Communication Theory, assignment help

These questions go a step beyond the theory application, by asking you to think about the theory used in the question. It might ask you to consider how it could be expanded, its validity, or its application to another theory. These questions might specify particular components of a theory to consider rather than the theory as a whole. Again one good paragraph ( About 10 sentences). The questions are application questions or questions that ask you to provide your own argument about how the theory should be considered. The answers should be your own work. You certainly shouldn’t be providing entire phrases and sentences from outside sources and representing them as your own when answering the question. You have to answer the question, and don’t write abstractly or write like you’re quoting definitions.

1. Considering Speech Codes theory, do you agree that we tend to stick to our culturally-subscribed speech code or do you think we adapt to/accommodate others? Going further, how might the choice to accommodate or diverge from your speech code be a violation of a cultural expectation (think Expectancy Violations Theory from unit 1)?

2. Tannen discusses the impact that gender has on our communication. Do cultural factors complicate Tannen’s findings? In other words, would the interaction of culture with gender potentially challenge any of Tannen’s conclusions? What about power or authority? Does the authority or power one holds potentially challenge any of Tannen’s conclusions? Why or why not?

Primary source collection and analysis

The first step in any research project, once you’ve defined your topic and question, is to identify and locate primary sources. Primary sources are the evidence, the data, you need to make your argument; they are what will drive your narrative. So making sure you can identify, locate, and access primary sources is critical – and you need to figure this out early on. If you have to reframe or rethink your topic/question because you can’t find the types of primary sources you need, you want to find out sooner rather than later. For the purposes of this class, “sooner” is now.

This assignment asks you to compile an inventory, a list, of primary source collections and sources that you plan to use. Please keep in mind that a satisfactory chapter must include a minimum of 20 primary sources coming from a minimum of 3 distinct primary source collections. Excellent chapters will include many more.

Try your best to make sure you identify distinct and different types of collections that, taken together, will give you a range of different types of sources to work from.

Manuscript collections (online or in Special Collections)

Oral History collections (print collections, databases, etc.)

Historical newspapers

Historical magazines

Published sources (document collections, memoirs, books on your topic written at the time being studied)

Film and Video footage

Visual images (photographs, art, posters)

Music

Any other databases, websites, or online archives

Use the attached worksheetPreview the document as a template or guide. Make sure to start with your name, research topic, research question, and keywords and search terms used. Then list and briefly describe each of the distinct primary source collections (at least 3, but can be more) you’ve identified. For each collection, please list the specific primary sources you’ve located (remember, you have to have a minimum of 20 total sources), and then discuss how you think these sources will help you answer your research question.

Succession Planning

Succession Planning

This week, you will evaluate the impact of the new CEO on the organization, including cultural issues, leadership issues, and performance models

  • Begin by analyzing the processes (e.g., executive coaching, storyboarding, work agreements, project management) you will use with the CEO to ensure that your succession plan will work and that the new CEO has the best chance to succeed
  • Continue your paper by assessing the impact the new CEO will have on the organization, its employees, and its culture. Be sure to consider the leadership attributes and cultural issues you identified in previous work on the project.
    • How will the changing of the guard affect organizational or office politics?
    • How might the leadership succession change the lines of authority in the formal organization?
    • How might the leadership succession change networking and influence in the informal organization?
    • How will the leadership succession impact teams and team performance?
  • Evaluate how the organization will need to restructure its performance model(s) to reflect the leadership style and competencies of the new CEO. Be sure to consider some of the material studied previously in Week 5.
  • Discuss how you will mitigate resistance to change, particularly among organizational groups that are fiercely loyal to the current CEO.
  • Finally, identify and analyze various metrics, such as 360degree feedback, employee surveys, focus groups, and performance reports that you will use to evaluate the efficacy of your succession plan. Select the metrics you believe will be the most effective and describe their implementation and evaluation.
    • What information will be necessary to measure the success of your plan?
    • How will you gather this information?
    • What will you do with this information to contribute to the continuous improvement of the new CEO and the organization?

Competencies Addressed in This Assignment

  • Competency 1: Assess the phenomenon of school violence.
  • Competency 2: Explore offender-related communications relative to school violence pre-event, during the event, and post-event.
  • Competency 3: Characterize contagion of violence.
  • Competency 4: Explain the use of threat assessment in pre- through post-secondary education.
  • Competency 5: Communicate effectively in writing.

In this assignment, the criteria in your Connect Your Learning Scoring Guide are directly aligned to Competencies 1–5 for the course.

Introduction

Throughout the class, you have examined fact-based research on the history and phenomena surrounding mass violence and mass murder on educational campuses, contagion of violence, the symbiotic relationship surrounding mass media and these violent incidences, and theories surrounding the understanding of these events by threat assessment professionals. As you prepare for a career in criminal justice, you should have a basic understanding of the impact campus-related violence has on student and educator populations, their communities, and the nation as a whole, so you are better prepared to assist those you serve. Using your research of historical cases and their impact, as well as relevant data that you have used during the course, complete your final assignment.

