Mary Jane went shopping on Tuesday night with her brother and sister from 7 to 9 p.m. She happened to be shopping in the same shopping center that had a burglary at 8 p.m. Tuesday night. The next day, while sitting in class, juvenile officers came and detained her for the burglary. They took her to a juvenile detention center and screened her for any prior illegal activity. Mary Jane had never been in trouble previously, so they let her go home with her parents with a notation of the time to come to juvenile court. Mary Jane insists that she had no part in the burglary.

you will draft a narrative that shares your personal experience. Choose a a forty-eight hour period and do not engage in any social media actvity. Depending upon your habits, we will define social media to include at least the following:

You may also ban video games and/or any instant messaging if you would like. The trick is to make it as difficult as possible for yourself, so you have more to write about.

For even more fun, don’t tell anyone you’re doing it. Act normal. Then, reflect on your experience. What was the most difficult part of the day? Why? What was easiest? Why? What was the most difficult platform to avoid? Why do you think the project was so difficult? How did your friends or relatives respond to your behavior?

If you don’t make it the full forty-eight hours, you can still complete the assignment. Simply reflect on the reasons you could not make it the entire time, and most important, at least try. The assignment will be much easier for you if you try and fail than if your try to lie your way through it.

The draft should follow the standard format for an academic paper—an introduction that includes an opening and a thesis sentence, body paragraphs that support, clarify and extend the thesis through well-chosen details, and a conclusion that serves to wrap-up the draft. The thesis sentence should introduce the experience (the forty-eight hour period) and the overall impression with which you want to leave the audience. The final draft should be between 750 and 1,000 words.
