Community Violence in the U.S.

In the increasingly violent times that the U.S. is experiencing, it has been observed that children in some areas are terrorized by street violence. Gang warfare can easily turn a quiet neighborhood into a war zone, where children might become inadvertent victims. Although some children can’t cope with the fear, a few are able to rise above it and confidently move ahead.

What are risk factors for children to become involved in gang activity?

Describe some of the effects of gang violence on children.

Describe some of the characteristics of children who grow stronger by surviving in these environments.

Discuss how parents in these neighborhoods could foster these characteristics in growing children.

Write your initial response to each part in 3–4 paragraphs.

Analyze your volunteer experience by writing a 1,000-1,250 word reflection focused on your volunteer experience. Examine how volunteering enabled you to practice the principles of servant leadership. Reference and address the following in the paper.

1. Summarize your servant leadership volunteer opportunity by sharing the who, what, when, where, why, and how of the experience.
2. Which of Greenleaf’s principles of servant leadership did you implement and learn the most about through completing the servant leadership experience? Provide examples in your discussion.
3. Both Greenleaf and the biblical passages referenced in the various Topic Materials focus on the idea that power comes from giving it away and that taking the role of a servant can make one a leader. Discuss whether or not your servant leadership volunteer opportunity helped you to find yourself as a leader in this way. Provide supporting examples.
4. Use examples from your servant leadership volunteer opportunity to discuss the idea that serving others as a leader might influence change or produce a positive impact for the greater good.
5. Think about your personal leadership skills and style and discuss what your learned about yourself as a servant leader from completing the volunteer opportunity.
6. Looking forward, how will you use what you have learned about the principles of servant leadership in your workplace, organizations with which you are involved, and in your personal life?

This discussion focuses on the material in Module 3. You will use the example of Dell in Unit 1 page 8. We will be analyzing three different customer groups for Dell: individual consumers, small businesses (employees 100 or less), and a global organization (employees 5,000 or more). Pretend you are the marketing manager for Dell. Using the concepts from Units 1-3, answer each question below:

Question 1. Develop an ideal customer profile for each of the three Dell customer groups. Go beyond demographics!

Question 2. Develop a buyer persona for Dell’s small business customer. Follow the examples provided in Unit 3. Remember that this is a ‘business’ customer.

Question 3. For the global organization customer profile, propose (and explain why) effective touch points for each of the 3 stages of the customer’s decision-making process: awareness, consideration and decision. You can use Unit 1, pages 5 and 6 to guide you. The goal is to describe the touch points (interactions) that would generate the greatest value to the customer and to Dell. Keep in mind that each of these interactions costs Dell money so you want to get the biggest return on your marketing investment.

Question 4. How can Dell ‘identify’ or recognize the individual consumer each time the customer comes into contact with Dell? What unique identifier can Dell use (Module 3 Unit 3, pages 8-9)?

Question 5. How can Dell ‘hear’ the voice of the individual consumer? What do they do with what they learn about this customer group? See Module 3, Unit 2, pages 8-10.

Assignment 2: Workplace Ethics

Overview

This assignment will
give you the opportunity to choose a case study, and then write about the
ethical implications and the impact of the events that are described. Each case
study includes a set of questions that you should answer. You can choose either
Case Study 9.1: Unprofessional Conduct, or Case Study 8.4: Have Gun Will
Travel. 

You will be graded on the following criteria:

Write a four
to six (4-6) page paper in which you:

1. Analyze the questions associated
   with your chosen case study and discuss them using concepts you learned in this
   course.

2. Explain your rationale
   for each of your answers to your chosen case study.

3. Format your assignment
   according to the following formatting requirements:

   1. Typed, double spaced,
      using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.

   2. Include a cover page
      containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s
      name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the
      required page length.

   3. Cite your textbook as
      a reference.

   4. Include a reference
      page. Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is
      not included in the required page length.

Case 8.4: Have Gun, Will Travel…to WorkLocated on page 312 of

1. Do you have not only a
   legal, but a moral right to own a gun? Do you believe that you have either a
   moral or a legal right to park a car with a loaded gun in a privately owned
   parking lot, regardless of what the lot’s owner wants?

2. In your view, do
   employees have either a moral or a legal right to park cars with guns in them
   in the company parking lot? What do you believe should be the property rights
   and safety concerns of employers?

3. Do you think state
   legislatures are right to get involved, or should the matter be left to
   companies and employees to settle? 

4. Because the workplace
   is the company’s private property, the company could choose to allow employees to
   bring guns not only into the parking lot, but also into the workplace itself.
   Are there ever circumstances in which doing so might be reasonable? Or would
   the presence of guns automatically violate the rights of other employees to be
   guaranteed a safe working environment?

Awareness  of Your Cultural Heritage

Briefly describe your and your family’s (either birth or adopted) cultural heritage (for example, your paternal grandparents immigrated to the United States from Italy, and your maternal grandparents emigrated from Ireland).

Does your family have one or more religious or spiritual traditions?

What aspects of your cultural heritage have resulted in privileges or discrimination and oppression for you and your family?

Strategies to Overcome Your Cultural Competence Limitations

Identify and describe at least one strategy to address each of the aspects of multicultural competence (awareness, knowledge, skill) that would be important to apply in ensuring that you eliminate barriers to competent counseling practices that may come from your own cultural characteristics, attitudes, and beliefs

Just some thoughts down regarding my mother, grandmother and aunts thought systems based on their background and history.  For instance you know margaret didn’t even like white people in her house.  And how the family was taught to control or hate Men.  Mother ended up having 3 kids but decided she was gay. Mother hates all men especially men that are light skinned.  Mother controlled all 3 of the daughters relationships including financial and how the men were treated.  Oldest daughter becaame addicted to drugs and was promiscuous was molested at a young age and had 3/kids of her own.  Mother.damaged her because she was incapable of making real world decisions on her own.  Muddle daughter was always told she was pretty and she escaped when she was 18 off to college. Married j to a dominant jamacain family but accepts the fact that she is in charge andnher husband does what she says.  She has no string relationship with mother looks at oldest sister as mother figure for obvious reasons.  Also mother was drug addict and made oldest daughter take care of house and kids from 10/and up.  Also had sex with kldest friends and oldest was first given drigs from mother which strung her out.  Youngest in her early 49 now takes care of men in jai and lives with mother.  Mother.babies her because if guilt.  Youngest was left with boyfriend at age. 16 pregnant and living with boyfriend drug dealer that mother controlled.
