As I listened to the presentation of Dr. Nora Volkow on Alcohol Dependence a Brain Disease, I was really concentrating on the statistics of the models. What got me most of the slides were with the alcohol, marijuana and tobacco that 12 years old and older are using. Even though we have discussed this in our earlier discussions, but it still amazes me. Far as the discussion, do I think that alcohol dependence is a brain disease, I think so. I think so because if your brain gets too much of what it is receiving, it will want it more and more. It is all about the individual and how they are controlling the use of alcohol or drugs or sometimes it maybe the brain pattern of the individual. For an example, my cousin went to a party and someone put acid in his drink, he had mental issues immediately after that. I used to drink socially but started to drink heavily, I never craved to drink, and I stopped on my own. An individual can get addicted to anything, such as porn, food, drinking, smoking, drugs and sex, et, but it is the behavior that comes into play behind it and that is when it becomes abusive.

I think the brain models doesn’t say much at all. If the brain models were shown at a treatment center or a 12- step program, I don’t think that will make an individual want to stop their addiction. I think it takes the individual to want to make up in their minds to realize that the addiction has become abusive and they are/will harm not only themselves or others. But one comment I do have about the presentation itself. Is when Dr. Volkow kept saying that “these are the numbers”. I have learned in statistics that numbers can change all the time and that they also can be misleading.

Functions of Management

During this lecture, we will be discussing the basic functions of management in business organizations.

I’d like to begin our discussion today by defining what management is. Simply stated, management is coordinating the activities of a business by working with the people and resources of the organization to achieve its overall goals.

In today’s hectic business world, it is common for a manager to wear several hats. Think of it this way, in many organizations, a manager is not only the coach of the team, but they are also the cheerleader, the umpire, and groundskeeper all rolled into one.

It doesn’t matter what your particular management style is, there are 4 main functions that are required of all managers. Part of being a manager is that your primary responsibility is usually to manage the people who are actually doing the tasks, not doing those tasks yourself. In my experience, understanding the basics of what a manager does will not only help you be a better manager, but will also help you become a better employee, make sense?

Now I’d like to discuss the basics of the 4 main management functions of management.

Planning

  • Most basic function of management
  • Define team goals
  • Develop strategies for reaching goals
  • Design ways to merge and coordinate team’s activities

Organizing

  • Organizing tasks to accomplish the organization’s goals
  • Decide what tasks are to be done and who will do them

Leading

  • Motivate employees
  • Positively influence individuals or teams as they perform tasks
  • Mentor and coach employees
  • Handle employee behavior issues

Controlling

  • Evaluate if things are going as planned
  • Monitor and evaluate employee performance
  • Correct any employee issues

Media Proposal- Psychology Drugs/Alochol

Construction

Step Three: Write the paper. Begin the paper with an introduction that summarizes the main findings of the AAP article and previews what will be covered in the coming pages. Next, compare and contrast the portrayal of substance use found in the media with the information learned about that substance in the class and textbook. What messages about the substance are being portrayed? How accurate are those messages relative to the actual data on substance use? Be sure to cite the textbook as needed.

Continue by comparing and contrasting the portrayal of substance use found in the media with the criticism of media portrayals found in the AAP paper. Does the media example match their arguments or contradict them? What links and connections can be made? Be sure to cite the article as needed.

Next, draw some conclusions about the portrayal of substance use found in the media, addressing the following: What are the implications of this type of portrayal? What messages are being sent and to whom? Are those messages an accurate representation of the use of this substance? Should media portrayals be required to be accurate in their depictions of use, showing both positive and negative consequences?

Finally, review the guidelines suggested by the AAP at the end of their policy statement and address the following: Although directed specifically at pediatricians, which of those recommendations is most important? Why? Are these recommendations necessary? If followed, will they be effective in addressing the concerns raised earlier in the article? Be sure to cite sources as needed.

Step Four:

The required length of this paper is 11 pages, plus a required a cover page and a reference list. Papers must comply with APA formatting rules, including font size and margins, and must have a scholarly focus and tone. Quoting of published material and use of the first-person “I” are not permitted and will result in point loss. All source material must be paraphrased into your own words and cited appropriately.

On submission your work will auto-run through Turnitin.com’s plagiarism checker software.

The grading rubric below details specific grading criteria.

The Final Major Paper document should be attached in the appropriate Assignment tab and will be evaluated using the rubric below:

MEDIA PROPOSAL:

Substance use both drugs and alcohol have become much more popularly displayed in our media. Media is having a huge role on adolescents because they are constantly seeing drugs, alcohol, and even cigarettes portrayed in most movies, television shows, and also on the internet. Teenagers are most likely to participate in the use of alcohol and cigarettes. Although that may be where they start, it could potentially lead to bigger issues with drug related activities. Even if children are not watching television shows, or movies with alcohol or drug involvement there are commercials they may view while watching television or being on the internet watching videos that involve alcohol as well. A great example is watching to football, a family sport and on Sundays you sit around and watch as a family and enjoy each other’s time. Commonly alcohol is associated with sporting events. Therefore, there are typically always commercials referring to alcohol for an example the Budweiser commercials during the super bowl. Adolescents are more likely to see commercials that promote alcohol and see movies that promote drug use, rather than seeing preventive advertisements.

