Rasheeda—

The use of self in social work practice is the combining of knowledge, values, & skills gained in social work education with aspects of one’s personal self, including personality traits, belief systems, life experiences, & cultural heritage (Dewane, 2006). I have found that people are more comfortable when they are able to somehow connect or relate. It is interesting to me that clients feel intimidated because they feel like no one can relate to what they are going through when the truth is I have been in their situation, but every situation is different. Most of the clients we see at the agency are starting over & remained in their relationships longer. But many have been in these types of relationships multiple times. Where in my situation I was independent of my spouse, the verbal /emotional abuse was consistent, but one incident of physical abuse that was the end. And once out of that relationship I had a better understanding about sticking to my deal breakers. I think an understanding of what it is to be in that type of relationship allows one to understand the different emotions & feelings they are experiencing. I think it is important to place yourself in the shoes of your clients. While some social workers just want to help not every client is accepting of that automatically. Everyone will be different & you have to meet them where they are to get the best outcome. “The therapist’s use of self then becomes an interactive, subjective, and empathic means of furthering therapeutic action and portending a positive outcome to the treatment” (Ganzer, 2007).

The potential boundary challenges for me would be with those who have DFCS involvement. Foster care has been in my life a decade plus & there are workers who take their job seriously, those who don’t, & those who don’t understand that middle. And when information is presented in court that may send a red flag & when DFCS is involved you still can’t predict what could happen. One of my clients is in the family preservation phase right now so I am learning to advise her without freaking her out at the same time. She makes comments about if they were to take, he son she would kill herself. Although I appreciate how forth coming, she has been in session I pretty sure she talks this openly to her DFCS worker. This was also the case with another client when her using cutting as a coping skill came up in court. Although I understand that she is not trying to seriously harm herself she was shocked it was used against her. And that the judge suggested possibly placing the children in care because he was not fully sold that either parent was stable. However, she had a strong support system at court with her, so I think the mindset if I know this judge like I do. She has support but he is still worried about the cutting. While he is aware of the abuse but he is looking beyond that so stability & best environment is the focus. I want them to be open & safe in the environment we have created so that means being aware not to add more stress but saying things in a supportive way.

  • An explanation of the use of self during your field education experience that you may have encountered or that you might encounter

An early experiences influence who we are as people and professionals, and how our use of self might come across to others. How the relationship experiences inform the assumptions and expectations we make about ourselves, others, and the world we inhabit (Ganzer, 2007). Influential experiences come to represent ‘who we are’ can be found in the thoughts, feelings, and behavior, particularly in the non-verbal communication patterns that we and others adopt. Personal authenticity is about ‘feeling real’ and is often linked to being genuine, honest, and coming across as such—as opposed to feeling a fraud (Osteen, 2011). As an intern at Second chance, Inc., the use of self means sharing myself with my clients through skillful self-disclosure and empathy and the use of self means authentically bringing all I’m made of into the therapeutic relationship for use as a therapeutic tool. Ethically, we have a responsibility to serve others from a position of wellness, to be aware of our values and judgments as we empathize with clients in practice, and to care for ourselves to prevent burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious traumatization. Practitioners are taught that self-knowledge is vital to detecting transference and countertransference, and other dynamics in the therapeutic relationship.

  • A description of potential boundary challenges in your field education experience.

A social worker or an intern should keep in mind the ethical boundaries of the social worker-client relationship. As an intern working with prospective foster caregivers, the use of self places the client and social worker at greater risk for transference and countertransference. It may be negatively affecting the helping relationship. Transference and countertransference can both be powerful tools in therapy if used appropriately, but can also be harmful to the therapeutic relationship and process if not recognized and dealt with. Both transference and countertransference represent how the client acts and feels toward the worker and vice versa. We should be aware of how countertransference may be showing up. We may observe countertransference occurring when we have a strong emotional reaction towards a client. One common example of countertransference is when one finds herself feeling protective and parental towards a client, as that client may be reminding her of her own child (or someone else she feels protective of in her life). Another example is when a client rubs you the wrong way. This may be you experiencing countertransference towards the client as they remind you of another person in your life who incites a similar emotional response from you. The solution is that consultation or supervision will be enough to manage our countertransference.

Lynn—

An explanation of the use of self during your field education experience that you may have encountered or that you might encounter

I most remember the population in which I work, clients are going to be hostile and resentful, and confused due to their mental health/SUD. Reupert suggests that the training and supervision of clinicians should incorporate their personal qualities, as well as the emphasis on theory and technique, since the profession has stressed the importance of the relationship for positive outcomes in therapy and has maintained a focus on person-in-environment (Ganzer 2007).

