Drama Research Paper Question

Drama Paper: Mini-research paper (4-5 pages, Times Roman 12, double-spaced)

In this paper, as in our previous assignments, you will be doing a close reading, but with two differences: (1) this paper asks you to examine two works and compare/contrast them, and (2) this paper requires research.  In this paper, you will compare and contrast Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll House.  Your larger purpose in comparing/contrasting them is to consider the concept of tragedy.  Your thesis should make an assertion about the nature of tragedy in both works.

This paper will address the following questions:

  • How are these two plays different?  Do these differences tell us something about the nature of tragedy?
  • How are these two plays similar?  Do these similarities tell us something about the nature of tragedy, or about the difference between Shakespearean drama and “modern” theater?

In this assignment, you are confined to discussing these two plays, but within this framework, you are free to choose what order to address these questions in and how to create a thesis that focuses your discussion.  Feel free to emphasize comparison and de-emphasize contrast or vice-versa, as long as in some way you have done both.  Be sure to give equal time to both plays, however.

It is also up to you how to use research in this paper.  My recommendation is that you use it to bolster your discussion of tragedy, drawing from scholarly sources to create your definitions, but you may also want to use articles on the plays themselves to help with your readings.  This is fine, as long as the following conditions are met:

  1. All sources must be cited correctly using MLA documentation.  This includes (1) in-text citations and (2) a Works Cited page.
  2. You must use at least five sources.  There is no maximum: if you would like to include more sources, that’s fine, but since our objective is close reading, it’s definitely not necessary.

Length: This is a lot of material to cover in 4-5 pages.  This means you need to be very concise.  Do not go over five pages!  Less is more.

Research the Effects that Culture Can Play on Personality Development

In the U.S., a psychologist cannot deny that different cultures (including ethnicity, age, gender, religion, and sexual affiliation) play a role in personality development.

Consider all you have learned throughout this course as well as how your culture has shaped your personality development. Use the Internet, Argosy University library resources, and your textbook to research the effects that cultures can play on personality development. Answer the following questions:

  • What aspects of your cultural upbringing have affected your own personality development?
  • Think about a friend who grew up in a different culture—how did their cultural upbringing and traditions affect their personality development in a way that differed from your upbringing?
  • Considering everything you have learned in this course, how would you now analyze your own personality? Relate this to the theories of personality development that apply in your case. How will you use these new competencies in your work and personal life?

Write your initial response in 2-3 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources, and use vocabulary that reflects your understanding of the concepts covered throughout the course.

False Memories

: LASA 1: False Memories

The US legal system places a lot of importance on eyewitness memory. Most people would report that they can accurately convey what they saw in a particular situation. However, these ideas are not supported by research. Instead, research shows that memory is quite malleable and is affected by many factors. This research repeatedly demonstrates that people do not remember exactly what they experienced. This module’s experiment will show you firsthand how memory for events is not always one hundred percent accurate.

Access the CogLab demonstration False Memory. Follow the instructions to complete the demonstration to familiarize yourself with false memory. Then locate at least one research study from a peer-reviewed journal that examined how eyewitness memory can be affected by false memories.

Based on your research, respond to the following situation:

You are considered to be an expert in false memories, and a local district attorney has therefore requested your expertise on the following case:

On Tuesday, March 6, 2007, a bank was robbed in Slidell, LA. It was just after opening time, 9:04 a.m., and there were barely any customers, when a car arrived and parked in the side parking lot of the bank. Two men came out of the car and walked to the entrance. Both wore dark clothing. Upon entering the bank, they held out guns and asked for the manager. When the manager identified herself, the smaller of the two robbers ordered her to open the safe. Meanwhile, the other robber, a tall, and burley man, walked around holding his gun in his outstretched arm, and threatening the remaining employees and customers. The manager complied and the smaller robber collected all the money and valuables from the safe. After five minutes, the big robber asked if his companion was ready to go. When he was, the two ran back to their car, and drove away.

The district attorney has asked that you create a presentation about false memory and explain how it might influence this case. He asks that you specifically address the following:

  • Describe false memory and false memory experiments. Use the CogLab experiment to illustrate false memory experiments, special distracters, and normal distracters.
  • Describe at least one research study from a peer-reviewed journal that investigated how eyewitness memory can be affected by false memories.
  • Explain how false memory might influence this particular case. Use specifics from the description of the case, the CogLab experiment, and research to support your answer.
  • Using evidence from the case, the CogLab experiment, and outside research, justify why eyewitness testimonies should or should not carry weight in criminal proceedings.
  • Discuss any procedures which can increase or reduce the occurrence of false memories when reporting eyewitness events.

