Elora Jean & Co Sexual Harassment Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Management Assignment Homework Help

  1,500–2,000 words with references

In the last few weeks as a human resources (HR) consultant at Elora Jean & Co., you have reviewed several issues, made recommendations, and developed policies. In addition to the issues previously reviewed, the owner has advised you of the following situation:

A charge was recently filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) by an employee. The charge states that two female employees in one of the nonunion satellite offices were subject to repeated and unwelcome sexual advances by their male supervisor. The charge further states that the two women previously complained to the supervisor’s immediate superior, letting him know that they felt uncomfortable and would like the behavior to stop. The harassment did not stop; rather, it continued over a period of 3 months. At that point, the female employees decided that the company would not help. They decided to file a claim with the EEOC, stating they were being sexually harassed at work.

The owner is certain that the company can put together a response that will clear it of the charge, and she asked if you felt they had a strong case. You state that you are not legal counsel for Elora Jean & Co.; however, you request permission to investigate the claim before giving your thoughts on the company’s documentation for legal defense.

Given your knowledge of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, you are concerned with Elora Jean & Co.’s ability to defend the EEOC charge. You plan to engage in your own investigation into the claim to learn more about the complaints made, who had knowledge, what type of investigation was conducted (if any), and what actions were taken. As part of your investigation, you learn that Elora Jean & Co. does not have any policies or procedures relating to sexual harassment in the workplace.

You need to address and advise the owner of Elora Jean & Co. on courses of action. Present your evaluation in a written memo to the owner. As you prepare your strategy for investigating the claim, consider the following:

  • What is the legal definition of sexual harassment?
  • What investigation process should Elora Jean & Co. have engaged in when the claims were first made? Why will that be important to the defense of the EEOC charge?
  • What is the legal liability for Elora Jean & Co. if the EEOC investigation finds the charge to be factual with employer knowledge of the events? Consider the options of mediation versus litigation with regard to organizational cost.
  • What elements would you recommend be included in a sexual harassment policy?
  • What should Elora Jean & Co. do to prevent this type of charge in the future?
  • Research and briefly summarize a recent case of sexual harassment that was won by the employee. Provide information relating to the financial outcome of the case.
  • What implications does the Civil Rights Act of 1991 have for employers?
  • What are your overall recommendations for the owner with regard to preparing a response to the EEOC charge?

EDGR 506: What Am I Called to Do and Who Am I Called to Be?

This assignment is the first in a series of assignments that will
result in your final Personal Leadership Statement due in Week 4. This
week, you will express an intentional and informed understanding of your
leadership values and your calling.

Kleinhans (2005) stated, “If vocation is God’s call, there are too
many Christians who expect that call to be difficult to understand. It
is not uncommon to hear the assertion that ‘God has a personal plan for
my life’” (p. 401). Kleinhans offered a different perspective suggesting
that God is already at work in your everyday life. Thus, your calling
is found within the scope of what you do, be it a secular job or other.

After reading the article, The Work of a Christian: Vocation in Lutheran Perspective (Kleinhans, 2005), to inform your understanding of calling/vocation, and completing the Individual Core Values Identification (Concordia University – Portland, n.d.-a), write a 2-page paper to address the following:

  • Articulate your core leadership values and your emerging understanding of your calling.
    • It is not required or expected that your concept of calling will be
aligned directly with the Lutheran perspective presented in the article.
You can incorporate calling in your paper as is appropriate to your
      life.
  • Articulate what you are called to do and how your calling/vocation and your job are aligned (or not aligned).
  • Include your top five values and examples of how your values are
exhibited (or not exhibited) through your leadership at work and in
    other areas of your life.
  • If you do need to add courage as a new value to bring your espoused values to the level of a value in use, please do so.

Support your statements with evidence from the required studies and your research. Cite and reference your sources in APA style.

2 short story questions

“Sea Oak”

