Peruse the Pennsylvania Pandemic Flu Plan. No disaster plan is without flaws or weaknesses

Peruse the Pennsylvania Pandemic Flu Plan. No disaster plan is without flaws or weaknesses. Based on your knowledge of disaster mitigation and response, as well as your knowledge of public health, design a tool which could be used by the PA DOH as an instructional guide to their county offices on how they plan to handle an influenza pandemic. As part of this guide, present at least 5 weaknesses or potential weaknesses that you find here. Additionally, comment on how and why personnel in county public health offices may be overwhelmed during a pandemic and what tasks they would have to address to assist in response to and mitigation of the disaster.

Chapter 8 Essay and Discussion

Political Participation and Voting

In chapter 8 of We The People (Ginsberg, et.al.) we discuss political participation, voting, and cause and effect of low voter turn out. As Americans, we are taught that voting goes hand in hand with patriotism. It is our duty as citizens to be active political participants. According to We The People, voting was not originally extended to all citizens. Instead it mostly included white, male, landowners. Over the years through civil unrest, protest, and political movements, suffrage is now extended to all American citizens.

In 1880, voting rights were extended to all male American citizens prohibiting race discrimination. But voting fees and unfair literacy test aimed to prevent the poor, uneducated, black and white voters were meant to suppress voters. Other tactics where such as closing voting poll stations in minority neighborhoods are still used today (Fausset, nytimes.com). Voter suppression is meant to deter minority or low income voters from participating in the political process. Recently voters in Georgia rejected a proposition made in Georgia to close 7 out of 9 voting stations in predominantly Black neighborhoods (Fausset, 2018).

Voting day takes place on the first Tuesday of November. Like many working class citizens, that work a 9-5 jobs, standing in long lines after work is not entirely appealing. Other factors such as single parent families make voting on a weekday extremely difficult, in large part due to the second shift many single parents undertake. Second shift meaning, many single parents will come home from work to take care of household responsibilities such as cooking, cleaning, taking care of children and shopping for the household. Taking a day off to vote can mean a loss of wages, a risk many simply can not afford. Low income citizens tend to have the lowest numbers among voter participation (Ginsberg, et.al.).

Youth voter participation has shown an increase in recent years, in large part due to changes in laws regarding voter registration. Many states have created laws that either automatically registers all eligible citizens or allow same day voting and registration. Despite efforts to encourage voter participation, in 2016 only 59% voted in the presidential election (Ginsberg, et. al.). Although 2008 showed the highest numbers among youth voters (18-24) at 44%, still a low number compared to older voters (65 and older) at 70% (Ginsberg, et.al.).

Many reasons can deter voter participation such as finances, and a disinterest in politics. But voting is meant to influence our government, and we as citizens are duty bound to participate as laws can affect all American citizens. Not only in major elections, but voting for local politicians as well. Politicians tend to vote on issues important to voters. Voting gives citizens a say in how our government runs, and what laws are passed. Gun violence, pay inequality, and poverty are all issues that affect all American citizens. A single mother having to maintain a household on one income would benefit from a change in laws requiring employers to pay them equally as men, as opposed to seeking financial help from the government that is subsequently funded by tax payers. Gun violence has affected all socioeconomic classes. Tent cities has become a regular fixture in many suburban areas. We no longer have the luxury of being disinterested in politics, because decisions made by government can affect our everyday lives.

Affirmative Action, sociology assignment help

how do you think Affirmative Action has done in meeting its goals the past 40 years? Does it carry a stigma about minority applicants being less qualified than majority applicants? How would you feel if someone at your work received a promotion over you, based on their race and not qualifications or abilitiy to do the job?

Could we make some changes to the Affirmative Action Law to make it more fair or add a group of people to be helped? Are there companies that should not have to worry about Affirmative Action? Why? Would you include gay or LGBT members as people who should be covered under Affirmative Action?

This week you will examine how to be a patient advocate for all individuals, particularly those who are from a different culture than your own.

  1. First, consider an ethical dilemma that you have encountered in your own nursing practice—choose one that was caused by a misunderstanding between people from different cultures. Describe that situation clearly.
  2. How did each group or individual perceive the dilemma? (Present both sides, objectively.)
  3. Identify the conflicting values and belief systems held by each group.
  4. What data was missing—what information did the health care providers not have about the patient’s culture?
  5. Next, define culturally congruent care.

accurate work. If you only provide the final answers without showing your computations, you will not be assigned a full score (or you will miss the opportunity of receiving partial credit).

Problem 1: Efficiency, Utilization and Cycle Time (10 points)

You have started a lawn mowing business and need to measure how your business has been performing. You have determined that the standard time to mow a half acre yard is 60 minutes. Your company’s theoretical capacity is 27 yards per day and your company’s rated capacity is 19yards per day. Yesterday your company mowed 17 yards.

One of your employees, John, took 70 minutes to complete the last half acre yard he mowed. What was his efficiency? (2 points)

What was your company’s efficiency yesterday? (2 points)

What was your company’s utilization yesterday? (2 points)

You recorded the following times for one of your employees yesterday. Use this table to answer

What is the Percent of Value Added Time for this process? (2 points)

Problem 2: Breakeven, Total Cost and Expected Value (9 points)

You are planning to open a bakery that specializes in cupcakes. You know the variable cost to make one cupcake is $0.50 and you expect to sell them for $3.00 each. The location you are considering has a fixed cost (rent, utilities, taxes, etc.) of $5,000 per month. You are unsure what the demand for your cupcakes will be, but have done some market research and estimated the following demand scenarios and probability of eachlevel of demand.

Demand Level

Monthly Cupcakes Sold

1,500

30%

Medium Demand

5,000

50%

High Demand

12,000

20%

How many cupcakes do you need to sell each month to break even? (3 points)

What is the total monthly cost (fixed plus variable) for your bakery if there is low demand for cupcakes? (3 points)

What is the expected value of the total monthly cost for your bakery? (3points)

Problem 3: Theory of Constraints (6 points)

The manufacturing company you work for has a four step assembly process shown in the flow diagram below.

Process 1

Capacity =

60 units/hr

Process 2

Capacity =

70 units/hr

Process 3

Capacity =

80 units/hr

Process 4

Capacity =

What is the maximum output this assembly process could produce in 8 hours? (2 points)

If the capacity of Process 3 is increased to 90 units/hour, how many units can be assembled in 8 hours? (2 points)

If the capacity of Process 4 is increased to 90 units/hour, how many units can be assembled in 8 hours?