Instructions

Prepare a 4–6-page paper (1–1.5 pages per competency for Competencies 1 through 4), focused on the course competencies and address two key areas of learning for each competency. Competency 5 will be showcased through your coverage of Competencies 1–4. This paper should showcase your learning proficiency and describe the importance of your learning relative to application in a career context. This assignment should be placed in your ePortfolio for future reference, and to demonstrate your learning connections for future employment purposes.

Be sure to review the Connecting Your Learning Scoring Guide to ensure you understand the criteria for this assignment.

Requirements

Your paper should meet the following requirements:

  • Written communication: Must be free of errors that detract from the overall message.
  • References: One reference per competency.
  • APA format: Format resources and citations as per current APA style and formatting guidelines.
  • Length of paper: 4–6 pages, not including the title page and the references page.
  • Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.

Improvement Plan Tool Kit

Scenario

For this assessment, consider taking one of these two approaches:

  1. Build on the work done in your first three assessments and create an online tool kit or resource repository that will help the audience of your in-service understand the research behind your safety improvement plan and put the plan into action.
  2. Locate a safety improvement plan through an external resource (your current organization, Institution for Healthcare Improvement, or publicly available safety improve initiative) and create an online tool kit or resource repository that will help an audience understand the research behind the safety improvement plan and how to put the plan into action.

Preparation

Google Sites is recommended for this assessment; the tools are free to use and should offer you a blend of flexibility and simplicity as you create your online tool kit. Please note that this requires a Google account; use your Gmail or GoogleDocs login, or create an account following the directions under the “Create Account” menu.

Refer to the following links to help you get started with Google Sites:

Instructions

Using Google Sites, assemble an online resource tool kit containing at least 12 annotated resources that you consider critical to the success of your safety improvement initiative. These resources should enable nurses and others to implement and maintain the safety improvement you have developed.

It is recommended that you focus on the 3 or 4 most critical categories or themes with respect to your safety improvement initiative. For example, if your initiative concerns improving workplace safety for practitioners, you might choose broad themes such as general organizational safety and quality best practices; environmental safety and quality risks; individual strategies to improve personal and team safety; and process best practices for reporting and improving environmental safety issues.

Following the recommended scheme, you would collect 3 resources on average for each of the 4 categories. Each resource listing should include the following:

  • An APA-formatted citation of the resource with a working link.
  • A description of the information, skills, or tools provided by the resource.
  • A brief explanation of how the resource can help nurses better understand or implement the safety improvement initiative.
  • A description of how nurses can use this resource and when its use may be appropriate.

Here is an example entry:

  • Merret, A., Thomas, P., Stephens, A., Moghabghab, R., & Gruneir, M. (2011). A collaborative approach to fall prevention. Canadian Nurse, 107(8), 24–29. Retrieved from www.canadian-nurse.com/articles/issues/2011/octobe…
    • This article presents the Geriatric Emergency Management-Falls Intervention Team (GEM-FIT) project. It shows how a collaborative nurse lead project can be implemented and used to improve collaboration and interdisciplinary teamwork, as well as improve the delivery of health care services. This resource is likely more useful to nurses as a resource for strategies and models for assembling and participating in an interdisciplinary team than for specific fall-prevention strategies. It is suggested that this resource be reviewed prior to creating an interdisciplinary team for a collaborative project in a health care setting.

Additionally, be sure that your plan addresses the following, which corresponds to the grading criteria in the scoring guide. Please study the scoring guide carefully so you understand what is needed for a distinguished score.

  • Identify necessary resources to support the implementation and continued sustainability of a safety improvement initiative.
  • Analyze the usefulness of resources to the role group responsible for implementing quality and safety improvements.
  • Analyze the value of resources to reduce patient safety risk.
  • Present compelling reasons and relevant situations for use of resource tool kit by its target audience.
  • Communicate in a clear, logically structured, and professional manner that applies current APA style and formatting.

To submit your online tool kit assessment, paste the link to your Google Site in the assessment submission box.

Accounting Project (Topic: Footlocker)

Business Report

One to two full in pages in length: single spaced; 12 pt. font. One Inch margins. In your own words.
If you create any small charts they will count for page space. Goal: tell the story of your company in the parameters described below.

Each of the five projects requires you to map out your message, for your supervisor, illustrating your mastery of concepts from our course as they relate to your SEC 10-K Company. Consider this as your employer. As a starting point, for project one:

  1. What products does your company make and sell?
  2. Do they manufacture their products or purchase from others?
  3. Are sales increasing or decreasing? How does this relate to changes in inventory and accounts receivable?

What issues might your company experience related to risk? Search the PDF version of the SEC 10-K for your company for the word risk.

Consider the costs on the income statement. What are the line items? Consider how these relate to the operations of the company. Are they increasing with sales or other changes?

Overall your goal for Project One is to begin to read the Management and Analysis and introductory pages of your SEC 10-K to learn more about your company and the information they reveal. You might also consider the concept of competitive advantage as the company balances the disclosure of required financial information for compliance with good business practices.

