Staying Relevant Learnscape

In this simulation, you meet with the CEO of Bright Road Health Care System to discuss her concerns about the relevancy of their online resources, given the large Gen Y population the hospital serves, and the projected increase of Gen Z populations in that area. You will work with the Marketing Director of Bright road to learn about their current online and social media resources and utilization information. Using this information, you will then make recommendations to the CEO about how to improve online presence.

Work through the simulation, answer all questions, and submit your proposal. Include your thoughts on what the role of public health is in reaching out to specific demographics. What, if any, role should public health play in social media for various populations, for example the Gen Z population?

  1. Rank order. Now, go back in and re-order these strengths and areas for improvement in rank order. Strengths, in this sense, are positive and should be ordered in terms of 1 equaling “most strength.” Areas for improvement should be ordered in terms of 1 equaling “most need for improvement.”
  1. Learning points. After reviewing both lists, discuss some of what you learned about yourself from this assignment. Did you discover any surprises—either good or not so good? Do you have any plans for improvement in the list of things that you are not particularly good at doing?
  1. Feedback. It is normal that you will complete this assignment without outside help. However, I suggest that you confide in a trusted friend, mentor, or loved one by asking him or her the same questions about you (don’t show your lists until after that person provides an initial list). Try to have a positive and meaningful conversation that allows you to benefit. Now, answer this question: Reflect upon this conversation (with the trusted friend, mentor, or loved one) and discuss some of what you learned—either positive or negative.
  1. Apply strengths. Is there opportunity for you to capitalize on your strengths beyond what you are already doing to increase your chances for greater personal and or career success? Discuss.
  1. Behavior changes. Can you effectively mitigate those areas where you could use improvement to become an even more effective person? Discuss.

analyzing a musical composition essay

For this assignment, you may use outside music hosting sites as a resource to support your research or to locate a composition.

1. Select a musical instrument to explore through research. For example, if you select the guitar, conduct some research on the guitar as an instrument so that you can discuss its origin, age, and diversity of use. You are NOT being asked for a research paper on the instrument. However, you ARE being asked to understand the fundamental structure of your instrument so that you can analyze the tones and sounds it produces for this assignment.

2. Identify a musical composition that features the instrument you have selected. This does not mean that the music is performed only by one instrumentalist, i.e. a guitar solo. It means that the instrument you selected, i.e. the guitar, must be one of the primary instruments in the selection. Perhaps the guitar has a solo section within an ensemble piece, for example.

3. You must know the composer of the music you have selected. You are NOT being asked to provide a biography of the composer. You ARE being asked to find a brief profile on the composer, enough information to give you an introduction to that artist, and to enable you to provide a short profile of the artist, and nore imprtantly what their relationship is to the music.

The heart of your essay must focus on applying some of the elements of music you read about in your chapter to your song and how the instrument employs these elements. Prepare a 3-4 page response paper that discusses your selected instrument and the composition you have chosen. Explain why you have chosen the instrument to study and the composition to listen to. What have you learned about your instrument through focused listening to your music selection?

Please explain the composition in terms of the elements of music covered in the chapter and in the supplemental material in the assignment area. Focus on describing your composition through the correct terms such as tone, rhythm, if the tempo is set by the instrument, what types of sounds it produces, etc.

Please feel free to write about any type of music you wish, but make sure you have identified one specific song to analyze as the basis for this assignment. Be sure to include the title of the song, the composer, and the musician if they are different from the composer. MLA format is required.

A5- Language and Individual Differences

Write a 5–6-page discussion of practical ways to apply to your life your understanding about individual differences in learning and memory, based on three peer-reviewed research articles that help you understand individual learning differences.

Although many effects in memory and psychology in general are presented as universal, applying to everyone at all times and at all places, there are important differences among individuals in how they process and recall information. For instance, demographic differences such as age, gender, and culture of origin may have an impact on how we remember; other dimensions of individual differences may be intelligence, creativity, and motivation. Some of these differences are related to biology; others are related to the social environment; some are related to both.

As you prepare for this assessment, research how one of these variables will change how people experience a learning situation—for example, some learning situations to consider are: learning a foreign language, remembering the names of people at a party, or studying for a biology exam, or other academic test. Think how the dimension of individual difference you selected could explain the differences between your own experiences and those of others you know.

The study of language has existed for more than 40 years. We study language in the context of how we think, read, and comprehend, and how we derive meaning from words. But what about language from our social environment? A new area of linguistic research is the study of language in a social context. From this perspective, language is examined in terms of how people communicate, whether in person or on the Internet. People change their pronunciations, grammar, vocabulary, and styles of language for many different purposes. Given that, sociolinguistics are curious about how language is acquired and learned in the context of one’s gender, community, and society. Some of these differences are related to biology, others are related to the social environment, and some differences are related to both. (Do men and women speak different languages in our culture? Can misspelled words on a person’s Facebook wall hurt their employability?)

For this assignment, think about situations where you had to change your use of language to a different context. How did you change the language, what did you say or do? Feel free to use an example from one of the activities in the course. (For example, when two women are talking, they tend to stand closer together than two men do.)

In your written assignment:

  1. Describe examples of events or situations where you changed your language because of the situation you were in or whom you were speaking to. Since these are personal examples, you can write in first person for this part. Use third person throughout the remainder of the work.
  2. Find at least three peer-reviewed research articles that help you understanding language in a social context.
  3. Describe the theoretical foundation for each study, including the psychological concepts that the researchers are using.
  4. Summarize the research articles including the research questions being asked in each study, the methods and measures, and the conclusions reached in each article.
  5. Address how the research findings on language apply in solving communication problems.
  6. Apply the implications of the research to explain how people use language, and how the knowledge can apply to personal and professional life. (Think about how this information can guide individuals in communication in social contexts).
  7. Describe one or more specific ways that the information can be applied in the workplace to guide and improve communications.

To adequately cover the criteria for the assignment, your paper should be approximately 6–8 pages, not counting the title and references pages. You should have a minimum of three scholarly sources. Strive to be as concise as possible and support your statements and analyses with references and citations from the three academic resources, as well as any additional scholarly or professional (not popular media) resources you might need to add.

Be sure to review the Language and Individual Differences Scoring Guide to review the criteria upon which your assignment will be graded.
