Essay ( 2 page and half )

Grendel Essay Directions: Grendel Synthesis Paper for English IV, Most or all chapters

Requirements: 2 or more pages (single or 1.5 spaced) about a central idea making thoughtful connections to 2 or more texts both explicitly in the form of short quotes and implicitly.

Your paper must have a question that is discussed.
Your paper upon the first draft will have a claim.
Think of claims the way you think of passwords. There are weak, moderate, and strong ones. You would ultimately like a strong claim, that may or may not answer your question, but rather examines multiple possibilities.

You may want to consider an argument structure that is attributed to Hegel:
THESIS
ANTITHESIS
SYNTHESIS
More on this later, or feel free to ask Google.

Grading Criteria: See English IV Assessment Standards for gradients, but the topics are as follows:
*Analysis of Text
*Evaluation of Text
*Employment of language to further meaning
*Personal connections (actual personal ones or in the abstract)
*Connections among texts

Thoughts about topics
You may choose any question that has been raised, or:
What are the larger questions that we are asked to consider by Gardner, Ferlinghetti, and the other poets so far?

  • What role does job analysis play in developing a job description and subsequent job posting?

Week 9 Human resource Management Discussion

Hiring Decisions: Motivation vs. Ability (20 points)

Discuss whether ability or motivation is more important in selecting the right person for the right job. Explain your rationale.

Respond to:

I think ability is more important in selecting the right person for the right job. The right person can be motivated through money/bonus, possibility of promotions, and other factors or benefits. A motivated person can be ambitious and excited to learn but may cost a company more time and money to train and bring up to speed. It would be great, from a company’s stand point, to have a candidate that possess both ability and motivation to do the job.

The New Testament

250 words. APA format. 2 scholary sources for each question.

1. Try and define the New Testament to someone who has never before heard of it. How did the New Testament come to us? What language was it written in and why? When was The New Testament first translated into English, what was this translation called? In what ways does this collection of early Christian documents resemble the scriptures of other world religions? In what ways does the New Testament differ from other sacred texts? Why should we study the New Testament in its original language, rather than just English? How does the linguistics of the texts make a difference?

2. Does the “Synoptic Problem” present an issue for you and your understanding of the truth of Scripture? How might the differences in story, style and content of the Gospel books actually lead the reader into a better understanding of who Jesus was and what the church believed about Him than they might have with only a single Gospel account? What part did the early Christian Communities have in authorship? What do the Early Church Fathers tell us? (http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/churchfathers.html)
For example, much of the material that appears only in Luke’s Gospel highlights Jesus’ concern for women, the poor and social outcasts. Luke was not a disciple, so where did he get his material from? The parables unique to his account – such as the prodigal son, the good Samaritan, and Lazarus and the rich man – emphasizes unexpected reversals of society’s accepted norms. What view of Jesus’ character and teaching do you think Luke wishes to promote? Do you think this portrayal should affect the actions and priorities of those who follow Christ?

Analyzing Writers Invention Strategies

FOCUS: This paper assignment gives you the opportunity to deeply analyze Harlem Renaissance writers’ invention strategies you have seen at work in the texts we have studied in this first half of the semester. To analyze invention, you will want to ask what activities the writer had to engage in to create the text, as well as what new ideas the writer forms in the text. This paper also asks you to consider the invention techniques in the same way of an individual who was or currently is in the public eye (1960-present) and whether the activities used in creating his/her texts, as well as the new ideas that form in these texts are similar or different from the Harlem Renaissance writers we have studied.

DEVELOPMENT: To get started, you will want to choose at least two different Harlem Renaissance writers we have read this semester and analyze their texts for invention techniques. Once you have outlined the invention techniques at work in these writers’ texts, you will want to consider how the two writers’ activities and ideas in invention are similar or different. Next, you will choose an individual in the public eye (1960-present) who has a text you can analyze for invention. This person could be a popular singer, politician, movie director, rapper, artist, novelist, poet, Civil Rights leader, activist, ect. The text you evaluate for invention could be a song, music video, musical performance, speech, film, painting, short excerpt from a novel, poem, etc. After you analyze invention strategies in this text, you will then need to consider how these are similar or different to the writings you chose from our class.

ARRANGEMENT: Your paper can be arranged in any way you feel communicates your message clearly. Do not feel restricted to a five-paragraph essay or that you have to include a formal thesis at the end of your first paragraph. You should arrange your paper in a way that you feel comfortable with and that your chosen, “real” audience can understand and follow.

