Introduction:Ethics is typically subtly embedded in various business decisions that you may encounter on the job. Being able to make the right decision in line with personal and company ethics is a critical skill and one that can impact the legal liability of a company as well. In this Assignment you will read a scenario and then apply an ethical approach to addressing a business problem.

Scenario:In your small business as a clothing distributor, you often source products from other countries where cotton is produced. Recently, you received an email from an international labor group alleging that some of the local middlemen you use to purchase cotton are unfairly compensating the small cotton growers for their crops. The labor group asks that your company only purchase “Fairtrade” certified cotton so that you have assurance that the farmers with smaller operations will receive fair market value for their crops.

Members of your management staff are concerned that fairtradecotton is often more expensive, which could increase your overall production costs. However, you also must take into account your long-standing relationships with the local middlemen in the cotton market as they are often able to access cotton crops that other buyers cannot.

Apple, Inc. is one of the most successful companies in the United States, yet in recent years it has been strongly criticized for its treatment of Chinese factory workers who assemble their products. Read this article, The Two Faces of Apple, published by  the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs, for an overview of the criticism of Apple’s business conduct. Health promotion and illness prevention based education can be defined as the process
of providing teaching to patients regarding their health conditions in other to
promote good health. In health care system , nurses are faced with some challenges
in their practice which most of the times affect the process of rendering teaching
to promote health of patients, with this difficult challenges, learning styles
varies from patient to patient and before initiating any health teaching, the
nurse needs to consider the following factors age, sex, language, cultural
beliefs and family values, from the studied articles, it stated that “as
important as it is to be alert for cultural differences, it is also important
to avoid stereotyping, if a patient is wearing an unusual costume, is speaking
another language, or is much older or younger than the nurse, cultural
differences may be expected, but it would be wise to check (ie send a message
and wait for feedback) before acting on this assumption”. For effective health
education, the nurse will needs to create a trusting environment, and for this
to be accomplished, there needs to be assessment of the patient , know the
patient likes, and dislikes, what the patient is comfortable with when it comes

 Healthcare providers overcome differing points
of view regarding health promotion and disease prevention with this example: 

 72 year old female was brought from home to the emergency room with active bleeding,
according to the information obtained from daughter, she stated that patient
came from west Africa 5 days ago, religion Jehovah witness, doesn’t speak or
understand English, after all blood  and diagnostic test , the patient was diagnosed with cervical cancer with
hemoglobin of 5.7. In this scenario, the healthcare team needs to consider 3
things for effective healing and promotion of health. Language line or
interpreter should be made available for patient for effective communication
throughout hospital stay. Secondly, hemoglobin of 5.7 the family and patient
needs to be educated on alternate means of building up the blood with
nutritionist and some medication. Thirdly ,the patient will need all support
she will get from loved ones, priest, support groups from the community with
the help of social worker.

  In conclusion, as nurses we need to understand that treatment of the same disease condition may be similar
medically, but will differ when it comes to beliefs and family values, that each
patient has a specific needs which maybe spiritual or physical, and all needs
to be considered during health promotion and illness prevention.
