Using the simple black silhouettes in large scale on a white gallery wall, Walker utilizes historically inspired stylized figure to create visual narratives that explore America’s past (and present) relationship with African culture, slavery, and the romanticized nostalgia of “Southern” culture. Her images are biting, and controversial, and it is this very reason that she makes this work.

Robert Motherwell was an artist that worked in the nonrepresentational styles called Abstract Expressionist. Even though his paintings lacked clear objective iconography, his painting’s subject matter focused on the Spanish Civil War, specifically the authoritarian dominance of the Franco regime. Since these works are non-representational, they require some contextual research of the work in order to fully understand the meaning.

Using massive scale photography of the everyday underrepresented segment of society, JR’s work addresses poverty, politics and gender. Bringing social awareness to the public, JR’s work predominantly exists in the public space.

GUERRILLA GIRLS (image 12.1) https://www.guerrillagirls.com (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Since the early 1980’s this anonymous art collaborative has been educating the public, utilizing the visual language of advertising, with their posters and billboards. Their messages inform us about the gender inequities in the art world. Through their efforts the public are informed of the lack of equal pay for women, the lack of women artists in museum collections (despite the over-representation of a nude woman’s body as subject matter), and many other true social inequities experienced by women.

Now………

Part 1: Answer all of the following general questions for two artists; one Gallery artist and one Outside of the Gallery artist:

  1. Who is the audience for the artworks in this chapter, everyone or a select few? Please describe in detail.
  2. How is the artwork’s audience (us, those who see them) relevant to the work? Is there a relationship between audience and content?

And…..

Part 2: Now that you’ve learned about these artists, chose the one artist whose work resonated with you the most personally. Find a specific artwork (and imbed it in the discussion) that you feel best represents this message. Include the artist, title, size, and location.

Answer the following:

  1. Artwork embedded, artist, title, size, location.
  2. What is the message/goal of the art? Be specific.
  3. How effectively does the artwork communicate it message? Provide specific examples in you answer. Does the range (the number of viewers) of audience affect this?
  4. Do you think the artist’s success in the artwork is directly related to the size of the audience that see it, since it is about protest? Be specific.

  2. A town in Ontario recently passed a by-law prohibiting street musicians from playing music within 50 metres of all local businesses. The street musicians challenged the by-law in court arguing that it was unconstitutional.

You are the judge in this dispute. You agree that the freedom of expression rights of the musicians have been infringed under section 2(b) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Write your judgment as to whether the by-law can be upheld as a reasonable limit under section 1 of the Charter.

Annotated Bibliography: Doctoral Identity

Annotations are descriptive and critical assessments of literature that help researchers to evaluate texts and determine relevancy in relation to a particular research project. Ultimately, they are a note-taking tool that fosters critical thinking, demonstrates understanding, and evaluates the source material for possible later use. In this assignment, you will read and annotate three articles.

General Requirements:

  • Locate the articles by Baker and Pifer (2011), Gardner (2009), and Smith and Hatmaker (2014) in the Course Materials for this topic.
  • This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
  • Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their writing assignments. Review the GCU APA Style Guide for Writing located in the Student Success Center. Note: A title page is required for this assignment, but a reference page is not required since the references are included with the annotations.
  • Refer to the resource, “Preparing Annotated Bibliographies” located in the Student Success Center, for additional guidance on completing this assignment in the appropriate style. Use “Sample APA Annotated Bibliography” example in this resource.
  • You are required to submit this assignment to Turnitin. Refer to the directions in the Student Success Center.

Directions:

Read the articles by Baker & Pifer (2011), Gardner (2009), and Smith & Hatmaker (2014). These articles and the persistent links to them are located in the Course Materials for Topic 2.

Provide an annotated bibliography (750-900 words total, excluding the reference notes) of the articles. Including the following for each article:

  1. A reference note formatted according to APA style guidelines. The reference note is not included in the total word count.
  2. An annotation (250-300 words) of the article. Annotations are descriptive and critical assessments of peer reviewed articles. Annotations summarize the key concepts and evaluate the article for its strengths and weaknesses. Why was the study conducted? What was the population studied? What did the researcher(s) conclude? What other information about this study do you believe is unique or important to recall? Are there specific statements made by the author you wish to retain?

criminal justice policy essay, law homework help

Select a criminal justice policy to research and assess for your course project. Define and discuss the project topic you selected briefly but precisely in a 200-word essay. Generally, you want to explore the policy, why it was developed, how it addresses a criminal justice issue, how effective it has been, and the social changes it seeks to bring about. Please include a working title.

