical media issues will have on society.

Survey of Western Music History ER #6

In 350 words, compose a synopsis or abstract of extra research you have performed on a specific topic. This week’s topical choices are:

  • Spanish Court Culture and the Villancico, Political borders of eastern europe during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries
  • Portuguese trader and merchant music of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, and the global reach of that music

Your short post should be concise, but substantive, demonstrating that you have spent a bit of time researching and thinking about the topic. Use sources and indexes in our library, campus database, and on the Internet (such as Google scholar, Grove music online, RILM, JSTOR, and so on) to research topics and prepare your synopsis and post. Include sources (such as quotes and links to source material) or you will receive no credit for your post.

Also include media where applicable (such as audiovisual examples). Links must be clickable and media must be functional in order to be assessed. This is as much an exercise in digital scholarship as it is a dive into a music history topic. Organize your research into a mindful analysis, double-check that any embedded media is accessible, and proofread your post before clicking “Post Reply.”

Nota Bene: It is a good practice (especially if you have a variable Internet connection) to compose your Canvas assignments in Google Drive or other similar office software while you are developing your assignment. When you are satisfied that your assignment is ready to be posted, copy and paste your text into Canvas at that time. This will ensure that you do not work in canvas and inadvertently lose your work.
