Visual Sociology Project, Assingment Homework help

The purpose of this assignment is to atempt to extract sociology from pictures. One form of qualitative data analysis is called “photovoice.” Here, we are using the old phrase, “a picture speaks a thousand words” but you are examining photos from a sociological standpoint.

Choose any 3 different concepts, theories, or themes we have discussed at any point in the semester. Then, find a photo that displays that particular concept. You can pick something specific like “the sick role” or racial profiling. Or, you can do something general like stratification, gender, or deviance. The photos you use can be ones that you have taken yourself, or images that you find online. Once you have the pictures, write short captions underneath them. These captions explain how the picture relates to the sociological concept you are discussing. PLEASE DO NOT USEMEMES! You will lose points if you include these. It is your job to caption the picture, so do not use photos where someone else has already added text over the top to convey an idea. I have included an example below to help you along your way.

The best way of submitting this assignment is to simply upload a Word document with the pictures and captions. You can easily copy and paste any pictures you have into Word and then place the text below it. This assignment is worth 10% of your final grade. It is designed as a way to help you boost your grade.

4 page essay on note taking from a reading

Read the essay “Learning How to Learn” by Glenn Altschuler in Writing, Reading, and Research on pages 113-115. Before you begin, make a plan that describes specific reading strategies you will use to read actively and engage the text. After reading the assigned essay, review your notes and write a four page essay that addresses the following:

  • Describe the reading strategies/note-taking you decided to use and explain why you made those choices.
  • Identify the meaning that you generated from the text. How did you determine this message? What clues did you use from the text? Did you use any of your own experience to develop or reflect on the meaning you interpreted?
  • Critique the experience of reading the text actively. Was it easier to develop meaning using these strategies? Why or why not? Did you have any distractions as you read? Did that make a difference?
  • Explain how you will approach reading your next reading assignment. Will you be using these strategies again, or will you try something else? What has been the most helpful information on reading strategies and note-taking that was covered in this unit?

Crime Scene Investigation

Assignment 1: Crime Scene Investigation

Due Week 3 and worth 160 points

Preliminary investigations do not necessarily yield enough information to prosecute a criminal case. Despite a thorough preliminary investigation, many cases require a follow-up investigation. Use your textbook, the Internet, and/or Strayer University Online Library (https://research.strayer.edu) to research articles within the past three years on crime scene investigation.

Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which you:

  1. Assemble a set of guidelines on conducting a preliminary investigation for a criminal case.
  2. Discuss at least one-way computer-aided investigations can be used in order to conduct an efficient follow-up investigation. Provide a rationale to support the response.
  3. Select two major crimes (e.g., human-trafficking, domestic violence, abuse of the elderly, sex-related crimes) and compare and contrast the key differences in reporting the two major crimes that you selected.
  4. Determine the four most important characteristics of an effective criminal investigator and discuss the importance of each characteristic you determined.
  5. Support or critique the argument that the criminal investigation process should maintain the balance regarding freedom of information through media outlets and privacy rights of alleged perpetrators of crime. Provide a rationale to support the response.
  6. Use at least three quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar types of websites do not qualify as academic resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • This course requires the use of new Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The format is different than other Strayer University courses. Please take a moment to review the SWS documentation for details.
  • Be typed, double-spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow SWS or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

Minimize Video

Imagine that an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP)–either from some galactic event or some malevolent enemy’s nuclear weapons–renders electronic devices useless and throws the world into chaos. You awaken from a long sleep to find that that society has broken down, and there is no government, police, law or order. For some reason a small child is holding your hand, but you cannot remember who the child is. You wander for days and at last find what appears to be an old, underground fall-out shelter. As you enter, you find a bunch of books but no computers/cell phones/electrical devices. What books would you hope to find as you contemplate the future and rebuilding your life?

Write a couple paragraphs and use your imagination.

*Something like this scenario lies behind the Greek idea of “founding” a society and the modern idea of the “State of Nature” (i.e. what life was like or would be like without government). Some of the books we will talk about this semester would be among those I would hope to find.

This is a discussion, watch video write a review, it is best not to copy, elaborate personal views. 200-300 word.

Discussion question: Does freedom of speech extend to a school newspaper?

Please open and read the above notes titled “Freedom of Speech Notes.” At the end of the slides, you will find your discussion question:

Discussion question:

Does freedom of speech extend to a school newspaper?

Read the scenario of Hazelwood School District vs. Kuhlmeier (1988) and consider the issue of free speech in this instance. Afterwards, research all facets of the issue and develop an opinion. You will be graded on the depth of thinking you show, the logical progression of ideas in your argument, and the degree to which you effectively support your opinion. You will also need to address the Essential Question, Is information power?