Remember, your presentation is designed to help the jury understand false memory and how it might influence the eyewitness testimony of this case. You will have ten minutes to present.

Since this is a legal case, you must include formally written slide notes (proper grammar, proper paragraphs, APA formatting, and academic tone) with research to support your claims. The presentation will be a legal document in this case, so make it worthy of being legally binding!

Develop an 5–6-slide presentation in PowerPoint format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M3_A2.ppt

Please fellow the grading criteria to ensure good grade:

Social Work Course, discussion help

DISCUSSION POST # 1

Nina is a thirteen year old that has faced lots of environmental and possibly physical abuse. She comes from a country of violence, sexual abuse, and drugs. Her language may also be a barrier for the social worker. The separation from her family who is still in her old country plays a big part of how she may development and the constant wonder of how they are doing could be seriously harming Nina mentally and emotionally. She is now having problems at school. The family she is living with now could assist the social worker with the current changes they see in Nina. Ms. Jenkins is dealing with a difficult situation that many social workers face. She does not speak the Q’eqchi language and her decision of how to help Nina must be an ethical decision for the best interest for Nina as well as focus on her family.

The NASW Code of Ethics must be followed in this matter. The social worker must protect and serve Nina despite all of these issues that are present. Nina’s well-being is very important when addressing NASW Code of Ethics. It would be best that Ms. Jenkins get in contact some kind of way with Nina’s former social worker. Nina has good rapport with her former social worker so if she could contact the social worker maybe she could get advice on what to do about Nina’s case. The social worker will need to follow The NASW Code of Ethics in this case to ensure that Nina is well served and that she is comfortable releasing information to her.

Cournoyer, Barry R. (2014). The Social Work Skills Workbook (7th Ed.). Belmont, CA: Brooks/ Cole

DISCUSSION POST #2

Social Workers are often faced with higher caseloads. In the vignette, their is limited funding and their is only one social worker in the school system with 5000 children. The funds are provided by a school board committee. With Nina being a 13 year old Guatemalan female, she is being faced with several problems that needs attention. Nina is being introduced to a new environment with different types of races. With Nina being displaced from her family in search of a better life, Nina has to overcome some major some major barriers with getting accustomed to another environment as well as learning how to speak another language.

Nina lived in a property stricken 3rd world country. Nina parents are poor and , making a living by farming. Being sent unaccompanied across the boarder, Nina was exposed to drugs, sex, violence, and a unstable government. With Nina being placed in a home in Texas and not knowing how to speak fluent English, Nina was placed with barriers on her life. Nina felt alone and out of the place. The fact is not denied that Nina was willing to come to the United States in search of a better life. Nina did develop a positive relationship with the social worker at the home.

The ethical decision making process was used by the social worker at the Texas home so that Nina could be placed with relatives instead of in a home with people she did not know. The social worker needs to use the ethical decision making model to determine Nina’s needs and personal values. Nina has being exposed to ethical dilemmas because he previous social worker has not informed Nina’s current social worker of Nina’s background. Nina is also faced with an ethical dilemma because she do not want to have another social worker. With Nina not wanting to switch social workers, Nina is being exposed to self harm because she is not ready for change. Let’s keep in mind that Nina is 13 years old, so she does have that right to voice her own opinion about her personal life.

As a social worker, the code of ethics should be used so that Nina can be protected. Nina is considered a vulnerable child so the code of ethics should be used to understanding the underlying problems of Nina and what can be done to develop a positive relationship with Nina. Mrs Jenkins does have a high case load, being the only social worker in a school system of 5,000 children. With the social services program being slowly funded, Mrs. Jenkins is limited on resources. As a social worker, Mrs. Jenkins has to put on many helps to work with the resources she has to ensure that Nina and the other children are being provided with help and whatever other resources are available. To help Nina, Mrs. Jenkins could also reach out to Nina’s previous social to obtain known information about Nina.

Module 3: Discussion Forum

Section 61 indicates that gross income “from whatever source derived” is taxable. Select a type of income that you know to be taxable under Section 61 and prepare a cogent, academic, policy argument for why it should not be taxed. Be sure to incorporate the following elements:

  1. Your cogent, academic, policy argument
  2. How Adam Smith’s elements of taxation are impacted by the decision to not tax the type of income you picked.
  3. Who in society will win or lose based on the change in policy.
  4. At least one unintended consequence of the change in policy.

Your initial posting should be 250-500 words.

Please ensure to include your citations. Thank you.