AUDIENCE: For this paper, you are to choose an audience to address that you feel could benefit from the information you are sharing about Harlem Renaissance writers, as well as a text from someone who was or is in the public eye. Pick an audience that is real in your life that you would want to tell about what you have learned about invention of Harlem Renaissance writers, and an individual in the public eye.

LANGUAGE: The language you use in your paper should be appropriate for your audience. For example, if you are writing to a close friend or family member, you would choose to write in language that is more informal and conversational. It is perfectly fine and encouraged to use “I” in your papers and include your reactions to the texts as you analyze invention techniques.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 5-6 pages, double-spaced, 12 pt., Times New Roman or Garamond font, Due Dates for First Version and Final Paper appear on the Daily Schedule of your syllabus. Also, you need to include a visual cover page for this assignment. The visual cover page should shed light on a point in your writing and give your audience an idea of what your paper will cover.

Invention Questions to Drive Your Analysis of Texts

Invention

  • What is invention? (What cognitive, social and other activities did the writer/writers have to engage in to create the text?)
  • What’s being invented? (What attitudes, beliefs, practices, ideas, etc. emerge from the text? If you get stuck, ask yourself what you know, think, feel, as a result of engaging with the text. What ideas, feelings, beliefs, etc. have changed as a result of your reading?

Nursing Question

Module 10 Content

  1. Course Competencies:
    • Incorporate professional values, attitudes, and expectations regarding ageism when caring for the older adult.
    • Outline the importance of advocating for older adults in management of their care.

Your supervisor provided some valuable feedback in response to your outline! They are excited to see the PowerPoint slideshow you are creating for your topic’s in-service training. Having developed a number of presentations for in-services, your supervisor offered the following advice:
“When developing a slideshow, it’s important to be mindful of how you layout your content. For an in-service presentation, the slides should present key points, be arranged logically, without extraneous information contributing to a cluttered look. The audience should get a lot of the content from listening to what you say, not just from reading the slides. Using the Speaker Notes feature in PowerPoint is a great way to include relevant details that you want to provide without overloading the slides.”
Your supervisor wants you to work from your outline and prepare a visually appealing PowerPoint slideshow for the in-service presentation. They said it should:

    1. Have a title slide.
    2. Contain 6-10 content slides pertaining to the important content areas for your presentation topic.
    3. Use the Speaker Notes feature in PowerPoint to reduce the amount of text that appears on the slides. (The Speaker Notes will contain the text that will guide what you say while presenting the slides.)
    4. Be written using proper spelling/grammar.
    5. Cite at least 2 credible references and present the sources in APA format on a References slide.

For information about creating PowerPoint presentations or adding Speaker Notes, consult the resources below.

What do you think about points the author stated in question 1 and 2 ?

Question 1:

Why did women give so much to help men in the army when they did not care to think they were important politically or allow them to serve themselves?

On page 265 of the textbook it states “The most common battlefield role of women was the nurse- the “angel” of the battlefield who comforted wounded and dying soldiers, representing domestic tranquility in the midst of the armed conflict…female nurses had to fight their own kinds of battles with male medical officers for the opportunity to serve.” Clearly the nurturing aspect of taking care of the wounded and sick was associated as a woman’s duty early on which made them great nurses. But women with that even had to fight for that opportunity to be apart of the aiding of soldiers in the army.

But with the war, women struggled. As mentioned on page 248, “Women struggled to support their families without the aid of husbands, sons, and brothers.” So with that, the war had a large effect on women back in their hometown, which therefore had them demand more support for their families from the confederate government.

If women were so willing to work, and try to support themselves why weren’t Men/the government more in favor of supporting these women with that choice? I know that a huge issue included men not believing that women were capable to handle work, or not skilled enough but the women were so subordinate to men yet when it came to them needing something then they had faith that they were good at their job.

Question 2:

How do you think men viewed the roles of women after the war? Do you think women received the credit they deserved?

Women had long been seen as stay at home mothers before World War Two and only that. The stereotypical, perfect American family had the father that brought home the bacon each day during the week and the mother who raised their children. The fact of the matter is, women always worked outside the house but it just wasn’t glorified as much. These women were usually in the lower class or the minority and many men did not have the best attitude toward them. A male could better suit their jobs, the men believed. During WWII all of this changed and a revolution in the work force was eventually seen. Numbers of women working outside the home rose exponentially and they thought they were there to stay. Women also played a large role in the military, which had never been seen before. Gender roles had changed in the modern world; women throughout the nation made a huge impact on the Second World War efforts. The question is, do you believe men believed women deserve stronger roles after the war and did they receive the credit they deserved?
