Ethical Leadership SLP

The overall goal of this Session Long Project (SLP) is for you to apply your understanding of some law and ethics topics to an organization of your choice.

You will need to use the Internet or get access to an organization’s policy documents to complete this project. You are not required to physically go to an organization to get access to policy information. Use policy information that is available on the Internet to complete the Module 1–4 SLP components.

What you first need to do (in Module 1) is select an organization where education and/or training occurs. Then in each module (Modules 1–4) discuss what types of policies need to be in place (or are currently in place) in the organization of your choice. (In Module 1 you will examine the ethical responsibilities of teachers/instructors or educational leaders in your organization; in Module 2, the rights and interests of students and/or employees with disabilities; in Module 3, policy about sexual harassment; and in Module 4, measures to ensure a safe learning environment.)

You will need to submit four components of the SLP (one for each module) concerning the particular topics in each module (each modular component of the SLP will be reviewed and assigned a letter grade). In all four SLPs, you will prepare PowerPoint presentations as if you were going to use them to make a presentation to the organization of your choice.

Prepare a 12- to 15-slide PowerPoint presentation in which you:

  • Describe the organization of your choice (e.g., name, mission, population served, etc.)
  • Briefly discuss the historical, social, and political influences that could come into play when you examine various law and ethics issues related to this organization.
  • Discuss the ethical responsibilities of teachers/instructors and/or educational leaders in the organization
  • Utilize the notes function of PowerPoint in order to provide sufficiently detailed information about your organization.
  • Cite a minimum of 3 sources (from background readings and additional sources you find) using correct APA format. You should cite them throughout the presentation and have a references slide.

Please note:

  • You do not need to reveal proprietary information about the organization.
  • The organization should preferably be one with which you are familiar.

Your assignment will be graded according to the SLP Grading Rubric.

*The “organization of your choice” could be a specific elementary school or secondary school. If you are not currently teaching in an elementary or secondary school system, you could select any other organization of your choice (where teaching or training takes place).

Examples of organizations of choice:

The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA), a military teaching hospital, the Naval Education Training Command (NETC), or a major software company that does training.

behaviorism or cognitivism, discussion week 2 help

For this discussion, please choose one of the two options: behaviorism or cognitivism. Taking on the role of either a behaviorist or a cognitivist, you will demonstrate your understanding of your chosen psychological view by explaining why your theory and its history are important for others to understand and apply.

  1. Based on your own experiences, the resources listed above, and the scholarly article from the Ashford University Library you locate, analyze how learning and theory apply in real-life situations by listing the pros and cons of each.
  2. Provide evidence for your stance from your resources.
  3. Please describe two real-life scenarios you have experienced and explain how you applied these psychological principles to the personal, social, or educational issues you mention. Please do not share anything that you would be uncomfortable discussing in a public forum.
  4. Based on the camp you chose, continue to answer the following:

Additional behaviorist questions to consider:

  • Do you agree with the behaviorist view that learning can be described simply in terms of stimulus-response relationships?
  • Do you agree with the behaviorist view that learning only occurs if there is an outward manifestation? Why, or why not?
  • What are the potential advantages of defining learning as a change in behavior when considering your own career (or future career) and/or in your relationships?

Additional cognitivist questions to consider:

  • Do you agree with the cognitivist view that thinking is not a behavior but actually creates important implications affecting behavior
  • Why do cognitivists disagree with the behaviorist view that learning only occurs if there is an outward manifestation? What are the implications to the behavior(s) it identifies?
  • Cognitivism suggests that what we know to be true affects our behaviors and how we learn, What implications might this have in your own career (or future career) and/or in your relationships?

PART 1

Find a “meme” that you think is funny. Provide a link to, or copy and paste a photo of the meme, into your journal. Then, rhetorically analyze how the meme works. 2.5 PARAGRAPHS

Some things to think about: how does the meme “work?” Or, why does it work? How is it constructed? That is, break it down into its parts (thinks like the image, the word choice, the font or size of the words, color, etc.). Think about the meme’s intended audience–who is this aimed at, and why would they find it funny? What if you aren’t part of the meme’s intended audience? Does that make a difference?

Further, what are the expectations or rules for creating a meme? That is, what are its “genre conventions?”

Pleas organize your response into focused paragraphs, and proofread before you submit.

PART 2

Critical thinking…

How do you define it? Why? 2.5 PARAGRAPHS

How have you seen it assigned, or how have you seen it work, in your college assignments and experiences?

