Discussion reply 2

100 words or more reply with reference

One of the most important strategies a teacher can utilize in effectively managing a culturally diverse classroom is to “find ways to make personal connections with their students through informal conversations in which teachers and students discuss personal interests and events in their lives” (Jones & Jones, 2016, p. 65). The foundation of building strong student/teacher relationships is to get to know the students through meaningful conversations by asking questions about their family structure, religion, food, history, traditions, holidays, etc. (Jones & Jones, 2016). A good time and place for this to happen is one on one at lunch in the classroom or in the cafeteria. A meaningful conversation can take place without it feeling threatening to the student. Teachers need to look for opportunities to have these conversations with every student they teach.

Another strategy for a culturally diverse classroom would be for the teacher to model acceptance and respect to all students that are diverse which include “students’ exceptionality or disability, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, social class, religion, immigration status, nationality, or geographic area of origin or last residence” (Jones and Jones, 2016 p. 69). It is the teacher’s responsibility to make sure that each student that they teach feels safe, valued, and respected (Jones & Jones, 2016). According to Conklin (2008), teachers “must model the use of engaging and innovative teaching procedures for our students rather than “deliver” information” (Conklin, 2008, p.661). “At another level, there is also a need to offer our students access to the pedagogical reasoning, feelings, thoughts and actions that accompany our practice across a range of teaching and learning experiences” (Conklin, 2008, p.661). Jesus was the best model to show love and acceptance because He created every individual. In Isaiah 43:7 (King James Version) it says, “Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him”.

Another strategy is focused on the cultural sensitive communication with the students that we teach. During the times that a teacher is having meaningful conversations as listed in the first strategy, they can find out more about the language that the student is familiar with and some of the cultural differences in the communication. Teachers need to seek knowledge in the communication style of the students they serve. Jones and Jones (2016) used the example of a teacher on a field trip motioning children to come with her with her hands. In the children’s language that meant to move away (Jones & Jones, 2016). Teachers need to be careful about non-verbal cues and what that may represent to the student. Other things teachers can be aware of with a diverse student population are “issues involve physical space, the meaning of eye contact, willingness to answer questions, time orientation, being competitive, physical activity while learning, and level of verbal interaction during group discussions” (Jones & Jones, 2016, p. 84).

Has the Supreme Court been right about the value of diversity in a university student body

Please read the attached summary and in your own words (but using proper grammar), in at least 6 pages, analyze and address the following:

Question:
Has the Supreme Court been right about the value of diversity in a university student body? Do you think having fellow students of different races, ethnicities, religions, sexual persuasions, and so forth enhances your possibility of receiving a quality education and having a beneficial educational experience? Does having fellow students of different races, ethnicities, religions, sexual persuasions, and so forth cause students, in your opinion, to have a healthier and more productive attitude/view of students and people in general of different cultures and beliefs? Do you think it is beneficial to American society to continue with race-conscious decisions as to who gets admitted to universities and to university graduate programs? If so, provide your argument in favor of the courts continuing to use the “diversity” guideline. Or, if you believe otherwise, please argue your position.

Discussion Board Replies

Please reply to each discussion board posting. I have attached the grading rubric which contains the instructions for academic source, course textbook and word count for the replies.

Course textbook:

Jick, T. D., & Peiperl, M. A. (2011). Managing change: Cases and concepts (3rd ed.). New York, NY: Irwin/McGraw-Hill. ISBN: 9780073102740.

Topic:

The case of Yinscape and Yanngsearch was designed to provide minimal information on this merger/acquisition. Re-read the case study and imagine the shape and spirit of a newly-merged, cross-national company. You are to assume the role of Yinscape’s CEO. In this role, you must envision a new future for the combined companies. Your thread must describe how you will communicate your vision as though you are addressing a meeting of Yinscape and Yangsearch’s top managers shortly after the acquisition. Creating a compelling vision is a task that requires forethought and sensitivity. In addition, the challenge is increased when you must communicate that vision to a potentially hostile audience. In preparing your thread, consider what questions and concerns you need to anticipate; think realistically about the possible results of the meeting, and decide on what steps to take immediately after the speech.

Prepare your thread in accordance with the Discussion Board Instructions, and review the Discussion Board Grading Rubric prior to posting your thread and replies.

Part 1: Recent Compliance Problem and Enforcement Action

Using your selected article about an alleged legal/ethical compliance breach, answer the following questions (using A,B,C,D,E formatting). If the article does not address the question, state that the article did not address this point.

A. Identify the industry in which the compliance problem occurred or was alleged to have occurred.

B. What is the non-compliant behavior? When did happen? What laws or regulations were allegedly not followed?

C. When did the regulatory agency and/or court take action on this behavior?

D. What penalties and punishments resulted from this behavior?

E. What steps will be taken by the company to prevent the behavior from happening in the future?

Part 2: Student’s Opinion About the Recent Compliance Problem and Enforcement Action

This section is your opinion about the activities your article describes. What do you think about what happened, the company’s behavior, the government’s interventions, the impact on the industry and consumers and the public in general?

Part 3: Student’s Opinion About Compliance

Think about the information you have read in the compliance websites and about the compliance breach and enforcement action in your article, then answer the following questions (using A,B,C,D,E formatting). Do not use Q&A format. Do not restate the question in your paper.

