Journal – The Motorcycle Diaries – Setting

The purpose of this assignment is to examine setting rather than skimming through setting descriptions looking to get to the “action” of the story. The purpose is also to help you understand that the setting is key to both the plot and the theme of the story. In completing this assignment, you will understand that the time period of The Motorcycle Diaries (TMD) is key because of the lack of technology, means of transportation, and the political climate in South America.

Directions

  1. Read “So we understand each other” and “Forewarnings” (pp. 31 – 34)
    • Access “So we understand each other” and “Forewarnings” by clicking on Unit 6 Resources, located above this assignment.
    • Write notes on Guevara’s descriptions in these sections of setting and the imagery he uses to describe what he sees as they begin their journey.
    • Identify clues in the story that point to the time period.
  2. Find an image, using Google image search, which represents this excerpt from the memoir.
    • Be creative in your choice; it does not need to be representational, but it should evoke the feeling of adventure and beauty that the two characters are feeling and experiencing.
  3. Write one paragraph explaining or defending your choice. Use at least two quotations to support your choice. Include in-text citations and Works Cited entries for both excerpts.

1000 voters were surveyed and 39±2% of the voters agree with the president. In this example N=1000 and the margin of error (MoE) is 2%.

When
the results of a survey or poll are published, the sample size and the margin
of error are both given. For example: 1000 voters were surveyed and 39±2% of
the voters agree with the president. In this example N=1000 and the margin of
error (MoE) is 2%.

This website lists several public
opinion polls. Search the site and find a poll where the sample size and margin
of error are given. Try to find a poll dealing with a topic in your profession
or one in which you are really interested.

http://www.pollingreport.com

Determine
the following information for the selected poll results and include in your
initial post:

A.  URL
for the website

B.  Using
your own words, state the topic of the poll in a full sentence.

C.  State
the sample size and margin of error.

D.  Interpret
the results of your poll using your own words and full sentences. Note:
Depending on the question asked, your poll may have more than one poll result –
you only need to discuss one result.

E.  Looking
at the results with respect to the margin of error, do you think there is a
significant difference in the responses to the different questions being asked?

F.  What
role could sampling have played in determining these results?

week 1 Dq 1

Please wright a 100 or more answer to each question

1)  how can we have a solution-based process in place so we can make qualified decisions and communicate to others with confidence?

2) how do we manage change in the workplace our in our personal lives?  Have there been times where what we anticipated to be stressful or difficult ended up not being so and had a completely different outcome?  If we do think about and using our feeling to our advantage, would we have a different outcome if tried to stay positive and work on solutions?

3) do we have free will?  Even if we have habits that are difficult to change, can we change them if choose to? Even a quite decision to take a left or a right, as to whether we go home and or decide to go out, are we still not deciding this by free will? And, even if another person tries to persuade us to do this or that, isn’t it still up to each individual to decide what they are personally going to choose to do?
