Assignment Proposal

Week 4 Assignment

Print Page

Application: Final Project Proposal

Throughout your life, most likely you have observed leaders who rose above others (in your estimation) in terms of how well they managed people, problems, and challenges. These leaders are everywhere—whether it’s the community volunteer who starts a clothes drive for disaster victims in her state or the manager who achieves consensus from employees on a major innovation that will change the way an organization operates. What combination of abilities, behaviors, strategies, styles, and other factors enabled these leaders to effectively improve processes and outcomes?

The assignment (2–3 pages)

This week, for your assignment, you submit the second part of the Final Project, the Final Project Proposal, which is a 2- to 3-page (not including the Interview Consent Form) paper describing the leader you propose to interview and why you chose this leader for your Final Project. Also submit a list of interview questions you have created to ask him or her as well as the Interview Consent Form provided in Learning Resources for Week 1. Please be sure your Final Project Proposal adheres to the criteria stated in the Final Project Guidelines document.

Be sure to support your assignment with specific references to the resources and other current literature in the Walden Library. Use at least two scholarly sources from the library that were published within the past 5 years to support your paper.

Vision and mission statement for Hickey

Learning Activity #1 has two (2) points to be responded.

This week students have the opportunity to try their hands at creating a structure to fit an organization. Here are the facts:

Justin Hickey has created the Mountain Mug Cafe. It is known for its special blend coffee, fresh sandwiches and hearty salads at moderate prices and fast service to skiers in the bustling town of Park City, Utah. The cafe has a cozy ambiance, with a Western décor, a huge fireplace surrounded by comfy couches and chairs for people to sit and a huge picture window that overlooks the Rocky Mountains.

Catering to skiers, the cafe serves fresh meals in a hurry to people taking a break from the slopes and is located 10 minutes from a popular ski lift. The cafe’s major attraction, however, is a high-quality coffee bar that specializes in superior custom blend coffees made unique to each customer. Business has grown steadily in the last seven years and its future looks bright. Justin Hickey feels that he has other business interests that he wishes to explore and cannot address the cafe full-time. He wants to set in place a structure that will continue to grow the business while maintaining its quality and reputation.

Some additional facts that may help: Hickey currently employs a chef and two line cooks. The chef has been anxious to change menu items to take on seasonal fare and take a larger role in purchasing. Hickey has a wait staff of six people but is about to lose one to marriage. He currently is open from 8:00 am and closes with the ski lift at 5pm. These hours are seven days a week in season and six days a week off season with closing time on Saturday at 3pm. He is being encouraged by customers to stay open for dinner year round. This would mean an additional set of wait staff and cooks, etc. Also, Hickey is concerned about rising food prices.

Instructions:

  • Create a vision and mission statement for Hickey.
  • Create an organization structure which will further Hickey’s organization.

Ron Chernow, Washington: A Life, assignment help

Answer just two QS each it has to be 4 pages.
Also, I have attached five questions on George Washington that are taken primarily from Chernow’s book, though the fourth question is drawn partly from Forrest McDonald’s chapter that I sent as an attachment.  For the first paper assignment, which will be due three weeks from our next meeting, I will ask you to address two of the five questions below in essays of 3-4 pages each.  I may require question Number 4 as one of the two questions, but we can discuss this next Wednesday.

By next Wednesday, I will try to detail some of the chapters and pages that are responsive to each of the questions.  For now though, I’d like to simply use them as study-guide questions to focus your attention on some of the key topics addressed by Chernow.

Ron Chernow, Washington: A Life, chapters 1-5, 7, 11, 12, 15, 20-23,25-26, pp. 340-346, pp. 363-366, chapter 31, chapters 44-47, and chapter 49.

STUDY GUIDE QUESTIONS FOR CHERNOW’S BOOK ON WASHINGTON

1.If the battles of New York and Brandywine were the low point in Washington’s generalship,(akin to his pre-war experience at Fort Necessity), the victories in Trenton (the Delaware Crossing), and Monmouth Courthouse (where victory, or at least a tie, was salvaged from the jaws of defeat when General Lee chose to retreat) were of substantial importance in lifting the morale of the army and establishing Washington’s leadership. And Valley Forge, which is really the story of survival under brutal conditions, forged a bond among the band of brothers and an allegiance to Washington that never subsided among the men. Comment on the setbacks at NY, Ft. Washington and Brandywine as well as the victories at Trenton and Monmouth and the survival at Valley Forge. What impact did these events have on Washington and on perceptions (good and bad) of his leadership? What impact did they have on the American army, and the revolutionary cause?

