Ethical Dilemma in Research of Mandated Contraception in Pharmaceutical Research at Catholic Medical Institutions

-describe the research discussed in the article.

Ethical Dilemma of Mandated Contraception in Pharmaceutical Research at Catholic Medical Institutions

-Identify and describe the ethical dilemma discussed in the article and discuss why it is considered an ethical dilemma.

-Identify and explain how the APA Code of Ethics addresses this ethical dilemma. Be specific in your explanation.

-Discuss what insights you have gained from researching this paper and how you might apply what you have learned to future research in which you might be engaged

The Catholic Church proscribes methods of birth control other than sexual abstinence. Although the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recognizes abstinence as an acceptable method of birth control in research studies, some pharmaceutical companies mandate the use of artificial contraceptive techniques to avoid pregnancy as a condition for participation in their studies. These requirements are unacceptable at Catholic health care institutions, leading to conflicts among institutional review boards, clinical investigators, and sponsors. Subjects may feel coerced by such mandates to adopt contraceptive techniques inconsistent with their personal situation and beliefs; women committed to celibacy or who engage exclusively in non-heterosexual activities are negatively impacted. We propose principles to insure informed consent to safeguard the rights of research subjects at Catholic institutions while mitigating this ethical conflict. At the same time, our proposal respects the interests of pharmaceutical research agencies and Catholic moral precepts, and fully abides by regulatory guidance.

Read the following questions (3 in total) and answer – BUSINESS LAW

Quality Car & Truck Leasing, Inc. v. Sark

Michael Sark operated a logging business as a sole proprietorship. To acquire equipment for the business, Sark (and his wife, Paula) borrowed money from Quality Car & Truck Leasing, Inc. When the business encountered financial difficulties, Sark became unable to pay his creditors, including Quality. The Sarks sold their house (valued at $203,500) to their son Michael Jr. for one dollar but continued to live in it. Three months later, Quality obtained a judgment against the Sarks for $150,481.85 and then filed a claim to set aside the transfer of the house to Michael Jr. as a fraudulent conveyance. The court issued a decision in Quality’s favor. The Sarks appealed, arguing that they were not actually Quality’s debtors.

A state intermediate appellate court affirmed. The Sarks “are clearly judgment debtors to Quality Leasing and the judgment has not been satisfied.”

Please answer the following questions:

  1. What advantages and disadvantages are associated with the sole proprietorship?
  2. What might the Sarks have done to avoid this dispute, as well as the loss of their home and their apparently declining business?
  3. Why did the Sarks take the unethical step of fraudulently conveying their home to their son? What should they have done instead?

505 discussion 6

505 week 6 discussion

Discussion

Your active participation in the weekly Discussion is important to the shared learning experience. Active discussion also develops our community of budding counselors, therapists, and researchers. Please participate as early in the week as possible, and be sure to share your thoughts and ideas as often as you can throughout the unit.

Address the topics. Your original response should be at least 350 words and should reflect the fact that you have completed the assigned readings for the week. Remember, this is your chance to illustrate not only your understanding, but also your mastery of the materials for the unit. Use your words wisely so the posting has substance and includes examples and explanations. Limit the use of direct quotes, and do your best to critically evaluate and synthesize the literature in your own words wherever possible. Make sure to include in-text citations and a reference list as appropriate.

1) Evidence of Intelligence [1 of 2] ( 350 word )

Pick someone well-known whom you believe to be “intelligent.” Everyone has to pick someone different, so first come, first served!

But, be careful. You will also discuss in detail, using scholarly/academic resources to support your observations, why exactly you believe this person to be intelligent. What did he or she display that has been empirically linked to intelligence? What kinds of evidence would you provide for your argument that this individual is intelligent? Be sure to include references and specifics regarding your observations.

2) Cognitive Functioning [2 of 2] ( 350 words)

In your specialty area, imagine that you received a referral from a colleague for a psychological assessment concentrating on cognitive functioning.

Create a referral question, for example, “Please assess this individual in terms of his/her ability to participate in and benefit from an inpatient substance abuse rehabilitation program.”

Pick the appropriate instrument for a specific client among the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale IV (WAIS-IV), the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children IV (WISC-IV), or the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence-III (WPPSI-III).

Describe the client’s demographics, for example, “38-year-old divorced female…”

Employing the correct instrument for the client and the referral question, briefly review each of the subscales in terms of:

1.  What are they believed to measure?

2.  How, specifically, would each score contribute information that would answer the referral question?

Software Design Specifics

Once designers have defined what the operating environment will be within your chosen key assignment company, you will need to identify the problems with the current system as it may not be fulfilling the client’s operational objectives. The software may not have been designed and implemented with the proper user interfaces, may not be capable of handling certain user data inputs, may be too slow, or cannot provide the required outputs for the user. Describe the following:

  • Functional issues associated with your identified project and how you convert these problems into software/system objectives revolve around the designer’s ability to identify problems with the functional I/O of the software in place, or issues may be related to performance, architecture, interfaces, hardware, security, communications
  • Various elements you considered in defining your objectives (system security; ease of future modification and expansion; program needs; allowable operational changes; costs; level of effort; time schedules; and reliability, sustainability, and availability)

Provide the sections above, and ensure this is added to your Week 1 project along with any instructor recommendations. This project therefore should be a consolidated project from week to week. Ensure the rules of APA format are followed.
