Unit Lesson
Creative thinking is about the process used when coming to decisions and solving problems, not about artistic ability. This unit asks you to consider the different ways that creativity plays a role in making decisions, solving problems, and critical thinking. Imagination and curiosity are both creative

components of critical thinking, the components that allow us to “think outside the box” and generate multiple options.
There are things that get in the way of creativity and inhibit or restrict the ability to imagine. This unit also asks you to understand those dynamics and confront them within yourself, turning what the textbook calls the paralyzing “Voice of Criticism” into a constructive, supportive critic.

Religion and Criminal
Justice

After
reading this week’s text that pertains to divine command theory and moderate
divine command theory I believe the difference between the two is how much a
person relies on divine command theory. An example of absolute divine command
theory would be some Islamic societies in the Middle East who practice a strict
law directly out of their holy book the Koran. And a moderate example of divine
command would be far less traditional Islamic communities that recognize
western influences.

When it
comes to religion influencing the making of laws we can look at the history of
the world. Some can argue that the United States has laws that are derived from
the Ten Commandments. However we live in a free country and the constitution
protects us citizens from religious prosecution and religion being forced upon
us all. So when it comes to religion influencing laws I would say it never
should, however morality and ethics a reasonable person maintains shares a
close resemblance to relegation.

To use
religion as a way to rehabilitate is a move in the right direction for example
introducing a non-believer who is an addict to religion and teaching them to
use religion to help them in their struggle, I would argue there is no ethical
reason why not to. To use religion to rehabilitate by striping that person of
their own free will and is in my opinion un-ethical. An example of this would
be in the early 1900’s Irish family would sent their “problem citizen” to work
in this religious type boarding prison in hopes they could work their way in to
heaven by paying off their sins though work for the church.

He seems devastated by this news and tells you that he doesn’t know whether or not to tell his fiancee. Consider the implications that this situation suggests.
  2. Your aunt, with whom you feel very close, tells you that she just had a mammogram that showed a dense area in the right breast and that her physician wants to do a breast biopsy. She asks you what that means and whether she should be concerned. Based on what you have learned, consider what you can and should explain to her.

Assignment Details

Based on your work in Units 1 and 2, create a detailed sentence outline for your research paper.

Your outline should include the following:

Thesis statement: Because you are writing an argument or persuasive paper, your thesis must state a clear stance on the topic that you have selected. The thesis should be written in the third person and not be more than one sentence long. This thesis does not have to be the same as your thesis in the Unit 1 Individual Project. Your new thesis will most likely reflect the research and reflection that you have done since then. You may have even changed your initial stance.

Main points or claims: You should include at least 3 main points or claims to support your thesis. These main points should be complete sentences that are phrased entirely in your own words. The main points represent a synthesis of your research on the topic: source readings, discussion with others, and personal reflection combined to produce your thesis. These are not necessarily the same main points that you used in your Unit 1 IP. Because you have researched this topic, you may have gained additional insights, evidence, and arguments that will be reflected in this new thesis and main points.

Notations of source usage: Beneath each main point, you should indicate how information from sources may be used to support each point. Because you have not yet written the paper, you do not know for sure how you will use the information from your sources. You are still in the planning stage; however, at this stage, you should be able to indicate with some accuracy how source material will help you develop your main points. Be sure to provide in-text citations.

APA reference list: Provide an alphabetized list of the sources that you plan to use to support your main points. These do not have to be the same sources that you listed in the Unit 2 IP. Each of the sources should be listed as a reference citation in correct APA style. This list should have the word “References” in boldface at the top.

  • D. Response to Tiffany Response to Monica (150 word minimum with peer reviewed reference to support your answer)
  • Hello Instructor Morell and class:

Chapter 2 of this week’s reading states, “To Freud, the first 4 or 5 years of life, or the infantile stage, are the most crucial for personality formation. Freud (1917/1963) divided the infantile stage into three phases according to which of the three primary erogenous zones is undergoing the most salient development. The oral phase begins first and is followed in order by the anal phase and the phallic phase. The three infantile stages overlap with one another and each continues after the onset of later stages” (Feist, Feist, & Roberts, 2013, p. 41). Therefore, I do agree with Freud’s belief in which he explains aspects of personality development during the three phases of the infantile stage (Feist, Feist, & Roberts,  2013). Through his personality theory, “Freud believed that, from the 4th or 5th year until puberty, both boys and girls usually, but not always, go through a period of dormant psychosexual development. This latency stage is brought about partly by parents’ attempts to punish or discourage sexual activity in their young children. If parental suppression is successful, children will repress their sexual drive and direct their psychic energy toward school, friendships, hobbies, and other nonsexual activities” (Feist, Feist, & Roberts, 2013, p. 47).
