Stand up nation

4-5 pages

Choose One

1) Write about how a comedian has changed your mind about or made you rethink a cultural issue. The issue or issues can be anything from politics to race to sexuality to drugs to religion to education to war to gender to love to bacon to death to language to anything that a comedian has made you reconsider.

The paper should first describe your initial position/feelings about the issue, then present your interpretation of the comedians point of view, and finally illustrate how it has changed your beliefs, positively or negatively from where you began.

You can use any comedian(s) you want, from class or not. If nothing else, its an excuse to spend hours on end trolling for stand-up clips. Good times.

2) This paper topic allows the student to become the Master for once. Its your chance to decide what should be on the syllabus. Between now and the due date, your assignment is to watch TWO comedians with similar thematic elements on your own, or with friends and familyor a pet of whom youre particularly fond. Once you watch them, imagine youre responsible for leading a discussion about them. What would you impart to your students about humor, stand-up, and any specific issues that these performers represent? It is important that you actually watch the comedians you discuss, because ideally, this class will have changed the way you think about comedy youve seen 20 times. Youre getting college credit to watch funny people: appreciate that, dont take it for granted.

Elementary and Intermediate Algebra, management homework help

Read the following instructions in order to complete this discussion, and review the exampleof how to complete the math required for this assignment:

  1. Think of something you want or need for which you currently do not have the funds. It could be a vehicle, boat, horse, jewelry, property, vacation, college fund, retirement money, or something else. Pick something which cost somewhere between $2000 and $50,000.
  2. On page 270 of Elementary and Intermediate Algebra you will find the “Present Value Formula,” which computes how much money you need to start with now to achieve a desired monetary goal. Assume you will find an investment which promises somewhere between 5% and 10% interest on your money and you want to purchase your desired item in 12 years. (Remember that the higher the return, usually the riskier the investment, so think carefully before deciding on the interest rate.)
  3. State the following in your discussion:
    • The desired item
    • How much it will cost in 12 years
    • The interest rate you have chosen to go with from part b
  4. Set up the formula and work the computational steps one by one, explaining how each step is worked, especially what the negative exponent means. Explain what the answer means.
  5. Does this formula look familiar to any other formulas you are aware of? If so, which formula(s) and how is it similar?
  6. Incorporate the following five math vocabulary words into your discussion. Use boldfont to emphasize the words in your writing (Do not write definitions for the words; use them appropriately in sentences describing your math work.):
    • Power
    • Reciprocal
    • Negative exponent
    • Position
    • Rules of exponents

Your initial post should be 250 words in length.

paper on courts, prosecution and the defense for CRJ 100 class

Assignment 2: Courts, Prosecution, and the Defense

Due Week 7 and worth 110 points

The courts have one of the most important roles in the criminal justice system. They are responsible for the interpretation and application of law when crimes are committed, They exert some of their greatest influence when it involves due process under the law. The due process model argues that the greatest concern of the justice system should be providing fair and equitable treatment to those accused of crime. This perspective is demonstrated through the courts’ involvement with the police in controlling search and seizure and interrogation, protecting the rights of the accused, in cases like Miranda v. Arizona and Weeks v. United States. Have concerns over due process and protecting the “allegedly” innocent led to the guilty also being spared, as the crime control model would argue?

Criminologist Herbert Packer’s assembly line concept finds that although there are many people who commit crime and are arrested and charged, only about 21 adults are incarcerated for every 1000 serious crimes committed. Additionally, 80 percent of all felony cases and over 90 percent of misdemeanors are settled without trial.

On the other hand, over time, the Supreme Court has been diminishing the scope of the exclusionary rule. This normally excludes improperly obtained evidence by permitting more exceptions, thus allowing more “improperly obtained evidence” into court. For example, evidence is now admissible in court if the police officers acted in good faith by first obtaining court approval for their search, even if the warrant they received was deficient or faulty. This has come to be known as the good faith exception.

Based on your understanding from the readings in chapters 6-8, and keeping in mind the due process and crime control models, write a 2- to 3-page paper in which you discuss:

  1. Have criminals been given too many rights by the courts?
  2. Should courts be more concerned with the rights of victims or the rights of the offenders?
  3. Should illegally seized evidence be excluded from trial, even though it is conclusive proof of a person’s criminal acts?

Use your textbook and at least two (2) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify as quality resources.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Explain the development of American courts and illustrate the concept of the dual-court system.
  • Distinguish between the various courtroom participants and describe the stages in a criminal

Can you write me an essay about a Ted Talk topic?

Once you find a TED talk that inspires you, listen to it carefully and take notes. What are some key points that the speaker discusses? Using that TED talk as your base, write an essay arguing your view on the particular topic. What is your response to the speaker’s overall message? Do you agree or disagree with the speaker’s main point? Why? Assess the validity of the speaker’s arguments through your own research and experience. You may even expand on the speaker’s arguments by presenting your own arguments. In developing your body paragraphs, you need your own evidence and analysis to support your viewpoints. As always, your supporting evidence can be derived from research, personal experience or observation.

Below is a sample TED talk and an essay written by a student:

Early in the text Utilitarianism, John Stuart Mill, psychology homework help

Early in the text Utilitarianism, John Stuart Mill (2014) says that utilitarianism is based on a “theory of life” that some have called “a doctrine worthy only of swine.” What is this “theory of life,” and how does he draw upon it to defend the utilitarian theory of morality? What do critics mean when they call this a “doctrine worthy only of swine,” and how does Mill respond to that criticism? Do you think that his response vindicates this “theory of life”, or is he mistaken about what has ultimate value in human life? Finally, does his view make utilitarianism more plausible or less plausible as a moral theory? Your posts should demonstrate that you have read and thought critically about Mill’s text.

Community Change

Write a 2-3 page paper (excluding title and reference pages) that identifies a problem faced by your community. Discuss how a model of community change could be implemented to improve the problem.

  1. Describe six features of your community (e.g., cultural make up, size, and locality).
  2. Define the problem (e.g., obesity, environmental pollution, teenage pregnancy, graffiti, truancy, gangs, drugs, child labor, or insufficient educational programs) and explain why the problem is detrimental to the community.

    2. At least three aspects of the problem you think that the model will struggle to solve and provide reasoning as to why.