Why do you think we put so much effort into and emphasis on critical thinking at the college?

Do you think, in the end, that all of this attention is necessary and valuable? Explain.

Considering all of the steps or stages involved in creating or revising public policy, answer the following questions:

  • Describe the basic steps in the policy-making process.
  • At what stage in the development of correctional policies is it most important to consider the impact of the U.S. Constitution on those policies? Explain.
  • Your response should indicate at what stage in the policy process it is most important to consider the impact of the Constitution, and your response should provide your support for your position.
  • Why did you select your chosen point in the policy process? Explain in detail.
  • References in APA format.

answer below

For this discussion, review the various healthcare settings in your reading (such as hospital, community health center, etc.) and select one. Once selected, research the internet to identify a facility that represents your selected healthcare delivery setting. Review their website and determine:

  • Location and size
  • Mission and values
  • Accreditation and awards
  • How long they have been serving their target population
  • Whether they are part of a system or a single institution
  • Are they for profit or not-for profit
  • The target populations they serve
  • The clinical and client services they provide
  • The type of staff who work in the setting
  • Contributions to the community

In a two to three paragraph discussion post, identify key aspects of the selected healthcare setting, how their mission and values compare with the services they provide and their target populations, the type of staff who work there, any special or unique aspects of the healthcare setting, and your impression of the healthcare setting after reviewing their website. You don’t need to identify the name of the healthcare setting the type.

community advocacy and professional development experiences

Community Advocacy and Professional Development Experiences

The purpose of this assignment is for you to advocate for children and give back to your community by attending professional conferences and by volunteering in the community surrounding the center in which you serve. You will be required to participate in a total of four experiences in which you either volunteer at a community agency/event, or attend a local conference. As with all of our assignments in this class, please consider using your work here in your own professional career portfolio.

Planning the Experiences

Your first goal is to identify ways that you can volunteer or participate in volunteer and professional development opportunities in your community. To help give you ideas of what your four experiences for this assignment might include, the following lists are examples of community agencies/events you could contact or conferences you could attend.

Community Agencies & Events for Volunteer Participation

  • Boys and Girls Clubs
  • Any local events centered around children, or families with children
  • YMCA
  • Family block parties
  • Local health fairs or screenings
  • Parenting classes
  • Reading to children at local libraries
  • Helping with open houses
  • Any other local volunteer work that centers around children, or families with children

Conference Events to Attend for Professional Development

  • Lectures at local community colleges or universities
  • Professional gatherings for ideas, policy, research, advocacy, etc.
  • Workshops and training sessions
  • Any other local professional development opportunities that center around careers in early childhood care and education

There are many ways you can discover when and where events or conferences will occur in your community. A good starting point would be to consult your mentor or program director for knowledge of any local events or gatherings that may be going on. You should also check community bulletin boards, the Internet, local newspapers, community newsletters, etc.

All four of your choices for this assignment must meet the following criteria:

  • Your experience must center on children, or families that have children.
  • Your experiences must take place outside the program where you work
  • You must complete and provide documentation for a total of four (4) different experiences.

Engaging in the Experiences

Once you decide on your experiences, schedule your participation and plan to attend. This assignment is ongoing, and you may complete your four experiences throughout the course of the term. When you attend each of your four experiences, be sure to write a brief description of the event/conference (What was it? Where was it? What was its goal? Who was there, etc.?) While you are attending the event or conference, collect any artifacts that are relevant to you and your professional development.

Also, be sure to get the names and addresses of anyone who facilitated your participation in each experience. You will use this information to write and send “thank-you” letters. After you have completed your experiences, please write and mail a thank you letter to all agencies or people who helped you participate. Submit copies of your “thank you” letters with the assignment.

Reporting on the Experiences

Organize your notes and artifacts and write a 250-word summary for each of the four experiences. Include answers to the following questions in the summaries:

  • What was the experience?
  • Why did you choose this particular experience?
  • What did you learn from this experience?
  • What information did you gain that could help your early childhood program?

To Successfully Complete the Community and Professional Development Assignment:

  • Plan to participate in four volunteer and/or professional development experiences in your community. All of the experiences you choose should focus on children, or families with children.
  • Participate in four experiences throughout the course of the term.
  • Write and send “thank you” letters to all agencies or people who facilitated your participation.
  • Write a 250-word report of each experience (total of four).
  • Submit scanned copies of any artifacts you collected, along with your 250-word reports and “thank you” letters. Please submit all required files in one folder.