For my major paper I want to focus more on the recreational use of marijuana. A handful of states have decriminalized or even legalized marijuana so the portrayal in the media has heightened. Adolescents are not blind to what is going on and they are curious. Movies such as “Neighbors” portrays marijuana usage as being “cool” with college aged adults. It is also portrayed in a more innocent way with the main characters Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne who are a married couple with a child and they smoke marijuana to kick back and relax after living an adult life of work and family. This can negatively affect a child who watches this movie because they are seeing both the party scene where they may be convinced that is what happens at all parties and feel as though they are expected to do the same. This movie also portrays it in what might be considered innocent, but a child could also think that it may be normal to smoke marijuana after having a “rough” day or just to destress after dealing with a normal day consisting of work and family. In this movie not only is marijuana a huge part but so is alcohol in the college frat house located next door to the family house. Most college aged adults are not even legal to drink until they are juniors or seniors. It is a known fact that most college aged children get out of the house and go to college where they “let loose” and party and drink now that their parents are no longer around. This has become the norm way of thinking because it is portrayed as such in movies like neighbors. College is looked at as a party scene in most adolescent’s eyes where alcohol is prominent. Movies like such are a comedy and have actors and actress’ that are popular and the movies are sought to be seen. Although it should be a movie for older adults, children have a lot more access and freedom to what they see with the internet in today’s world.

Outline for my research topic

I need to provide full outline for my research topic. I have example you have to follow for the outline

INTERNAL LAWS ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING (CHILD SLAVERY)

Child slavery is an issue that every country and leaders have paid a lot of attention in since children of minimum age are being overworked with some tasks that would be performed by an adult. This is obviously invading the future of the child and more so this act of child labor affects their health at their tender age. Child slavery affects the development and growth of the country as years pass by. The economy of the countries declines steadily.

  • Research questions
  • Who is a child? Between which range of ages is an individual a child?
  • Causes and effects of child labor on the children and the society?
  • Which kind of work is defined as child labor?
  • The enacted law on child slavery
  • The key steps needed to stop child slavery.
  • Is there any organ set aside to solve issues on child labor? If yes, is it dong its work as expected?
  • Thesis statement.
  • Child slavery is an issue that is in the international laws in order to protect children from being given tasks beyond their energy and ability. Countries are working together to stop child labor globally since it affects the future the country, remember these children are the hope of tomorrow.

Research Paper

A five-page (single-spaced; excluding references and tables)

identify two counties, cities, or firms and compare how they are responding to climate change.

The paper should follow the following format:
– Identify two units you wish to study;
– Briefly explain how they are similar or different (the rationale for comparing them)?
– Specify the policies (mitigation and/or adaptation) you are comparing;
– Why are you focusing on these policies; what do they reveal about these units’ climate policies;
– Are the responses of these units similar or different? How? Why?;
– The “therefore what?” question: how has this paper illuminated your understanding of climate policy.

Discussion Post: Technology

First, search the internet for information about scientific advances in
supporting wellness. There are multiple options to choose from. For example,
you could talk about wellness apps or wearable devices, virtual doctors,
advances in nanotechnology and medicine, lasers and surgery, improvements
for replacement limbs and other body structures, and so on.

Then, share a link to and describe your resource or scientific advance so
that we all have enough information to understand what it is and how it
could be used. Give an informal review answering the following questions:

What are the strengths and weaknesses of your chosen scientific advance?
What are possible ways it could support wellness from the perspective of
each of the four lenses?
How has technology improved our overall health?

tips for dealing with stress

In 100 words or more reply to statement below about tips for dealing with stress

I find that stress is the biggest reason why people fight, argue, breakup, avoid one another etc. When I am truly stressed I tend to shut down completely. I can only think about what the problem is – however, at the same time I am thinking about what I need to do to fix the problem. Sometimes it can be challenging though because the emotional overload is too much and it makes one want to crawl into a ball and hide. Of course, this is not a good option. I like how the text gave us tips on how to manage our stress response. What tips might you use or focus on the next time you are stressed?

Please watch this brief video about how children learn language:

Given what you have learned, offer an explanation of what’s happening in the following situation:

Sammy’s mother told him that the family would take a vacation in
Miami. The next morning, Sammy announced, “I gotted my bags packed. When
are we going to Your-ami?

____________________________________

Sami is taking the English rule that he innately knows, I turned it into a passed tense word by adding -ed. Instead of using “have,” he uses gotted because Sami believed that the correct word to use is got so he added the passed tense -ed to it to make gotten. He has also never heard the Miami before either so he remembers generally what it sounds like and pronounces in “your-ami.”

two or more sentences replying to this

________________________________

Sammy
is applying “ed” to the end of got because he believes that this is the
correct form of the word. This is probably because similar words he
knows end with “ed,” so he might assume all words end that way. He
probably pronounced Miami as “Your-ami” because he might have thought
the first part of the word was “your,” or he might not have been able to
fully pronounce the first part, so he pronounced it the closest way he
knew how to.