Conclude this assignment with an annotated bibliography of five peer-reviewed journal articles related to your topic. It is not necessary to read beyond the titles and abstracts of articles for this assignment. Summarize each source and suggest how the article might relate to your topic in 50 to 75 words for each annotation.

Specifically, you must ensure that your concept essay and annotated bibliography:

  • Identifies the criminal justice policy or program targeted for societal change within the United States that you selected for your project.
  • Identifies scholarly materials that inform the discussion of the selected criminal justice policy or program.

Please make sure that you have complied with assignment instructions, including proper APA formatting requirements for the citations and the references. Your writing should also comply with Capella University standards for graduate work.

Submit your Concept Paper and Annotated Bibliography in the assignment area.

Toulmin researched academic argument essay

Choose and write a 7 page (Not including citations) paper on a argumentative topic of your choice. It must be something that can be researched using authoritative sources. The topic doesn’t have to be about a current event: it could be in line with a future career choice, a hobby or sport, pop culture, or any area of interest. I will attach all of the guidelines for the essay below! Please spend time and read it because they are very important.

Do not choose a topic from the following list:

  • Abortion, assisted suicide, capital punishment, and other topics dealing with the human-influenced beginning or ending of life
  • Gun control, in the sense of guns are bad/good or that reasonable controls would destroy the Second Amendment
  • Politics, in the sense of supporting or defending a person, party, or administration
  • Evolution versus creationism
  • Anything involving animal cruelty, animal testing, etc.

Craft Elements:Write in third person, with a tone appropriate to your topic. DO. NOT. USE first or second person, other than briefly in an anecdotal introduction. (Even then, they’re best avoided here. See the Week 5 lecture for information about using point of view.)

  • Be persuasive and authoritative– but maintain your objectivity. Remember: argument, at its heart, is a search for truth, and every arguer must be prepared to have his or her perspective shift.
  • Focus on facts and explicit evidence: logos. Avoid bringing in belief, opinion, or faith-based positions. Don’t be cold, though– include enough emotional appeal (pathos) to stay connected to your reader.
  • Use description and plenty of detail to make your points clear. Use a new paragraph for each key point and expand each point thoroughly; this will make it easy to reach the required page count. Each paragraph should lead off with a point you wish to make. Follow this with examples, definitions, description, evidence, and then some analysis. This is how we build sturdy, robust paragraphs, folks. 🙂
  • Use a variety of evidence. The best arguments work from a number of different angles.
  • Aim for a balanced use of emotion and logic in making your points. This will contribute to a sense of fairness that supports your writerly ethos. Bring in kairos if you can. Kairos refers to “right time – right place.” An argument rich in kairos is one that is currently “in the news,” making it automatically more interesting to the reader.
  • Give your paper a title that is interesting while accurately forecasting the paper’s content.
  • Use your sources carefully (see below) and don’t let them run away with the paper. Remember that every sentence containing source material must be cited/indicated. Any source listed in your paper must appear on Works Cited, and anything on Works Cited must appear in your essay.

Sources:

Your essay must include at least six authoritative outside sources.

  • At least four sources should be “academic” and should come from the library’s catalog/databases/resources. Be sure to cite these sources using the “two container” format, which we’ll cover later on.
  • The other sources must be authoritative but may come from any location. And of course, you may use more than six if desired. (!)
  • Cite your sources correctly in-text and in an MLA Works Cited list.
  • I expect to see quality sources: show me that you’ve sought out the best possible material and not just the first hits on a Google search.
  • Note, too, that the most successful papers typically use more than six sources.

Length:

Write at least 7 pages. In this essay, more sources (beyond the required 6) and more pages tend to equate with a higher grade.

Format:

Use precise MLA style.

Also:

    1. Use menu-set hanging paragraphs in your Works Cited.
    2. Place/insert a menu-set page break before the ‘W’ in Works Cited.