A description of potential boundary challenges in your field education experience

Setting boundary is the best use of self within the field education, setting boundary things like; not letting the clients take their anger out on me, Humiliate me in front of others, Tell off-color jokes in my company, Invade my personal space. I had mentioned before with the population which I work with and as a social worker I have to guide principle of the person in environment perspective to meet the person where they are at. Most clients are willing to change their mindset and move from contemplation stage in doing this they learn to respect others’ boundaries.

Dry Cough Case Study

The patient in question presents with the indications of headaches some of the follow-up questions that should be asked, include: do you experience allergies, asthma or any other related medical conditions? Have you suffered from a cold or the flu recently? Furthermore, I would ask if he smokes or spends time around people who smoke. Other important questions relevant to this condition are whether the patient has been exposed to air pollution such as excessive dust or fumes.

From the duration of a cough the patient has had it for approximately three months and therefore it can be categorized as a chronic cough (Chung & Pavord, 2008). The same regard the cough is dry and the severity increases in the evening. Frequent nasal congestion can be noted by the patient especially at times when he is exposed to a stimulus such as dust and cold weather (Chung & Pavord, 2008). The classification according to the duration would help in diagnosis since different coughs have distinct occurrences. As a result, the time frame of a cough can give important information regarding the nature of the cough.

To assist in the diagnosis of the cough several tests are required. This is important carefully differentiate between the almost similar types of a cough (Roda, Guihenneuc-Jouyaux, & Momas, 2013). One of the diagnostic tests to undertake is the physical exam where the patient is checked out for the symptoms of a cough. The clinician or the doctor, in this case, uses a stethoscope to listen to the lungs and identify if there are any wheezing sounds. Other diagnostic tests include the likes the examination of the mucus collected from the nose or the throat. This is the test that can be used to determine if the patient is suffering from a bacterial infection. A chest x-ray, on the other hand, can be taken to help diagnose the conditions such as pneumonia. Also, lung function tests can be conducted to measure the amount of air that s breathed in and out by the patient. This will give an indication of how well the lungs are operating. As such this is one of the useful tests that can be used to diagnose the conditions such as asthma. A sinus infection can be diagnosed by the use of a sinus x-ray.

Differential Diagnosis of the Cough

The differential diagnosis, in this case, entails two conditions. A post-viral cough and asthma induced cough. Both coughs share some characteristics such as persistence, the absence of phlegm, severity as well as the duration.

Post-Viral Cough

One of the differential diagnoses is that the patient could have been suffering from a post viral cough that lasts for approximately three months. The feature of this cough is that is dry marked with the absence of phlegm (Chung & Pavord, 2008). The dry hacking cough could have been due to a viral infection. The treatment of this type of a cough may entail cough medicines. Antitussives and expectorants are efficient in the treatment of this type of a cough.

Asthma Induced Cough

On the other hand, the cough can be described as asthma-induced cough. In this case, the cough is dry which could be as a result of cold or dry air (Morice, 2004). In some cases, air pollutants such as cigarette smoke dust and smoke may lead to the development of the persistent dry cough (Roda, Guihenneuc-Jouyaux, & Momas, 2013). Such pollutants are major allergens that may irritate the organs of the respiratory system (Chung & Pavord, 2008). Also, the cold weather could also be an irritant as shown by the increased severity of congestions and coughs in the evening and upon exposure to the cold weather. This is one of the characteristics that is used in the development of the definitive diagnosis as it differentiates asthma induce coughs and the other coughs (Morice, 2004). From the physical examination, the patient in question may be suffering from asthma-induced cough as shown by the tendency of having nasal congestions. Such a cough necessitates treatment with bronchodilators and in some cases antihistamine where the patients show signs of being allergic (Morice, 2004).

The Book of Revelations

Given the vast array of topics we cover here, the final project is fairly open. I would encourage you to look ahead at the topics and perhaps even view/read ahead to see what might spark your interest. Once you find it, you’ll let me know in the first stage of the final project: topic selection. There I’ll be able to tell you if the topic will work and what issues you might encounter with it. Once you have you’re topic, you’ll begin to research it. Here is where you’ll know if it’s going to work or not. Why? Because whatever your topic is, it must includes scholarly sources. Also, you probably don’t know what a scholarly source is.