George Saunders

  1. How would you define “The American Dream”?
  1. The narrator works at Joysticks, a kind of Hooters for women where male waiters put their goods on display. The narrator and his extended family live at Sea Oak, a subsidized housing project, where there’s no sea and no oak. How do these circumstances and settings reflect and/or challenge “The American Dream”?
  1. Saunders gives fictional names to actions, places, and television shows; he capitalizes these labels. For instance, the narrator works as a “Pilot” at “Joysticks,” where each shift begins with the manager announcing “Shirts Off”; Aunt Bernie works at “DrugTown”; Min and Jade watch TV shows with titles like “How My Child Died Violently.” Why does Saunders capitalize these labels? By using these labels, what might Saunders be implying about American culture.
  1. Min and Jade have a certain way of speaking to each other. How does the way Min and Jade speak differ from the way the narrator speaks, from the way Aunt Bernie speaks? Compare the way Aunt Bernie speaks at the beginning of the story to the way she speaks at the end of the story. What does the way these characters speak reveal about them and their circumstances?
  1. How would you characterize Aunt Bernie’s attitude at the beginning of the story? How would you characterize her attitude at the end? How does her attitude change? Why does her attitude change? What does this change of attitude have to say about “The American Dream”?
  1. Are the main character’s—the narrator, his sister Min, her baby Troy, their cousin Jade, and her baby Mac—circumstances better off at the end of the story than in the beginning? How might the main characters’ circumstances have improved, stayed the same, or worsened? Do you think the group will move out of Sea Oak, as planned? Why or why not?

“Secretary”

Mary Gaitskill

1. The narrator, Debby Roe, expresses a number of conflicting feelings. Characterize how her feelings toward both her family and her boss are conflicted. What does she find comforting and/or attractive about each? What does she find annoying and/or repulsive?

  1. The narrator seems to both endure and enjoy several erotic, sadomasochistic encounters with the lawyer who employs her as his secretary. Is this story primarily about sex? If we remove sex for the equation, what else might this story have to say about the human condition?
  1. At the end of the story, the lawyer runs for mayor of Westland. The narrator states that “for the first time, I felt an uncomplicated disgust for the lawyer.” Why does narrator feel this way? Does her disgust have anything to do with her sadomasochistic encounters with the lawyer? What does the use of the word “uncomplicated” imply about the narrator’s previous feelings toward the lawyer?
  1. At the end of the story, the narrator gets a call from a newspaper reporter looking for information on the lawyer, who the reporter claims has “an awful reputation” and “no business running for public office.” Why does the narrator decline to speak to the reporter and thus protect the lawyer?
  1. What does the end of the story have to say about the connection between sex and politics? How do the narrator’s conflicted feelings about the lawyer complicate the use of sexual behavior to demonize politicians?
  1. Is the narrator a victim of her boss, the lawyer? How? How not?

Project 2: Find Trends in Your Profession (References Jan 14, Project Jan 22)

You are to provide a research paper that provides a summary of the three top trends in your industry (with associated NAICS codes). Supply sufficient background for your reader that the trend is clear and supported by resources you have found. Review resources in References and Citations to ensure that you are using “in text” citations to give credit for the ideas of other authors and to build your credibility as a researcher, neither ignoring sources nor quoting excessively.

You will develop a paper that accomplishes two objectives:

  • It will identify the three top trends in your industry and your rationale, based on the resources you have found, for your choices;
  • It will discuss the issue within one of the trends that you deem important, based on the current state of the industry, and will be supported by your analysis of facts and a well-reasoned conclusion of what it means to the industry.

Start with an outline and flesh out the main themes with supporting statements. This will become your roadmap to an organized paper. Draft, sleep on it, and edit. Repeat.

Your paper will be 5-7 pages, not including your cover page and References page(s), double-spaced and set up in APA standards. It does not require an abstract.

Your citations, both “in text” and in References will be in accordance with the APA Style Manual Sixth Edition .

Your headings will follow this general pattern:

Paper Title (First level position, not bold)

  • Findings (First level heading, centered, bold)

Top Trends of the _____ Industry (Second level heading, bold, flush left)

An important emerging issue in a trend (and what it means in context to the industry) (Second level heading, bold, flush left)

  • Conclusions (First level heading, centered, bold)

References (New page, first level position, not bold)

Business law paper help

You are the manager of Acme Fireworks, a fireworks retailer who sells fireworks, puts on ground display fireworks, and large aerial display fireworks. The company started in the owner’s garage two years ago and now has 15 employees that you manage. The company started as a sole proprietorship, and the owner has never changed the entity. The owner has informed you that the company has received inquiries from several large businesses wondering if the company could create several fireworks displays on a regular basis. The owner told the inquirers that the company could fill such display orders, and a price per display was agreed upon. It was discussed that most of the cost for a fireworks display is for skilled labor, insurance, and the actual service of setting off the fireworks. No other details were discussed. The owner is anticipating that new employees will need to be hired, but he is worried that if the large orders for fireworks displays do not continue, the company will not have the funds to pay the new employees. The owner is now considering changing the business entity, but he does not know what entity to form or how to form it.
