Social Work Assignment: Scholar Practitioner Assignment: Addressing Co-Occurring Disorders

It is no coincidence that mental disorders and addiction often appear together because they share causative neurological roots hence, co-occurring disorders. Individuals with mental disorders often turn to mood-altering chemicals and behaviors in an attempt to self-medicate, making them more vulnerable to addiction.

The rates of co-occurring disorders are high. A differential diagnosis, or a diagnostic decision that differentiates between two similar disorders is needed to be able to differentiate between the two. As a helping professional you should be familiar with the appropriate diagnostic and treatment strategies needed to manage all aspects of these disorders.

For this Assignment, review the “SPP Treatment Plan Template” located in the resources and use this template for this Assignment.

Consider the following scenario:

Maria is a 44-year-old hearing-impaired Latina female who was admitted to the inpatient treatment facility for alcohol dependence where you are a substance abuse counselor. During her admission, Maria expressed reluctance to undergo treatment, stating that her family did not approve of counseling or psychiatric services because they see it as a sign of weakness. During her admission, she began crying hysterically. She stated that her husband left her and that her two teenage children were home alone. Maria was inebriated, under emotional distress, and ended up being carried to her assigned room by two staff members.
Your psychosocial intake assessment revealed she is also manifesting signs and symptoms of a major depressive disorder. You know that Maria needs help with her alcohol addiction, but you also know that her depression might be a cause or an effect of alcoholism.

Assignment:

Create a brief 30-day addiction treatment plan for Maria in the scenario.

Assignment 1

Notes:

The pressure on China to allow its currency to appreciate intensified recently in conjunction with the visit of China’s president, Hu Jintao, to the United States to meet with President Obama. China, which has maintained an artificially low renminbi for some time, has resisted claims that its policies give Chinese exporters an unfair competitive advantage in the global market place. While many countries have criticized China’s policies on its currency, the United States has been particularly vocal because of its large trade imbalance with the country.

The United States believes that China’s policy of keeping the renminbi at artificially low levels rather than allowing it to float according to market forces make Chinese products more attractive in foreign markets. Moreover, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton argues that U.S. companies trying to export to China are at a disadvantage because of the country’s policies. Clinton would like to see China open its markets to U.S. manufactured goods, farm and ranch products, and services. According to Clinton, changes in China’s policy toward its currency would not only benefit the United States, but would also benefit the rest of the world by contributing to more balance and predictability in the global economy and broader prosperity. U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has gone as far as to suggest that if China does not take steps to revalue its currency, it will in fact damage its relations with the rest of the world.

China however, claims that its policies on the renminbi are simply part of a larger effort to discourage hot money in order to prevent its economy from overheating. By prohibiting the open trading of its currency, China hopes to avoid increases in wages, raw materials prices, and property prices that could make its finished products more expensive in foreign markets. Yasheng Huang of the MIT Sloan School of Management defends China’s policies noting that even if China did allow its currency to rise, the U.S. would still continue to consume, and dollars would still flow out of the country. U.S. consumption would simply be funded by another country such as India. For now though, Secretary Geithner hopes to persuade China that as incomes continue to rise in China, so will the potential for inflation, which will ultimately push prices up, and make China’s goods less competitive. Economist Gen Xiao believes that if this trend continues, the question of China revaluing its currency will be a moot point anyway because eventually inflation in China will converge with a stagnating economy in the United States and the issue will be resolved.

Week 1 Training

Hey Everyone

This weeks lesson was full of great advice on how to determine the root cause of issues surrounding the workplace. It allows you to feel like you are involved in the process to correct workplace concerns and gives excellent real-world experience. As the video discusses you will need to create a needs analysis, which starts with the Organizational Gap. The Gap is the difference between the actual and expected organizational performance. Also, it is imperative to allow your employees to discuss concerns about the workplace, such as in the video you can conduct one on one interviews with employees. Addressing concerns with employees will enable the company insight into how your employees are feeling and gives them a voice that will be heard and hopefully can cause changes for the better within the company. Once this has been done, it is critical to initiate a plan to correct the issues, for this company it seems like the employees feel they need more training and development to improve sales and increase morale.

descriptive essay

For your first writing sample, describe your most prized possession—whether you still have it or not—how you got it and why you value it so much and how it is part of your identity. It must be an inanimate object—I know you love your children, pets, parents and spouses/partners/girlfriends/boyfriends—but even a dog isn’t really a possession—if you’re like me, your dog(s) own you far more than you own them. And that’s not even the half of it with cats. But I digress.

This is an argumentative assignment—you must explain why this thing—whatever it might be—is (or was) so valuable to you. You will want to think about how Angell describes the baseball and how Didion uses language to get to the heart of what she observes and values, and that what she judges as foolish or worthless, about the Las Vegas wedding industry. Both Angell and Didion are masters of the key detail—learn from them to be succinct, but precise. The essay should be descriptive—it should be clear to the reader what the object is, why you cherish it, what it looks, smells, sounds, tastes, and feels like. Who made it, and does that matter? Was it mass-produced or is it unique to you? Did you receive it as a gift, save up for it yourself, make it yourself?

