Drug Treatment for ADHD

Drug Treatment for ADHD

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has received a lot of media coverage in the past ten years. One of the things most misunderstood about the disorder is the treatment. Children (and adults) afflicted with ADHD are often treated with stimulant drugs. Parents are often hesitant about giving their children these stimulant medications. Treating hyperactivity with a drug that increases activity appears paradoxical.

Using the Argosy University online library resources, find at least two peer-reviewed journal articles that explain the effect of stimulant drugs (such as Adderall or Ritalin—amphetamine or methylphenidate) on the brains of those with ADHD.

Create a brochure that explains the benefits of using stimulant medications and addresses the concerns of parents of children with ADHD. Be sure to use language appropriate for the audience. Include the following in your brochure:

  • Summarize the findings of the two articles.
  • Explain the effect that these drugs have in the brain.
  • Explain the concerns of using stimulant drugs to treat ADHD.

Develop a 2-3-page brochure in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M2_A2.doc.

Testimony on a Medicare Subtopic

Role of Presenters:

You are knowledgeable and passionate about a particular health policy related issue. You receive a phone call from a health legislative aide from your U.S. Senator’s office and he/she asks you to prepare and deliver testimony at an upcoming Congressional health committee hearing on a topic related to this issue.

Each student will be assigned to a panel of 4-5 students to testify on a topic related to ONE of the below policy issues:

MY ASSIGNED TOPIC IS MEDICARE, I NEED A SUBTOPIC TO PRESENT ABOUT. THERE IS ALREADY SOMEONE PRESENTING ON MEDICARE FOR CHRONIC CARE AND AGING. I NEED TO SPEAK ABOUT A DIFFERENT SUBTOPIC IN MEDICARE. ALL I NEED IS A PAGE OR TWO OF RESEARCHED INFORMATION WHICH I CAN SPEAK ABOUT FOR 5 MINUTES.

Each panel of students will research their assigned health policy issue, and decide what timely subtopic each student will address in their testimony. Each student must address a different policy topic under the panel’s assigned policy issue (NOT a different part of the testimony).

Prepare and deliver a 5-minute testimony (maximum time per student) in class to a (pretend) Congressional committee with health jurisdiction interested in your policy issue and considering legislation to address the issue.Be creative on how you approach your topic. For example, you may be proposing a new piece of legislation, arguing a new policy angle to existing policy, etc.

Each student’s testimony on the panel should include a brief background on the issue, facts, your proposal, and arguments (pro and con).AT LEAST ONE-HALF OF YOUR TESTIMONY TIME MUST BE SPENT ON THE SUBSTANCE OF YOUR POLICY PROPOSAL.

PRACTICE YOUR PRESENTATION.DO NOT STAND UP AND SIMPLY READ YOUR NOTES.NO POWERPOINT SLIDES OR HANDOUTS. View the following short video that provides effective tips for testifying: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcMp3NTIyjQ

Format should resemble actual short Congressional testimonies, which can be found on Congressional Committee websites (i.e., go to http://help.senate.gov/, then click on “Hearings”, then the year you want to view (i.e., 2016), then the month (i.e., November), then the topic of interest (i.e., Ensuring Drug Safety: Where Do We Go From Here?), then view the individual testimonies to get a feel of format, content, etc.

The Internet is an ideal communication mechanism because of its openness and anonymity but people must make ethical decisions about how to use this power. Intellectual property is a work of the mind, such as art, books, formulas, inventions, and processes that are distinct and created by a single person or group.Copyright law protects authored works such as art, books, film, and music. Patent law protects inventions, and trade secret law helps safeguard information that is mission critical in an organization

Discuss how freedom of expression and intellectual property rights might ethically conflict. In your reply, consider how your own freedom of expression might affect your privacy or personal intellectual property. Please provide examples when possible.

Note: Please answer this question on a single page.

Paper CE: Analysis of a Current Events article.

The purpose of this assignment is to analyze a current events article (i.e., only one) that you may choose from any online current periodical, trade magazine, or other electronic publication about a global digital ethical issue. While this assignment will increase your knowledge in that subject area from a corporation viewpoint and enable you to analyze digital ethical issues of a current GLOBAL situation or event, it will also help enhance your research and writing skills, as well as your critical-thinking abilities.

You start by selecting one current IT related online article (2015 sources or later) about a global ethical issue. You will want to note that this assignment is not a general essay about the topic selected, it must be about the current event article selected. In addition, while articles from journals may be of interest, they are ultimately too long and involved for this assignment – it is best to find an article from the World Wide Web. Provide the source citation that is in compliance with the American Psychological Association (APA) formatting rules, as well as the persistent URL that is clickable (one that anyone can click on to re-access the original article).

The following elements must be addressed:

  • Summarize the whole article by all of its key or salient points. It may help if you use bullets to note the salient points of the article, as you read through it. A summary is desired, not just the “thrust’ of the article.
  • Analyze the multi-national and global aspects of the article – what is the impact or what is the importance of the information in the article?
  • Determine three critically important questions you would like to address to the author regarding the article – you are not expected to answer the questions!

When complete, you will post your assignment into the LEO Assignments module under the appropriate slot. The instructor will provide your grade and feedback via the LEO Grades tool. This assignment does not have a specific length, but you want to make sure that you have fulfilled the three requirements listed above. Use APA formatted source citations for all sources utilized, in your reference list. Remember, as a minimum, the source citation for your article must be included along with a clickable URL. In addition to critical thinking and analysis skills, your paper should reflect appropriate writing mechanics, good organization, and proper business-writing style.