A. Prior to this assignment, did you know the term GRC? After reading the websites listed in this assignment, what is your understanding of GRC today? Did your understanding change? How would you explain the term GRC and the role of compliance to your management team who are unaware of these terms? Does compliance impact all business functions, and if so, how?

B. Prior to this assignment, were you aware that compliance is becoming its own industry? Why do you think compliance is becoming a discrete industry?

NURS4050 FlexPath

Select a community organization or group that you feel would be interested in learning about ethical and policy issues that affect the coordination of care. Then, develop and record a 10-12-slide. Create a detailed narrative script or speakers notes for your presentation, 4-5 pages in length.

As coordinators of care, nurses must be aware of the code of ethics for nurses and health policy issues that affect the coordination of care within the context of the community. To help patients navigate the continuum of care, nurses must be proficient at interpreting and applying the code of ethics for nurses and health policy, specifically, the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Being knowledgeable about ethical and policy issues helps ensure that care coordinators are upholding ethical standards and navigating policy issues that affect patient care.

This assessment provides an opportunity for you to develop a presentation for a local community organization of your choice, which provides an overview of ethical standards and relevant policy issues that affect the coordination of care. Completing this assessment will strengthen your understanding of ethical issues and policies related to the coordination and continuum of care, and will empower you to be a stronger advocate and nursing professional.

It would be an excellent choice to complete the Vila Health: Ethical Decision Making activity prior to developing the presentation. The activity provides a helpful update on the ethical principles that will help with success in this assessment.

Preparation

Your nurse manager at the community care center is well connected and frequently speaks to a variety of community organizations and groups. She has noticed the good work you are doing in your new care coordination role and respects your speaking and presentation skills. Consequently, she thought that an opportunity to speak publicly about contemporary issues in care coordination would be beneficial for your career and has suggested reaching out to a community organization or support group to gauge their interest in hearing from you, as a care center representative, on a topic of interest to both you and your prospective audience.

You have agreed that this is a good idea and have decided to research a community organization or support group that might be interested in learning about ethical and policy issues related to the coordination of care. Your manager has suggested the following community organizations and support groups, but acknowledges that the choice is yours.

  • Homeless shelters.
  • Local religious groups.
  • Nursing homes.
  • Local community organizations (Rotary Club or Kiwanis Club).

To prepare for this assessment, you may wish to:

  • Research your selected community organization or support group.
  • Review the Code of Ethics for Nurses With Interpretive Statements and associated health policy issues, specifically, the ACA.
  • Review the assessment instructions and scoring guide to ensure you understand the work you will be asked to complete.
  • Allocate sufficient time to rehearse your presentation before recording the final version for submission.

Note: Remember that you can submit all, or a portion of, your draft presentation to Smarthinking Tutoring for feedback, before you submit the final version for this assessment. If you plan on using this free service, be mindful of the turnaround time of 24–48 hours for receiving feedback.

Instructions

For this assessment:

  • Choose the community organization or support group that you plan to address.
  • Develop a PowerPoint with typed speaker notes (the script for your voice recording) and audio voice-over recording, intended for that audience. Video is not required.

Note: PowerPoint has a feature to type the speaker notes directly into the presentation. You are encouraged to use that feature or you may choose to submit a separate document. See Microsoft Office Software for technical support about the use of PowerPoint, including voice recording and speaker notes.

For this assessment, develop your presentation slides and speaker notes, then record your presentation. You are not required to deliver your presentation to an actual audience.

Presentation Format and Length

You may use PowerPoint (recommended) or other suitable presentation software to create your slides and add your voice over. If you elect to use an application other than PowerPoint, check with your faculty to avoid potential file compatibility issues.

Be sure that your slide deck includes the following slides:

  • Title slide.
    • Presentation title.
    • Your name.
    • Date.
    • Course number and title.
  • References (at the end of your presentation).

Your slide deck should consist of 10–12 slides, not including a title and references slide with typed speaker notes and audio voice over. Your presentation should not exceed 20 minutes.

Create a detailed narrative script for your presentation, approximately 4–5 pages in length.

Supporting Evidence

Cite 3–5 credible sources from peer-reviewed journals or professional industry publications to support your presentation. Include your source citations on a references page appended to your narrative script.

Grading Requirements

The requirements outlined below correspond to the grading criteria in the Ethical and Policy Factors in Care Coordination Scoring Guide, so be sure to address each point. Read the performance-level descriptions for each criterion to see how your work will be assessed.

  • Explain how governmental policies related to the health and/or safety of the community affect the coordination of care.
    • Provide examples of a specific policy affecting the organization or group.
    • Refer to the assessment resources for help in locating relevant policies.
    • Be sure influential policies include the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).
  • Identify national, state, and local policy provisions that raise ethical questions or dilemmas for care coordination.
    • What are the implications and consequences of specific policy provisions?
    • What evidence do you have to support your conclusions?
  • Assess the impact of the code of ethics for nurses on the coordination and continuum of care.
    • Consider the factors that contribute to health, health disparities, and access to services.
    • Consider the social determinants of health identified in Healthy People 2020 as a framework for your assessment.
    • Provide evidence to support your conclusions.
  • Communicate key ethical and policy issues in a presentation affecting the coordination and continuum of care for a selected community organization or support group. Either speaker notes or audio voice-over are included for a proficient score; both speaker notes and the audio voice over are included for a distinguished score.
    • Present a concise overview.
    • Support your main points and conclusions with relevant and credible evidence.
