Initiating the job search

This SLP asks for TWO parts:

1. A goodwill message to a prospective employer, and
2. An essay that summarizes the business communications principles you used from the background readings.

Please pay particular focus to the principles outlined in Chapter 1: Effective Business Communications, within the Business Communication for Success book from the University of Minnesota.

In the SLPs for this course, you will assume the role of a currently employed professional wanting to change careers. Each of the SLPs will focus on different phases of the job search. In each SLP, you will apply the business communication principles covered in the module.

Search for companies you are interested in working for, or jobs you are keen on. You may begin your search at an employment website (such as Monster.com, usajobs.gov, etc.) and find a job opening that interests you. Save the existing job advertisement for a position you are interested in.

You will be completing the subsequent SLPs using this job opening you identified.

Write a generic email, using principles from routine and goodwill emails, to inquire about your desired position. You may ask questions related to application procedures, deadlines, references, or any other detail. The objective of this email is to build rapport with the company and notify them of your interest, and the possibility you may be submitting an application later on. Include the actual job advertisement in your submission. This could be a pdf document, or a link to the advertisement.

Following the email, write an essay explaining the principles and good practices you followed while creating it.

4 Customer Interviews:

I attached an example and a template of the interview questions. You are able to change the questions based on customer response. But stay within the idea that we are trying to build an app that will let people reserve parking spots on campus ahead of time.

Public post style:

write a public post style (somewhat informal and more opinion based) about the customer discovery process. What insight can you share about customer interviews? How has it guided the direction of your idea and team? What advice would you give others about the importance of customer discovery when launching an idea? 100-200 words.

Fusion Centers

Chapter six in our textbook discusses Fusion Centers. Read the text, and using information from the text and at least two of the following listed sources, answer the following questions in the form of an essay.

Be sure to identify passages you are quoting, summarizing, or paraphrasing in your essay, and be sure to identify which source those words or ideas come from. Do not use any outside sources other than those listed:

1. Why were Fusion Centers created?
2. What are the main goals of a Fusion Center? Which one do you think is most important? Why?
3. What is different and important about the staffing of Fusion Centers that proponents say make them effective?
4. Is there or could there be a relationship between the public staffing and function of Fusion Centers and private policing? If so, what might it be, if not, why not?

Navigate to the web sites listed below. Each has a search function that can be used to request information about topics such as Fusion Centers. Search for information on Fusion Centers to use in your paper. Not all sites will have useable information on all topics:

Your paper must be formatted in the following manner:

• The paper must be 500-750 words in length. Only the body of the paper counts towards the length. No information that belongs on a title page or reference page will count towards the length requirement.
• Use Times New Roman 12 point font, and double-space your lines.

Current Events and U.S. Diplomacy

Draw from the information gained in your first research paper (20180126215843the_cold_war_and_the_u__1_revised) and expand your research to follow up in a new paper. Write three to four (3-4) new pages that address the following:

1. Define presidential doctrine and summarize the regional or global events during the Cold War leading up to the formation of the presidential doctrine you wrote about in Assignment 1.
2. Select one country you wrote about in Assignment 1 and describe the Cold War relationship that existed between the country you selected and the U.S. before the presidential doctrine was announced.
3. Describe the relationship that currently exists between the U.S. and the country you selected in section (2) above.
4. Describe the effect that the presidential doctrine has had on regional or global affairs since it was announced during the Cold War.
5. Assess whether the presidential doctrine you wrote about in Assignment 1 had had the intended effect of altering the behavior of the country you selected in section (2) above in the time since the doctrine was first announced.
6. Cite at least four (4) reputable sources in addition to the textbook, not including Wikipedia, encyclopedias, or dictionaries.

To help you understand this assignment further, the following description and examples may be useful.

Step 1: Define a doctrine and identify why a president would want to announce one. A doctrine is an ideological platform that a president uses to advance a policy towards a country or region in order to accomplish foreign policy goals for the United States, so you will need to expand on this theme.

Refer back to Assignment 1 and build on whatever doctrine you wrote about then. Say, for example, you selected the Truman Doctrine. Therefore, this is the only thing you will write about in Assignment 2 step 1.

Step 2: Select one country you wrote about in Assignment 1 and describe the Cold War relationship that existed between it and the U.S. before the presidential doctrine was announced.

In the case of the Reagan Doctrine, you would select Nicaragua, Angola, Russia, or Afghanistan (although there were several others).

Step 3: Describe what effect the presidential doctrine you chose has had on regional or global affairs since it was announced during the Cold War.

That is, how did the doctrine change the status quo regionally or globally after it was announced by the U.S.? What happened in Western Europe after the Truman Doctrine was announced? What happened in the Middle East after the Eisenhower Doctrine was announced? What happened with Cuba or Vietnam after Kennedy offered up his doctrine of flexible response? What happened in Southeast Asia or the Persian Gulf after the Nixon Doctrine went in effect? What happened in the Middle East after the Carter Doctrine was announced? What happened in Central America or Africa or the Middle East after Reagan announced his doctrine?

Step 4: Refer back to the country you selected in step two and describe the relationship that currently exists between the U.S. and that country.

How has the relationship changed between the U.S. and that country since the doctrine was announced?

Step 5: Evaluate whether the presidential doctrine had had the intended effect of altering the behavior of the one country you selected in section (2) above since the doctrine was first announced.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

• Identify the cultural, economic, and political context of information resources, and interpret information in light of that context.
• Use technology and information resources to research issues in international problems.
• Write clearly and concisely about international problems using proper writing mechanics.

Your assignment must:

• Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
• Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required page length.

Research Paper Proposal

You will be writing a paper proposal that informs me of the topic you wish to

research for your research paper. The proposal will be a minimum of two pages

long and will be comprised of several different parts.

assignment to really begin to think about what you will be writing about in your

research paper. You may arrange the proposal in any order that you feel

makes sense.
