Now that you have completed the first part of our course, Religion in Colonial America, you are to select one of the following questions and submit a reasoned, researched, and documented answer by the end of this week.

  1. What primary factor(s) led to the establishment of religion in America?
  2. What influence, if any, did Native American religions have upon the religiosity of new world settlers?
  3. What changes occured in Puritan religion as a result of the pilgrim immigration from Europe to North America?

Research Paper Using Word

This assignment has two goals:1) have students increase their understanding of the concept of Protecting Personal Information (PPI) and other ethical issues related to the use of information technology through research, and 2) learn to correctly incorporate citations and references in APA format. Students may use the tools and techniques within Word to format the research paper, including use of the References and citation tools. These skills will be valuable throughout a student’s academic career.The paper will require a title page, NO abstract, three to four full pages of content with incorporation of a minimum of 3 external resources from credible sources and a Works Cited/References page.Wikipedia and similar general information sites, blogs or discussion groups are not considered creditable sources for a research project.No more than 10% of the paper may be in the form of a direct citation from an external source.

If there is another topic that addresses ethical issues as related to information technology that is of special interest to you but one that is not in the list above, request permission from your instructor before selecting this alternate topic.

Writing Quality for the Research Paper

* All Grammar, Verb Tenses, Pronouns, Spelling, Punctuation, and Writing Competency should be without error.

* Be particularly careful about mis-matching a noun and pronoun. For example, if you say “A person does this…” then do not use “their” or “they” when referring to that person. “Person” is singular; “their” or “they” is plural.

* Remember: there is not their, your is not you’re, its is not it’s, too is not to or two, site is not cite, and who should be used after an individual, not that. For example, “the person WHO made the speech” not “the person THAT made the speech.”

*In a professional paper one does not use contractions (doesn’t, don’t, etc.) and one does not use the personal I, you or your. Use the impersonal as in the previous sentence. It is more business-like to say “In a professional paper one should not use contractions,” rather than saying, “In a professional paper you don’t use contractions.”

*Remember: spell-check, then proofread. Better yet, have a friend or colleague read it before submitting it. Read it out loud to yourself. Read it as if you are submitting it to your boss.

Overview

On the streets of any large city, you will find vendors selling knockoffs of expensive brands, from watches to handbags. Most people who pick up a bargain from a street vendor know that the “brand-name” product they’re buying is not the real thing. However, many consumers are unaware that some of the products they buy—including DVDs—are actually pirated. Piracy and counterfeit are issues with enormous legal, economic and human consequences.

Directions

For this Project, you will research the issues of counterfeit and piracy and write an argumentative essay that incorporates information from at least three different sources. In preparation for your essay:

  1. review the concepts of counterfeit, piracy, intellectual property, licensing, trademark and copyright. Make sure you understand the types of products that are most commonly counterfeited and pirated, and why. Think about the consequences of counterfeit and piracy and the people who are affected.
  2. choose one of these three topics to explore:
    • Software and/or media (CDs, DVDs)
    • Fashion and luxury goods
    • Pharmaceuticals

Next, write an argumentative essay about counterfeit and piracy. In your essay, be sure to:

Be sure in future work to give additional information in your answers. While this is done well, and organized very nicely-it could use a bit more detail and depth. Overall, nice work. It is also very important to have a more solid conclusion that wraps up your paper. She also told me to make sure I look at the grading criteria as well.

It is about acting on that awareness to change the way one does things. Once you are aware, you gain control over future learning situations.

Reflection as a form of metacognition or “thinking about “thinking” enables you to evaluate your experience, learn from your mistakes, repeat your successes, revise, and plan.