Rwandan Genocide

After viewing the video Genocide: The Horror Continues and reading the brief from the United Nations International Tribunal for Rwanda, answer the following questions:

You can find the captioned version of this video here.

  1. Should the United States have taken the lead in getting the international community to intervene and try to stop this atrocity? Explain.
  2. After reading the brief and learning about the challenges faced, do you think the United Nations International Tribunal for Rwanda and the international justice system, as a whole, can make a difference?

Respond to the 2 peers posts using guidelines below as well!

In response to your peers’ posts, comment on the strengths and weaknesses of the international justice system versus U.S. law in relation to this example.

I believe that the U.S. should have taken the lead in getting the international community to intervene and stop the atrocity that was going on in Rwanda. The U.S plays a leading role in the world and that is the main reason they should have stepped up. The United States knew what was happening in Rwanda while it was happening and chose not to help or intervene. There is evidence that if President Clinton had decided to step in and react, he would have has the support of congress. Instead, Clinton wanted to leave it to the Rwandan government and rebels and the United Nations peacekeeping mission to end the violence. The word genocide was avoided so that we would not have to react to the killings in Rwanda. Instead of intervening, more than 800,000 Rwandans were brutally murdered in the span of just 100 days. I do think that the United Nations International Tribunal for Rwanda and the international justice system as a whole can make a difference. The ICTR helped to bring justice to all those effected by the genocide in Rwanda. It also serves as an eye opener to countries that these atrocities will not be tolerated in the future.

Baldauf, Scott. (2009) Why the US didn’t intervene in the Rwandan Genocidehttps://www.csmonitor.com/World/Africa/2009/0407/p06s14-woaf.html

The ICTR in Brief (2015) retrieved from http://unictr.irmct.org/en/tribunalAlso come

The United States is one of the most influential country in the whole world. We are the “free world”, and things we do and do not do have a lasting effect on the international community. Should we have gotten involved and intervene is the genocide? Yes, it was a failure in our government to not act. President Clinton’s administration was still fairly new to the presidency and didn’t fully grasp what was going on in Africa. According to “How America Did Nothing to Stop the Genocide” it states that that the government “believed what was happening in Rwanda did not affect US national interests.”(Bissell, 2017) We have to understand that our involvement may have affected us on an economic level, the potential for another war, the lost of Amercian lives. Yet, looking at the full picture we allowed millions of innocent lives to be taken over evil leaders of that nation. There were many signs and events that led to the genocide that the world decided to ignore. Not only did we not get involved but other countries didn’t as well. The President, his cabinet and Congress, all should share part of the blame in regards to the events that occurs.

It was not till after the atrocity that the United Nations began to hold many of the people involved accountable for their actions. The United Nations International Tribunal for Rwanda and the international justice system can make a difference. The “ICTR” since becoming involved has indicted 93 of the member involved in Rwanda. This has given justice to the people of Rwanda and set the base and tone from actions like this ever happen again.

1 INTRODUCTION

UKF uses 2 trading floors in Manchester. The network in one of these is in urgent need of replacement. It no longer meets the stringent demands for availability and performance required for today’s trading floors. All hardware and cabling requires updating along with the design. We are looking for a solution that will not only meet current needs but will be future proof for the next 5 – 10 years, and so continue to deliver a service level that meets our needs for the foreseeable future.

1.1 Project Goals and Objectives

Key goals and objectives for the new network include: –

  • High performance
  • High availability
  • Flexibility, allowing for a range of devices including mobile devices
  • Manageability, a network that will be cost effective to run and provide a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) than our current network.

1.2 Purpose of this Invitation to Tender

This ITT lays out in detail the requirements for the new network, this includes any constraints and limitations. It provides all of the information required for the tender process including specific requirements.

1.3 Form of Tenders

Larry Bates is a recent graduate of UNA and has decided to start out with his own business. His parents have worked in real estate and he would like to work is the same area. However, he wants to start his own office. He has worked for a few years and has saved enough to lease and office and has just received his license. Larry’s major concern is how he is going to get his business promoted so that people have heard about him for listings and potential sales. He has decided to do some advertising, sales promotion and try to get publicity and of course personal selling but he is unsure how money to spend and in which areas.

Questions:

1. What is the best analysis to use to help Larry make his Promotion decision? Explain.

2. Given Larry’s position on the PLC curve what promotion methods should he use at this point? Explain.
