Current Issue Critical Thinking

Read the following excerpt from “Understanding digital kids (DKs): Technology & learning in the new digital landscape,” (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. an article regarding learning today:

Recently, there were two recent cover stories in Time Magazine: Their conclusion was that children today are different. In fact, based on what we now know from the neurosciences and psychological sciences, what we’re now beginning to understand is that children today are FUNDAMENTALLY different than we are in the way they think, in the way they access, absorb, interpret, process and use information, and in the way they view, interact, and communicate in the modern world because of their experiences with digital technologies. If this is the case, it holds profound implications for all of us personally and professionally (Jukes, 2008, p. 14).

Reflect on this selection and respond to the following questions:

  • What are your thoughts on this statement?
  • Do you feel today’s learner has a different way of learning than in the past? Defend your position.
  • In your future role, how will you use this information?
  • What implications does this have for your future role?

Focus on a Topic, English homework help

You are probably wondering what you should write about. Have no fear. In this lesson, you will choose your topic for your research paper, but you will get some help. This lesson has a list of six possible topics. All topic choices are about the work of British writers who are included in this course. Each topic includes a research question. The research question is the central issue that you will answer in your paper.

The writer of the Model Research Paper chose her topic from a list that she was given. You’ll use the same process to choose your topic. First, you’ll examine how the writer of the model chose her topic from a list of possibilities.

The writer of the Model Research Paper chose her topic from a list of six possibilities, just as you will. Her list was completely different from yours. You should not use a topic from her list.

Here is what she did:

  • First she eliminated two topics that did not interest her. It’s all right to eliminate topics that don’t interest you.
  • Then she eliminated two topics she knew little or nothing about and thought would be hard to research.
  • She had two topics left. She thought about what she knew about each topic and what she wanted to learn.
  • She read the research question for each topic and decided which one interested her more.
  • She was ready to make her decision.

As you examine the Model Research Paper writer’s list, think about which of the topics you might like or dislike. Consider why some topics appeal to you and others do not.

The writer narrowed her choice to two topics: (1) Shakespearean tragic heroes and (2) Romantic poetry as a response to the Industrial Revolution.

She chose the Romantic poetry topic, as you know. Before making her final decision, she thought about these issues:

  • The Shakespeare question seemed like a history puzzle. She was more interested in literary analysis.
  • She was more interested in poetry than in drama.
  • The connection between the Romantic poets and the Industrial Revolution interested her. She wanted to learn more about this connection.

Then she needed to choose one poet. She chose William Wordsworth after skimming an encyclopedia article about him. The article said that he was a Romantic poet who loved nature.

“Thank you, encyclopedia!” she thought.

List #1 of Topics and Questions

Here is a partial list of topics and research questions to choose from.

  1. Medieval chivalry: reality vs. myth
Research Question: What was the nobility like in Sir Thomas Malory’s time, and how was it like and unlike the noble knights he wrote about?
  2. Finding reality in Sherlock Holmes’s detective stories
Research Question: Conan Doyle’s mystery plots are not realistic, but in what ways are the cultural details in his stories real?
  3. George Orwell and the literature of colonialism
Research Question: How do Orwell’s essays express his belief that colonialism harmed both the colonized and the colonists?

List #2 of Topics and Questions

Here are more topics to choose from.

  1. Shakespeare’s sonnets
Research Question: Why are ideas of love, friendship, and marriage the subject of many Shakespearean sonnets, such as 30, 55, and 116?
Research the sonnets and explain their origins and some of theories about their topic or content.
  2. Shakespeare and the English monarchy
Research Question: In what ways did Shakespeare write his plays to please the monarchy?
  3. The authorship of Shakespeare’s plays
Research Question: Did Shakespeare write all of the plays attributed to him?

Choose Your Topic

You will find the same list of topics on the Student Guide, too. The Student Guide will take you through a process of topic choice like the one the writer of the Model Research Paper worked through. Go there now and choose a topic.

Week 1 Discussion 2

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, review this week’s readings, guidance, and announcements, including You’re Not Going to Believe What I’m About to Tell You (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. Reflect on what you found interesting, surprising, or confusing.

Here we examine cultures and how they affect the way people do what they do. Sometimes, this will mean looking more closely at our own culture to understand how the different concepts we are reading about in the textbook apply to us. Some of the ideas we are going to talk about may conflict with your own beliefs, preconceptions, and ideas. Please resist the urge to respond with your preconceived ideas! Instead, try to look at the information as an anthropologist would. Look at the information in the textbook and other required resources. Consider why the other side might believe or act as they do. You do not have to agree with them—just try to understand their perspective.