For this assignment you will invent a new business

This week’s paper is required to be approximately 4 -6 pages in length, not including the title page and the reference page. No paper should be fewer than 1400 words. Double space your work, cite your sources, limit quotes, and edit your work well! Your work will automatically be reviewed by Turnitin upon submission. Please make sure you cite your work properly and avoid direct quotes.

For this assignment you will invent a new business. This is a new start – up venture, not an existing one or one that is expanding. Make up the business, the location, the client base, and the product or service. Do not use any real company. You may review a real company’s website for ideas, but the basis of this paper should be your own ideas. Your opening sentence should begin with something like this: “The new business venture that I will evaluate is ……………..” Expect that your business will be opened in this coming year, not one that opened 10 years ago. Your introduction should include a description of your company and any details that are important to the reader. The description of your company should be a couple paragraphs with a summary of the business. The other details can be discussed when you are reviewing each of the SWOT elements. The final goal of this paper is to prepare a SWOT analysis of your new venture company. Make sure you have at least two other sources (other than the text) to supplement your work.

You tube video http://youtu.be/qmgF0rqWpAw

After developing your new venture and describing it thoroughly in the beginning of your paper, provide a thorough SWOT analysis. Make sure you have included the actual SWOT analysis quad chart (embedded within your paper) listing the strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities. You can use your own chart, but your paper should include a simple SWOT chart with the four segments. Then, you must discuss each segment thoroughly and explain what you have learned from performing your analysis.

So, your paper should include a title page and a reference page (no abstract is required):

1 – a description of your new venture (have a clear introduction)

2 – include a simple quad chart with the four basic quadrants embedded in your paper

3 – a thorough explanation of what you have learned from the analysis, further defining the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats

4. be sure to include monetary information. You can’t evaluate a new start up for a beauty salon if you don’t include the costs to start up. How many hair cuts would you have to provide customers before you break even each month (of course you can estimate costs). For instance, you have to purchase equipment (dryers, chairs, etc) and you have to rent space (or buy space). What is the monthly rent or mortgage payment and how easily will that be earned each month. Include all other costs also (payroll, supplies, advertising, etc). Where will the start up money come from?

5 – an evaluation – based on what you have learned, will you continue your business venture? Be sure to answer that question at the close of your paper.

Font and Spacing – Use Times New Roman 12 pitch font with double-spaced lines.

Length – Write a 4 to 6 page essay not including the title page and citation page. Make sure you have at least 1400 words, not counting the title and reference page.

Reference Page – Include all sources including your textbook on a Reference page

Utilize the APA Style for documenting sources. You will need to include at least two sources in addition to your textbook. Finally, remember Wikipedia is NOT a scholarly source.

Punctuation, essay format (thesis, supporting paragraphs with transition and topic sentences, and summary) grammar and documentation count toward your grade. Review the grading rubric.

Poor On-Time Performance Submit Assignment

Scenario: Our customers have been complaining about the quality of the systems work we’ve been doing for them for the past few years. In particular, they don’t like our poor on-time performance on projects. In exit interviews, several of our employees who left the organization have commented on how hard it is to work here because they are never sure of what they should be doing, or how they should be interacting with others on their program teams.

Your management team has come to you with the above problem scenario that they need you to advise them on and plan a strategy to address. Write and submit a memo to your manager that describes something in your Standards Framework (Hint: CMMI is a good choice for this kind of problem!) that you believe will address the problem. Your memo should offer a general description of how your chosen Framework component(s) address the problem as described. It should then describe the long-term prospects for what it will mean to implement the component(s) in the organization, as well as a short-term description of how you’ll move toward implementation in the first three to six months.

Follow these instructions carefully….

  • This memo is to your management, not to other engineers. It needs to be brief and concise, and yet contain appropriate technical details to properly explain your position and planning. The best management memos fit on a single page. Don’t re-explain the problem to them. Don’t go into deep detail that they don’t need to know. Stay focused on how implementing your plan will solve the problem.
  • You are welcome to discuss the scenario with anyone you wish, including fellow students in this class. However, your memo must be distinctly yours. Sharing or comparing text with classmates will be considered plagiarism. Your memo must be YOUR wording.
  • Make sure your submission looks and reads like a business memo to management. If you don’t know what that means, do some extra research. Normally in this class the actual look-and-feel of your writing is less important that the content — but on this assignment how your memo looks is important since an unstructured or “ugly” memo won’t be read or appreciated by the managers you send it to.
  • Roughly a third of the points on this assignment will be for your submission looking and reading like a memo, a third for selecting and describing an appropriate standard from your Framework, and a third for explaining your plan effectively to management.

Technology has exponentially increased the opportunity for forged or stolen documents. This is especially concerning for law firms that store confidential information electronically. If law firms do not maintain especially tight security, then they are at risk of malpractice exposure. Imagine how devastating it would be for a litigation attorney to discover during trial that the opposing side already knew the litigation strategy along with confidential information about the case.