Financial Plan for Health Care Cuts

2 Pages

Your company’s chief financial officer (CFO) begins the preliminary work of developing the organization’s financial plan for the upcoming year. Recently, there have been media reports that your state will be cutting health care costs by reducing benefits, paying health care providers or organizations less, and tightening eligibility. Specifically, the state’s Medicaid budget will be reduced by 6 percent and fees to health providers will be reduced by 3 percent.

Revenue from Medicaid constitutes 30 percent of Krona’s annual revenue. The annual revenue for Krona last year was $20,000,000 and was expected to increase 10 percent the following year. The chief executive officer (CEO) has asked that you provide a brief summary of capitation to share with the board.

Compose a memo to the CEO that includes the following:

  • Discuss the impact that the Medicaid cuts will have on Krona’s revenue.
  • Address the possible issues surrounding next year’s forecasting.
  • Provide an explanation of capitation.
  • Discuss the challenges, benefits, and risks in utilizing capitation.

Writing Task

Choose a key point made in one of the assigned readings to discuss in an essay of at least three pages. Answer the following questions as your primary focus:

How accurate is the key point made by the writer? Why is this point accurate or inaccurate, valid or not?

You must limit your discussion to one specific point made in the assigned reading that you choose to discuss, not all of the points that the writer makes. Keep the emphasis on a main idea rather than on a minor point or detail.

Early in your essay, you will need to summarize the overall reading and, in particular, the key point that it makes that you’re going to discuss. This provides a context for discussion of the idea you choose but limits the amount of attention given to the rest of the reading.

You may use additional outside sources to help you make your points, but you are not required to do so for this essay. That is optional.

Original work please .. Make it simple

Academic Writing Tutorial Help

Your entry should be a minimum of 300 words and a maximum of 500 words .

Consider a topic for an argument you
believe is very important—so important, that you would do whatever is in your
power, or which through honing your skills could be in your power, as a writer,
to convince others of its importance. You will be writing an argument along
these lines as one of your assignments, but instead of being given a topic, you
will choose one which you firmly believe should be developed into an argument because
it matters to you.

Using the SPARK handout on brainstorming, spend some time generating ideas
related to your topic and how this topic can be developed and specified to make
a working thesis.

After doing these things, write a Journal entry reflecting on what you would
like to accomplish by writing an argument on the topic you have chosen. You are
not writing an outline or draft for the argument.

Although you will need to know what
your topic is, and although you should have generated ideas about the topic and
how to make it into an argument, the purpose of this journal entry is to suggest
what you hope your argument might make possible.

Public Program 7

The Qualitative and Mixed Methods Approach

Suppose you have been asked to review and reevaluate the findings of a quantitative, quasi-experimental, state-level study regarding the impact of the Guardian ad Litem (GAL) program in a single state. Data has been collected for 200 children over two years. One group had GALs assigned to them and the other did not. The GAL program attempts to provide a voice for abused and neglected children through the use of citizen volunteers as opposed to attorneys. GALs act as advocates for children in judicial proceedings and placement in permanent and safe homes. The study evaluated the effectiveness of the program in achieving positive outcomes for the children. These outcomes involved everything from court continuance and closures, increases in services, and adoptions and number of placements.

The study concluded that, although it did make a difference with respect to most of the outcome variables, there was no apparent effect on types of placements of the children during the study period of two years. Placements ranged from least to most restrictive such as permanent homes, foster homes, shelters, and institutions.

As a reviewer, you suspect that this finding or absence thereof might be illuminated by a different approach so you propose a qualitative evaluation design to focus on this question.

For this Discussion, review this week’s Learning Resources and consider what qualitative approach you would use and why.

Post by Day 3 a response to the following:

  • When considering using qualitative approaches for evaluating GAL situations, explain which qualitative approach you would recommending using and why. Include in your explanation supportive and credible examples of the value of your chosen approach using your readings, research and professional experience.

Respond by Day 5 to two colleagues by describing one other qualitative approach you might use to address the problem and explain why.

Assignment :Submit by Day 7 a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:

  • Assume you were to employ a mixed methods approach to your Final Project. Explain how you would integrate both qualitative and quantitative methods in your design.
  • Using the guidelines from the USAID (2013) resource, describe your formulation and explain your reasoning:
    • What qualitative method will you use?
    • How will your qualitative analysis method supplement your quantitative methods?
    • Will you use triangulation?