This discussion forum is an opportunity for you to explore topics that interest you, share critical insights and questions that you are working with, share your struggles and triumphs, and discuss difficulties that may have arisen this week. Your initial post should describe your experiences in the course this past week, prompting further discussion. Address at least two of the following questions:

  • Was there anything that caused you to view the world around you differently or examine a topic from a different perspective?
  • What struck you in particular as you explored the course materials this week?
  • Do you have questions that your classmates might be able to help you with? (If you have a question for the instructor, be sure to contact your instructor via email or in the Ask Your Instructor forum).
  • Review You’re Not Going to Believe What I’m About to Tell You (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and consider the material you examined for this week’s discussion. What information did you encounter this week that caused mental friction for you? Why do you think it caused mental friction? Were you able to overcome the backfire effect?

Module 4: Module 4 – M4 Assignment 1 Discussion, English Homework Help

Assignment 1: Discussion—Standard vs. Nonstandard English

Your writing for this course should be professional in tone and you should follow the rules of standard English. This is also true for most of the writing you will do in school and in your professional life.

To complete this assignment, do each of the following:

  1. From the Multimedia Library in your left-navigation, review the following:
    • “W4 Usage and Style”—>”Topic W4.1: Standard and Nonstandard English,”

If you have not yet read or listened to the Standard and Nonstandard English Overview, you must do that first. (Attached below)

  2. Write three or four sentences to your best friend describing your greatest success (Attached below). Write as if you were sending an e-mail or posting to Facebook just after this event occurred.
  3. Then, write three or four sentences as if you were responding to the question, “What was your greatest success?” on a job application. Consider that you are trying to make a professional first impression on the potential employer.
  4. Compare the verb choices you made in the two descriptions.
    • Are they the same or different?
    • Did you find yourself “writing for success” for the potential employer? How?

Paragraph 3- Long paragraph

Please write a long Paragraph answering to this discussion below with your opinion. Please include citations and references in alphabetical order in case of another source.

According to Stanhope & Lancaster (2010), community is defined as people and the relationships that form as they grow in their surroundings. Community could be small or large group of people with the same common interest or values. Healthy community can be defined as a group or association that has a focus on specific goal. Examples of healthy community are churches, nursing homes, civic groups, newspaper, police stations, library, outreach programs and neighborhood centers. Nursing communities can be same but different. We all have the same goal that is to improve patient outcomes but different areas of focus for the patient. I belong to a local chapter nursing organization; American Nephrology Nursing Association (ANNA) is a community of nephrology nurses from all over Houston. ANNA, we come together and have meetings to discuss issues regarding our dialysis patients.

According to (Centeio et al., 2018), in the United States, reducing childhood obesity is a problem in elementary schools. If children are obese when they are younger it can lead to developing other diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer when they are older. Encouraging the children to exercise by providing different activities to promote an active lifestyle. Some forms of exercise during school are having fun activities in recess, encouraging students to participate in school sports, Physical Education classes and provide health education. Some ways to encourage a healthy community is actively educating the students and parents of the importance of exercise and problems regarding obesity. At home or neighborhood, parents can take their children for a walk or ride bikes to encourage exercise. Parents have to be actively involved in the care of children to promote a healthy community.

Process Costing

Option #1: Process Costing

You Got Yogurt, Inc. manufactures yogurt that goes through three processing stages prior to completion. Information on work in the first department, flavor identification and blending, is given below for November:

Data on Production:
Pounds in process at November 1; materials 100% complete; conversion 70% complete 3,525
Pounds started into production during November 75,000
Pounds completed and transferred out ?
Pounds in process, November 30; materials 85% complete; conversion 40% complete 6,100
Data on Costs:
Work in process inventory, November 1: Materials cost $1,800
Conversion cost $3,700
Cost added during November: Materials cost $121,000
Conversion cost $147,700

The company uses the weighted-average method.

Submit your assignment as an Excel spreadsheet document, clearly organized, with each tab or section labeled by item number that demonstrates the following:

  1. Compute the equivalent units of production.
  2. Compute the costs per equivalent unit for the month.
  3. Determine the cost of ending work in process inventory and of the units transferred out to the next department.
  4. Prepare a cost reconciliation schedule for the month. Below the schedule, comment on what the cost reconciliation schedule tells us about the company’s costs.

Responses should be in complete sentences utilizing proper grammar. Your paper must be formatted according to CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements (Links to an external site.). Reference Lynda.com in the CSU-Global Library (Links to an external site.) for Microsoft Excel tutorials or use the Excel Tutorials link found in the classroom if assistance is needed.

3 page Assignment. Social programs.

