Developing Test Items

In Week 3, you submitted your test specifications. Now, you should incorporate your Instructor’s feedback and create your test items. Remember to write your items so that they are clear and unambiguous. Avoid compound items (e.g., “I am happy most days and I usually like to smile”). Also make sure that the items are representative of the construct that you are measuring.

Feedback to Learner 6/27/18 10:54 PM

I was kind of expecting to see you use the form that accompanies the assignment instructions. I like the opening paragraph that builds a foundation for psychological testing. It appears that you want to focus on the construct of “intelligence” which is good. The next part of the assignment was to suggest how you would define the construct. I didn’t see much there as you moved into information on the WAIS. The next section was supposed to focus on areas that you would use to help you create items (interviews, or the literature) and then you were to present an item that you wrote that would be used to measure the construct.

I think you are off a little with the expectation of the assignment. This is an assignment designed to start you on the steps of creating your own scale.

The Effects of Personnel Selection (3 paragraphs)

Personnel selection is any process that is used to make a personnel decision. It can include tests, work samples, biographical data forms, background investigations, interviews, and reference checks. The process is used to assess candidates and to predict future job performance. Throughout history, issues related to personnel selection have led to various court cases. In December 1970, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF) presented its argument to the Supreme Court on behalf of 13 African-American employees of Duke Power Company’s Dan River Steam Station. Duke Power Company had a history of limiting African-Americans to the labor department, which was the lowest paying department in the company. After Congress passed Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Duke Power stopped blatantly limiting African-Americans from working in other departments, but they announced new requirements for hiring, promotions, and transfers. Applicants had to have a high school diploma or scores on standardized IQ tests equal to those of the average high school graduate in order to work in other departments. The LDF argued that the company’s hiring, promotion, and transfer standards perpetuated discrimination within the organization, and that Duke’s standards did not measure ability for successful job performance. In the landmark case of Griggs v Duke Power Co., the Supreme Court ruled against Duke Power because the company could not prove that its selection procedures predicted job performance. In its ruling, the Supreme Court explained that Title VII does not prohibit personnel selection standards, such as testing and diploma requirements, but those selection standards must predict job performance (NAACP, n.d.). This is an example of not using job analysis in personnel selection. This example has implications in personnel selection from human resources, financial, and legal perspectives. For this Discussion, read the legal case, Griggs v Duke Power Co., and consider the implications of job analysis in the case.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 3 an explanation of one implication of job analysis in personnel selection from a human resources perspective. Then, explain one implication of job analysis in personnel selection from a financial perspective. Finally, explain one implication of job analysis in personnel selection from a legal perspective. Be specific and use examples.

Your post should be three paragraphs. Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to relevant literature. APA format.

Individual Project by serving your local community

Individual Project by serving your local community

Many class projects involve case studies or simulations involving fictional companies or organizations. To create a database for a fictional company, students would face hypothetical problems, but a student would not have the experience of dealing with real people or the real-world problems of an organization.

In this service learning based project, you are expected to identify a local small business (for example, a grocery store) in your community, and apply your knowledge about IT and business to analyze the role of IT for this business, and develop an IT Plan for it. The plan would specify (at a high level) the key IT applications that the business should focus on, the underlying infrastructure technologies necessary to support these applications, how to go about achieving this (e.g., sequencing the introduction of major applications), whether services should be delivered via in-house resources or outsources, etc. Explain how the IT plan is consistent with (and whether it suggests changes to) the business needs, financial resources, competitive position etc.

You can assume that you are hired by a local small business company as an IT consultant. You are given 500-10,000 dollars to improve or setup its information systems. What is your Information System plan for the company?

A useful way to structure your research and project results is the following.

  1. Introduce the context: the small business company introduction, its products, markets, and mission.
  2. Discuss the problems with its current information processing abilities – analyze whether it is inadequate in satisfying computing requirements, misaligned with firm strategy, not cost effective etc.
  3. Develop and justify your proposed IT strategy. What new technologies should be introduced? What applications would they support, and who would use them to do what differently?
  4. Summary.

The report of the project will be at least 6 pages (Double Space) excluding references, summary, and title page.

All references and sources must be listed.

Recommendations for success, business and finance homework help

You have just attended a manager’s meeting about establishing self-directed, high-performing teams. The company is concerned because some of the managers are having success building self-directed, high-performing teams while others are not. A discussion occurred that identified the characteristics of the successful team building elements and compared them to those managers that have not been successful. This is a situation where those who are struggling need to learn from those who are doing well. The discussions included identifying what could be going wrong and what steps might be taken for success.

You have been asked to write a research report that summarizes the meeting and offers some recommendations that might be helpful to those managers who are struggling. Specifically, your report must include:

  • Identification of the difficulties the managers may be having in establishing self-directed, high-performing teams
  • Identification of the successful characteristic of establishing self-directed, high-performing teams
  • Recommendations for success
  • A designed plan that might help guide the struggling managers and improve negotiation and conflict resolution skills

Present your findings as a 5-7 pages (body of paper) formatted in APA style.