2.Chernow’s book provides a distasteful glimpse into the backstabbing and subterfuge that George Washington faced as General of the army. Amazingly, some of the individuals closest to Washington, such as Joseph Reed, were, in Chernow’s view, guilty of treachery and deception. Others had little ground for questioning Washington’s leadership other than to advance their own overt ambition through rivalry and subterfuge –as in the case of the imperious General, Charles Lee—who reached a fitting demise (p. 267) and brigadier Thomas Conway, whom Washington despised. Even Richard Henry Lee sniped at Washington behind his back. And General Horatio Gates more overtly appeared to hope that Washington would falter so that Gates himself could take command of the Army. Chernow points out that Thomas Mifflin, once an aide to Washington, “harbored a secret animosity toward his patron.”  With friends like these, who needs enemies? Perhaps the worst case is Benedict Arnold, a man that Washington thought was beyond reproach, who ended up conspiring with the British to not only take over West Point, but to capture Washington himself.

A man of less fortitude and inner confidence than Washington possessed likely would not have survived the ordeals and challenges that he faced from confidants, subordinates and even members of Congress. It was bad enough that the British did not respect the American Army or its officers, but to face internal criticism, bordering on insubordination, surely created some bitterness in Washington and made the challenges he faced even more monumental as in Lee’s failure to honor Washington’s request for reinforcements in New Jersey. Comment on the trials and tribulations that Washington faced with his rivals.

3.On the brighter side of the ledger, Washington clearly had scores of supporters who believed strongly in his leadership and sensed his greatness long before his fame became universal. Among the earlier influences that were important to Washington were his half-brother Lawrence and his neighbor, Col. Fairfax. During the war many others stood proudly by Washington’s side –among them Nathanael Greene, Captain Alexander Hamilton, and of course, Washington’s great good friend, the Marquis de Lafayette. And politically, supporters like John Adams, despite private doubts, stood by Washington while many in Congress moved to dismiss him as General of the Army. Discuss these men and their support of Washington even during his darkest hours as General. In what ways did Washington have a special relationship with each of these men?

4.Drawing on Chernow, the chapter by Forrest McDonald, and class discussion, what were some of Washington’s key innovations and precedents as President of the United States? How and why did Washington emphasize the formal-ceremonial role in office as President, and the importance of decorum in his institution of formal Levees, a formal parade of the nation, the Inauguration Ceremony, the State of the Union address, the submission of the first treaty to the U.S. Senate, the issuance of the Proclamation of Neutrality and the decision to withhold information from Congress concerning the Jay Treaty—a practice that we now call Executive Privilege. To what extent did Washington try to strike a balance between too much familiarity with the public, and too much aloofness in a Monarchical sense? Drawing briefly on Joseph Ellis’s chapter on Jefferson, which will be placed on Blackboard, how did Jefferson differ from Washington in his approach to the ceremonial aspects of the presidency?

5. In constitutional, political, and policy terms, how did the debates over the creation of the National Bank, the Proclamation of Neutrality, the Citizen Genet mission, and the Jay Treaty crystallize the differences between the Federalist Party of Washington and Hamilton and the Republican party of Jefferson and Madison? How did Washington’s Cabinet become a fulcrum for the important early debates over these issues? Be sure to consult Chernow on all of these policies using his index as a guide. For example, the Jay Treaty is discussed in detail on pages 729-733 and pp.740-744. This includes discussion of Washington’s use of executive privilege in the Jay Treaty which is relevant to both questions 1 and 2.

posted a question

My class discussion question needs to be answer with at least 190 words with example. I would like for it to be in your own words. If not please cite in text with reference, No plagiarism please. Doesn’t need a title page.

Class: According to the chapter reading, “Workers’ compensation insurance came into existence during the early decades of the twentieth century, when industrial accidents were very common and workers suffered from occupational illnesses at alarming rates.2 The first constitutionally acceptable workers’ compensation law was enacted in 1911. By 1920, all but six states had instituted workers’ compensation laws.3 State workers’ compensation laws are based on the principle of liability without fault4 (i.e., an employer is absolutely liable for providing benefits to employees that result from occupational disabilities or injuries, regardless of fault) (Martocchio 2017).

Comments or shares regarding Workers Compensation(WC) and Executive Compensation? Do you believe WC exist in this employment group? Explain why or why not and consider average salary.

Complete 3 page paper on CRESWELL Book Topic

Your second paper assignment will require you to write a three to five page qualitative research proposal. For this assignment, please make sure to use the Neuman book, the Creswell book, the content of the modules, and your own notes as resources for this assignment. The structure of your proposal will need to be as follows:

I. Introduction (1 to 2 paragraphs long)

The introduction section will allow you to provide a brief overview of your research problem. You will need to discuss what topic you wish to investigate and why it is important to investigate your chosen topic in this section of your proposal.

II. Problem Statement (1 paragraph)

The problem statement section will allow you to succinctly state who and/or what you will specifically examine as you conduct your research. You will also need to state a clear and precise research question that will guide your efforts in this section of the paper. Your research question must be empirically investigable.

III. Qualitative Methodology (2 to 4 paragraphs long)

You will need to accomplish the following in the qualitative methodology section of your proposal:

A. Provide a justification for your choice to use one of the five qualitative research methods. In other words, you will need to make an argument as to why you selected phenomenology, grounded theory, case study, ethnography, or narrative analysis as your method of choice.