Compare and contrast eighteenth-century (1700 to 1799) slavery as it existed in

Write a 4-5 page paper with a title page and bibliography following the format used by your major or department: APA, MLA or the Chicago style.

You must have at least three academic secondary sources (use the Online Library) and as many primary sources as you can find. YOU MUST CITE YOUR SOURCES! Footnote, footnote, footnote. As per the APUS grading rubric, do not use your textbook or encyclopedias (or generally tertiary sources). You must let me know what style you are using (Chicago, APA, or MLA).

At the beginning of a case, many attorneys will send their clients a
“preservation letter” in order to ensure that documents which may need
to be disclosed during discovery are preserved in their original format.
Your supervising attorney may have a template letter for you to use, or
may ask you to assist with drafting such a letter, as information is
always changing in terms of the types of information needed to be
preserved. For this assignment, edit the attached preservation letter
using the track changes feature or by using an alternative font color,
so the letter will comply with the rules in your state regarding
preservation of evidence and to make the letter easily understood by a
client. Then, in a memo to your supervising attorney, Joe Smith, explain
why you made the changes you made, and the purpose behind a
preservation letter. Be sure to include a discussion about what could
happen if documents were destroyed or were not preserved.

5 Articles Categorize

I have 5 articles and I need to do

Read “How Can I Use That? Four Motives for Using a Source” (attached) and write an approximately 160 words response (1-2 paragraphs) where you reflect on how you can begin to categorize the 5 sources you gathered. In other words, look at your sources and determine which of them can:

1) “Extend your thinking” (i.e. pose additional important questions, issues that deepen your understanding of your topic–think surprising information, or sources that clear up misconceptions)

2) “Provide necessary background ” (sources that help you define, provide general historical or cultural context, explain common assumptions, etc.)

3) “Support or exemplify a point you want to make or an issue you think needs to be explored” (sources that will help you answer some of the specific questions you think you need to address in your research project)

4) “Present opportunities for analysis and interpretation of key points and even of other sources” (think about what connections between sources you can make to show the various perspectives, sources that provide key information to help develop ideas that are essential to understanding your topic.)

I attach an example below, but be aware that the example contains more than 5 sources,–you still only have to categorize your five-six sources.

HCA 430 Final Project

Final Project

Imagine you are a policymaker or city council member and are actively involved in improving the lives of the vulnerable.  Via the first two written assignments, you have already selected one vulnerable population, which is in need of a new program or service within your community. You will research and design a presentation (APA style Paper or PowerPoint Presentation), which you will present at the next city meeting to advocate for your special population group.
The Final Project should demonstrate an understanding of the reading assignments, class discussions, as well as your own research and application of new knowledge. It must contain the following elements below and be re-written in your own words (you are welcome to refer to your previous assignments for guidance, but do not copy and paste from them):

  1. A description of why this population group is vulnerable and in desperate need for help within your community.
  2. Identification of the health service needs of this special population.
  3. In order to support your claims and opinions, cite statistical data obtained from the county health department, state health department, and/or other organizations and agencies.

Design a model program or service, which is needed to improve the lives of your chosen population within your community. Remember to design a new program not currently existent within your community.  In your design, include the following:

  1. A description of the continuum of care level (preventive, treatment, or long-term care) your program or service fall into and how it meets the needs of your selected group.
  2. An analysis of the delivery modes of health services to be included.
  3. A discussion regarding the multidisciplinary approach that is incorporated into the program.
  4. An analysis of the role of legal and ethical requirements in the design of the program.
  5. Identification of a minimum of two community agencies/organizations you would like to partner with in some way(s) in order to implement this program/service.  Explain why you would like to partner with these organizations and how can they help or benefit you with the implementation of your program/service.
  6. Analysis of the current funding sources for provision of health services to this special population. Discuss the use of integrated funding. Based on your research, identify a minimum of two funding sources that may potentially provide monetary sponsorship for your program or service.  Explain why these entities would be likely funding sources.

Be detailed and convincing in describing the above elements, as you are attempting to win as much support from the attending members as possible.

For your presentation, you may choose between the following formats:

  1. An APA formatted Final Paper
  2. A PowerPoint Presentation.

After reading Chapter 11 and 12 in your course text and the article “Considering the Definition of Addiction” which covers the biological basis of emotion, addiction (substance
abuse disorder), and disordered behavior, analyze the high rate of
smoking in those diagnosed with schizophrenia compared to the general
population.  Why are smoking cessation interventions less successful in
these individuals? Review the accepted mechanisms of tobacco abuse and
dependence and the etiologic theories of schizophrenia. What are the
biological and/or psychological mechanisms between schizophrenia and
smoking?  Include information on brain structures, pathways,
neurotransmitters/receptors, and psychological factors when discussing
the topic areas above.  Additional emphasis should be placed on relating
the underlying pathology of schizophrenia to tobacco dependence/abuse
and the biological or psychological mechanism of the observed
association of smoking behavior to the diagnosis of schizophrenia.

In keeping with the focus of this class, the emphasis should be placed
on the role of neurotransmitter and receptor systems, neuroanatomical
structures, and neurological functional pathways.  You must use a
minimum of one peer-reviewed source that was published within the last
five years, documented in APA style, as outlined in the Ashford Writing
Center. How does the data support the proposed mechanism in the article
you chose?  What other possible mechanisms might explain this
relationship?  Is it possible that biology has nothing to do with the
relationship between smoking and schizophrenia?  Your post should be a
minimum of 250 words.  You may cite and reference your textbook,
required reading and/or multimedia, but these will not fulfill the
source requirement.