Submitting your assignment in APA format means, at a minimum, you will need the following:

  • Title page: Remember the running head and title in all capital letters.
  • Abstract: This is a summary of your paper, not an introduction. Begin writing in third-person voice.
  • Body: The body of your paper begins on the page following the title page and abstract page, and it must be double-spaced between paragraphs. The typeface should be 12-pt. Times Roman or 12-pt. Courier in regular black type. Do not use color, bold type, or italics except as required for APA level headings and references. The deliverable length of the body of your paper for this assignment is 5-7 pages. In-text academic citations to support your decisions and analysis are required. A variety of academic sources is encouraged.
  • Reference page: References that align with your in-text academic sources are listed on the final page of your paper. The references must be in APA format using appropriate spacing, hang indention, italics, and upper- and lower-case usage as appropriate for the type of resource used. Remember, the reference page is not a bibliography, but it is a further listing of the abbreviated in-text citations used in the paper. Every referenced item must have a corresponding in-text citation.

Analyze BMW Group through the nine lenses of opportunity mapping and create an opportunity map

The focus of this assignment is the application of nine lenses of opportunity to BMW Group. This paper is to assess how each of the lenses could or currently does apply and what is the relative risk—resources expended—versus potential revenue and profit. All lenses may not apply; if they do not, why? In each case, begin with the theory behind the lens followed by your application to the selected case study organization. Keep in mind the implications of sustainability:

  • The enduring nature of the opportunities.
  • How the opportunities reflect the impact of environmental concerns.
  • The last step is to create an opportunity map demonstrating the lenses, using the Sample Opportunity Map as a guide. The opportunity map plots opportunities over time (X-axis) compared to potential impact on the business (Y-axis) divided in three primary sections:
    • In the business—incremental.
    • On the business—new offering or value proposition.
    • Out of the business—redefines the business or category.
  • Additional requirements:
    • Written communication: Must be free of errors, scholarly, professional, and consistent with expectations for members of the business profession.
    • APA formatting: Your essay should be formatted according to APA (6th edition) style and formatting.
    • Length: Minimum of 2,400 words, Times New Roman, 12-point font.
    • Structure: Please include the following sections using APA headings (no abstract required):
      • Introduction.
      • Body headings as appropriate.
      • Conclusions.
    • References: A minimum of five PRJ or PJ references.

I need help with writing question

There is a national movement to remove guns from those who are deemed mentally ill. There are arguments on both sides. Can you lose your right to bear arms? When do society’s rights outweigh personal rights? We most likely all agree that the persons who have committed the 196 mass shootings this year alone have some sort of mental illness. Prepare a post regarding the research you have found on gun violence and gun control reform by June 20th. Make sure you link your sources to your comments. You must also add to or comment on at least two of your peer’s posts by June 20th.

BLUE DYE #6

-Blue Dye #6 has been banned by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA made this announcement today). Blue Dye #6 is a food coloring additive

-Scientists at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have discovered it may cause cancer in laboratory rats. More testing needs to be done, but the FDA doesn’t want to take risks

-Blue Dye #6 is mainly found in candy such as blue M&M’s, blue Starbursts, blue lollipops, and blue gumballs. Most other products use Blue Dye #4 which has been deemed safe.

-M&M Mars, the company that produces M&M’s issued a statement, attributed to CEO Peter Hammond, that says “For the safety of our customers, we will stop using Blue Dye #6 immediately. All of our candies will be made and sold without this ingredient until the FDA is sure it is safe for everybody.”

-Many people have been contacting doctors and candy companies and the FDA to find out if they’re in danger … especially people who eat a lot of candy

-The NIH spokesman, Freda Billingsly, issued this statement: “Our scientists have discovered that an inordinate number of lab rats being fed a diet high in Blue Dye #6 have tested positive for cancer. While we can’t be absolutely sure Blue Dye #6 is the cause, we do not want to take chances. We notified the FDA immediately upon making our conclusions. More studies are being held on this food coloring.”

-Blue M&M’s were added in 1995 after the M&M Mars sponsored a contest. Customers were invited to vote whether blue, pink or purple would replace tan M&M’s. Blue won.

-M&M Mars and The Wrigley Company, which produces Starbursts have announced that they are recalling all candies with Blue Dye #6, but anyone who had previously purchased a package of M&M’s or Starbursts can send them back for a replacement.

-Doctors are reporting that they’re seeing a sharp increase in people coming in to be checked for cancer

-M&M Mars has estimated it will cost $1million to replace the blue M&M’s. The Wrigley Company says costs will total about $800,000. Wrappers have to be replaced because they show pictures of blue M&M’s. Ingredient lists have to be changed. And equipment in the plants need to be replaced.

-Candy companies have not revealed what, if any, colors will replace blue.