B. Explain how the method you chose will be used to answer your research question.

C. Discuss how the other four methods you did not choose are not as well suited to investigate your research question as the method you chose. In other words, make an argument as to why your chosen qualitative method is superior to the four methods you did not choose.

IV. Non-Probability Sampling Strategy (1 to 2 paragraphs long)

In this section of the proposal you will need to make an argument in support of your choice to use one of the eight different non-probability data sampling methods to gather your sample (i.e., convenience sampling, quota sampling, purposive/judgmental sampling, snowball sampling, deviant case sampling, sequential sampling, theoretical sampling, adaptive sampling). Make sure to also identify what population your sample will be drawn from.

V. Data Collection Strategy (1 to 2 paragraphs long)

The data collection strategy section of the proposal will allow you to discuss how you plan to collect your data. Make sure to provide a justification concerning why you will either use a recording device, verbatim notes, and/or your own memory to collect your data.

VI. Ethical Considerations (1 to 2 paragraphs long)

The ethical considerations section will allow you to thoroughly discuss any and all ethical issues that are associated with your research proposal. As part of this discussion, you will need to explain how you plan to guarantee either anonymity or confidentiality of personal information to your research subjects. Make sure to also discuss the steps you will take to achieve either the anonymity of the collected data or the confidentiality of the collected data.

Arthurian Influences and Beyond Discussion

Post answers to the following:

  1. After watching the Did You Know video in the ARTmap, we see that King Arthur inspired hundreds of pieces of literature, film, and other mediums. In your opinion, is there an artwork or artifact from this module that has inspired or influenced any aspects of modern culture?
  2. Respond to at least one classmate’s post by offering additional details or ideas, a different perspective, or links to interesting, relevant articles or websites. Conclude with a question or new idea to further stimulate the discussion

classmate’s response ( After watching the Did You Know video, I believe that the artwork in Module 10 definitely is still influential in modern culture. For example, most of the artwork had strong religious emphasis. The beautiful colors and even gold (Ex: Gero Crucifix) used in these works of art still shape how many people express religion through mediums such as fashion. For example, even the 2018 Met Gala theme was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” Here, one can see a direct influence between the artwork of the early Europe and the wardrobes of those attending the Gala. Of course, now the dialogue relating to christianity is more open and fluid than in the middle ages, and the avenues of expression are wider as well. Still, though, the underlying influence of early Christian artwork is palpable in the creations and artistic interpretations of christianity today. )

Discussion Board 4

Rivers and Tides, a video about the environmental art of Andy Goldsworthy. To receive full credit, you must answer the 6 questions and respond to another student’s posting. If the link is broken, please paste the link into your browser.

You will find the first segment of this video on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7sZv4_0Fxg

Note that closed captioning is available on the lower right of the screen.

1. What two elements of Nature has the most influence on the work of Goldsworthy?

2. Describe his method for creating the first art work when he was in Nova Scotia.

3. What was the unexpected surprise for Goldsworthy at sunrise? What happens to it?

Hypothesis Testing

Before you begin I chose Scenario/Option 1. I have attached the background, numbers and information that you need to complete this. Please let me know if you need anything else.

This week you will begin working on Phase 3 of your course project. Using the same data set and variables for your selected topic that you used for phases 1 and 2, add the following information to your analysis:

  1. Discuss the process for hypothesis testing.
    1. Explain the 8 steps of hypothesis testing
    2. When performing the 8 steps for hypothesis testing, which method do you prefer; P-Value method or Critical Value method? Why?
  2. Perform the hypothesis test.

If you selected Option 1 (Salaries):

Claim: The average salary for all jobs in Minnesota is less than $65,000. Test the claim using α = 0.05 and assume your data is normally distributed and σ is unknown.

If you selected Option 2 (Patients at NLEX hospital):

Claim: The average age of all patients admitted to the hospital with infectious diseases is less than 65 years of age. Test the claim using α = 0.05 and assume your data is normally distributed and σ is unknown.

Based on your selected topic, perform and document the following steps:

    1. Write the null and alternative hypothesis symbolically and identify which hypothesis is the claim.
    2. Is the test two-tailed, left-tailed, or right-tailed? Explain.
    3. Which test statistic will you use for your hypothesis test; z-test or t-test? Explain.
    4. What is the value of the test-statistic? Show your calculation
    5. What is the P-value? Explain how you determined it
    6. What is the critical value? Explain how you calculated it
    7. What is your decision? Reject the null or do not reject the null? Explain why you made your decision including the results for your p-value and the critical value.
    8. State the final conclusion in non-technical terms.

Please show your work for the construction of the test-statistic and explain your process for finding the p-value and critical value. You may use the Equation Editor to format your calculation steps on the Word document or attach an Excel spreadsheet clearly showing each calculation for #B4 and #B5, but your answers still need to appear on the Word document. Also, be sure to number each response in your paper using the same numbers as above