Your project is about accounting, using only the SEC 10-K as your source document. Write in your own words but use the resources of our ACCT 301 classroom to place your story in an accounting text.

Reading the SEC 10-K might reveal other companies and brands your company controls, locations where they operate, and other big picture business perspectives.

Marketing Management

Provide a reflection of at least 500 words (or 2 pages double spaced) of how the knowledge, skills, or
theories of this course have been applied, or could be applied, in a practical manner to your current
work environment. If you are not currently working, share times when you have or could observe these
theories and knowledge could be applied to an employment opportunity in your field of study.

Use of proper APA formatting and citations. If supporting evidence from outside resources is used those
must be properly cited.
Share a personal connection that identifies specific knowledge and theories from this course.
Demonstrate a connection to your current work environment. If you are not employed, demonstrate a
connection to your desired work environment.

comprehensive literature review

Purpose:

For this Assignment, you will construct a comprehensive literature review and identify the theoretical foundation or framework for the DNP Project. This is Section II of your DNP Project proposal. Submit a document that includes:

  1. a description of the conceptual or theoretical framework for your Project;
  2. the rationale for why this theory or model is an appropriate choice for your Project;
  3. a description of how the theoretical model sets the foundation for your unique DNP Project; and
  4. A comprehensive literature review that supports your project.

The content for the theoretical foundation or framework for the Project should include:

  • Appraisal of relevant evidence
  • Review and critique of relevant theory-based literature

Before you construct your literature review, review these scholarly writing resources in the Writing Center:

  • Web Research Guidelines
  • Online Research Resources
  • Research Writing II: Finding and Evaluating Resources Research Sources for Credibility
  • Writing a Literature Review

Follow these steps to gather relevant, valid literature for your DNP Project proposal literature review. Note you must document your search strategies and summaries of literature selected.

  1. Based on the problem statement you developed, devise a search strategy (i.e., select databases, identify keywords, etc.).
  2. Search for, identify, and retrieve source materials to support your inquiry (minimum of 10 sources; you may want to begin your search in the Cochrane Library database, available through the Library).
  3. Document your search decisions and actions in detail. This will be an important document for the dissemination of the results and recommendations of your completed DNP Project.
  4. Critique and evaluate the studies by comparing and contrasting studies and identifying key concepts in each.
  5. After your literature review, based on what you have found so far, think about what your next steps are. For example, what do you still need to find out about the topic? What did you learn about this topic so far? Identify any new databases, references, or leads you plan to use next.

Grading rubric attached and the work Ive been working on so you can integrate the framework with this work.

Audio Recording: please review this students business idea and give your opinions about it

A student named Nate Dowdy created this business plan on powerpoint.

Create a 5 to 10 minute audio recording of yourself critiquing this business plan. You should give both pros and cons. Give your opinions on what you think about his ideas. State positives about what you like about this business idea. Also give recommendations on what you would do differently.

I am the professor of this class, so I need you to give this student Nate Dowdy a lot of feedback to help him for the future. I am on vacation so I do not have time for this. I really need you to find his strengths and weaknesses.

If you were doing a project like this, would you make an idea like this? Why or why no? If no, what makes this product more inefficient compared to some other products?

Make sure that when you review his assignment you are making an AUDIO RECORDING. 5 to 10 minutes long. My student is aware I have some random people who will critique him.

His assignment is attached below.

Critical Commentaries

For this course, students are required to write three critical commentaries. Commentary #1 is due online by 9 am on January 30th. This commentary should explore topics in the readings assigned through January 30th.

The aim of each paper is comparative inquiry and analysis, not
mere description. The emphasis is on reasoning and critical thinking.
It is not enough simply to recapitulate what each reading has to say
about a given theme. You must compare and contrast what they
have to say about a topic of your own choosing. To do this, you must
evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the types of analysis and
theories presented, and offer some conclusion of your own. Thus, each
paper should include the following:

  • A clear, persuasive
introduction with an explicit thesis statement and a roadmap to tell me
where and what you will try to demonstrate in the paper.
  • A very
brief summary or literature review of the selected readings for the
paper, with an emphasis on key arguments, type of analysis and
conclusions found in each work. Avoid summarizing details. Stick to the
    main points.
  • A brief summary of the theme to be discussed in
your paper. What are the issues involved and why are they important?
What do we learn from each paper?
  • A comparative inquiry and
analysis of what the readings have to say about the theme. What do we
learn from these discussions? How does the chosen analysis advance or
weaken the key arguments? Which cultural or political perspectives are
at play? What remains to be learned?

Important Notes:

  • Papers are due online on before the start of class (9:00 am). Late papers will be accepted by email for up to 48 hours, but will receive a deduction for tardiness.
  • Each of the three papers should be 5 pages double-spaced with normal 1” margins and 12 pt., Times New Roman font.
  • All papers must be in APA style and include in-text citations and a full bibliography.
  • In
grading your commentaries, I will evaluate the ideas you present, how
you link your ideas to course materials and how well the paper is
organized and executed. A rubric is available on Canvas for further
    information.