Assignment Overview

An effective way to learn how to evaluate social programs or policies is to focus on a social problem of interest to you and then proceed as Chambers and Bonk do, by engaging in the following:

  • Understand the epistemological boundaries of the problem definition.
  • Recognize the origins of the problem and its causes and consequences.
  • Comprehend who is impacted by this problem, both negatively and positively.
  • Recognize what those gains or losses look like and their magnitudes.

Additionally, Chambers and Bonk (2013) suggest that you must understand the historical and judicial contexts of the problem (p. 185). Once these elements are clarified, you can identify a specific program or policy designed to address the identified social problem.

By successfully completing this assignment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following competencies and behaviors:

  • Competency 5: Engage in Policy Practice.
    • C5.GP.C: Apply critical thinking to analyze, formulate, and advocate for policies that advance human rights and social, economic, and environmental justice.
      • Related Assignment Criteria:
        • 2. Describe a program or policy designed to address a given social problem.

Assignment Description

Just as Chambers and Bonk (2013) have done in the final chapter of their text, you, as a social program and policy learner, can apply the evaluation criteria discussed in the course to a social program or policy of your choice. In this assessment, you will apply the following elements to determine the efficiency and effectiveness of the program selected:

  • Program goals and objectives.
  • Eligibility rules.
  • The form of the benefit.
  • How services are delivered.
  • How the program is financed.

It is also important to assess the quality and quantity of the interactions between these elements as well as those between this program or policy and others (Chambers & Bonk, 2013, p. 185).

Assignment Instructions

For this assignment, complete the following:

  • Explain a chosen social problem. In your description, include:
    • Ideological or value parameters.
    • Origins, causes, and consequences of problem.
    • The specific groups or population impacted by the problem.
    • The impacts and their magnitudes.
    • The historical and judicial contexts of the problem.
  • Select a group that experiences the chosen social problem. This group can be distinguished by race, religion, socioeconomic status, gender orientation, or other characteristics.
  • Describe a program or policy designed to address the selected social problem. When selecting a program, choose a small program or internal policy that is manageable, and whose description and mission statement are concise enough to fit on one to two pages.
    • Include the following components in your description of the program: mission statement or goals, and objectives; eligibility rules; form of benefit; administration; service delivery; and financing.
  • Analyze interactions between these elements within the program itself.
  • Compare and contrast this program’s eligibility requirements with those of a similar program.
  • Explain at least one recommendation to improve the quality of the program you have selected.

Strategic Entrepreneurship

Part 1:

From the e-Activity, evaluate the lessons learned in this chapter to determine which single lesson would be most beneficial to the company you researched. Provide specific examples to support your response.

Part 2:

From the e-Activity, identify one firm that you think would make a good strategic partner for the company you researched. Provide specific examples of why you think this firm would be a good partner.

This is not a paper it is a discussion post. Two paragraph minimum. I do not have the case study but I have a post of someone explaining their thoughts. Please see below:

Example Post:

•From the e-Activity, evaluate the lessons learned in this chapter to determine which single lesson would be most beneficial to the company you researched. Provide specific examples to support your response.

When a company fails to innovate it is destined for failure. Innovation comes from the R&D efforts that can create competitive advantage for a firm distinguishing it from competitors. Innovation is the way of the world as it drives companies to invent new products, it opens doors to markets not previously explored, and it allows them to become market leaders. Unfortunately, Blockbuster failed to innovate with technology as consumers were following the new trend of watching movies online. After Redbox came into the industry making it so simple and inexpensive for customers to rent movies, the fad of going to Blockbuster started to die down. Not only were customers tired of paying late fees, consumers realized there were better ways to watching movies. When Netflix came into the industry it was over for Blockbuster. Netflix kept it simple; you can subscribe to their service for a flat monthly fee without any late fees and you can watch an unlimited amount of movies. Blockbuster should have followed the trend of online memberships for movies and left their brick and mortar stores in the past.

•From the e-Activity, identify one firm that you think would make a good strategic partner for the company you researched. Provide specific examples of why you think this firm would be a good partner.

Blockbuster tried following the steps of Redbox by placing movie kiosks in different locations, but the move did not work and they eventually ceased operations in 2013. A good strategic partner for Blockbuster could have been Netflix. Blockbuster could have partnered with Netflix to better their services and come up with a business plan to help the firm go from DVD rentals to online-streaming. Blockbuster could have followed the same steps Netflix flowed to go from a small DVD mailing service company to the mega corporation they are today.

According to this article, Blockbuster once had the opportunity to acquire Netflix but they passed thinking they were a small niche company…..big mistake!
