Everyone dreads the hurricane season. When that time of year comes around, we all lock down and get ready for the harsh winds and power outages. The 2004 season started out with a bang. Large parts of the coast were torn apart as storms rolled in, one after another.
Hurricanes form when weather patterns of different temperatures run into each other and start spinning. When a cold front out in the ocean, moving in one direction, comes in contact with a warm front moving in the opposite direction, winds start. These winds start moving in circular motions. As they spin, they pick up speed. These large areas of fast-moving winds generate tornadoes that pull water up into the storm. Hurricanes have high winds with tornadoes and carry large amounts of water.
When it starts, the storm is classified as a tropical depression. As it becomes stronger, it is called a tropical storm. If the wind speeds get high enough, the tropical storm is categorized as a hurricane.
When the storm hits land, it dumps all its water, and that is when it becomes the most destructive. Some of the water soaks into the ground, but often there is more water than the land can absorb. As a result, the water quickly runs off to lower areas. These run-offs are called flash floods. Flash floods can wash away land and possessions or destroy them by filling them with water. At the same time, hurricane winds can blow over trees and power lines. With the power out, repairs are hard to make quickly. This means power can be out for a week or lon- ger. Hurricanes also bring lightning, which can cause fires in trees or houses.
During the late summer and fall of 2004, the state of Florida was hit by four major hurricanes: Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne. Each hurricane caused so much damage that it could not be repaired before the next storm hit. The damage was so bad that President Bush asked Congress for 7.1 billion dollars for repairs in Florida. Many people had to board up stores and wait in line for electric genera- tors. In addition, relief workers were sent down to Florida to help deliver meals, water, and ice.
Conclusion
The hurricane season of 2004 was more intense than previous years. This is said to be from warm temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean and a decrease in wind shear. We hope that in the future we will better be able to predict and prepare for these hurricanes.

When it comes to allocating resources, patients are supposed to come first when considering quality of care. With that said, in order to give such quality of care, equipment and technology must be operable and in good condition. There are many ethical considerations that arise when considering where the funding goes in the hospital setting. Having two x-ray machines in a hospital is important in providing quality, efficient care to the patients. However, it is not a reasonable expense to purchase a brand new machine at this time. The x-ray machine will have to be leased, cutting the price in half. Having updated equipment allows for tax benefits at the end of the year. The x-ray machine will be leased for $50 million, instead of purchasing a brand new machine for $100 million. Healthcare education is one of the most important aspects in operating a hospital. Training and certification will have to be paid for by my facility, costing $55 million. The damaged ambulance drive-in is a potential hazard to patients and the drivers. This cost will have to consumed by my facility, resulting in a $25 million expenditure. The emergency room department is an important part of hospital operations, and will need to have all costs covered. Spending $100 million on the emergency department will remain in effect. For the greater good of the patients being treated I must take into consideration the finances and time management that will be spent on caring for one cancer patient versus caring for a group of patients. I will advise the care team to come up with the most productive outcome for the cancer patient on when, where, and how to be medically treated. This cancer patient would likely be eligible for government funding and hospice care. Therefore, with the amount of team needed to be spent on the patient, it would be in the patient’s best interest to seek hospice care, as well as a cancer treatment facility with more advanced technology. As the patient seeks proper medical care in another facility, I am saving $100 million. For the greater good of the community I will be keeping the 10 patients receiving assistance in my inpatient rehabilitation center. This will prevent them from being released before they have had the proper treatment dealing with their conditions. Having a fully operating MRI in good condition is important financially, as well as for my patients. I need to have equipment that will survive many years in my facility. I will spend the $170 million to update my equipment, and buy a new MRI machine. Lastly, the two elderly patients will not undergo hip replacement surgery in my facility. Why It Is Important to Have a Code of Conduct

Business ethics and codes of conduct help employees to understand the morally acceptable way to conduct business and to interact with customers or colleagues. The problems of business ethics were fairly laid out and standards well established by the late 1980’s, however, as we enter the new millennium one of the central tasks facing those in business ethics is to move into the Information Age (DeGeorge, 2000). As managers, we have to adapt our company’s code of conduct and ethics to meet the changes occurring within society as move into a technology driven time. Some changes will need to include social media, internet usage, and cell phone usage.

By following the code of conduct, you are given guidelines for what is deemed morally correct and sound, therefore, leading business decisions down the path of moral and sound practice. The code of ethics is set forth to help guide us into decisions we should make to benefit ourselves as well as our employers and customers. When making ethical decisions for the implementation of information systems, we can know we are doing what is right to secure personal information of possibly thousands of people. We are working ethically to protect their money as well as their identities.

Computers and information technology are transforming the way we work, the way we live, the way we learn, and the way society works (DeGeorge, 2000). Most codes of conduct policies address the way employees use the internet as well as personal and professional email. Internet usage should be limited to websites used for business purposes and that have been deemed secure by IT professionals. This will limit the risks associated with cybercrimes and hacking. The use of personal email should also limited as this is a way for viruses to filter through and into the information systems of a company. When using professional email it is important to use encryption software when sending email. Encrypting an email which is leaving your network server can help protect the information of the company as well as the customers who may be discussed in the email.

The vast majority of ethics policies as well as code of conduct policies address the same ideas. Many companies are now expanding both of these policies to include technology and internet usage because both are a major part of how we live and work. Subsumption ethics have been incorporated into many information systems and therefore forgotten by employees (Brooks, 2010). These small components of ethics allow the machine to make the decisions based on the data already built in to the machine. As long as IT professionals keep the subsumption data up to date within the machine, I believe this is an excellent way to reduce the risk of human error and decision making.
