Discussion: Merchandising Operations and Inventory

“Walmart”

Using the Annual Report of your selected company answer the following questions in the Discussion:

  • What is the value of the company’s inventory at year end?
  • What was the amount of cost of goods sold for the year?
  • What income statement format does the company use? Explain.
  • Compute the company’s gross profit percentage for the year end.
  • Did the gross profit percentage improve, worsen, or hold steady?
  • How does the company’s gross profit percentage compare to the industry?
  • What are the company’s inventory turnover and days sales in inventory for the year end? Is there anything interesting to note about these ratios?

If your company is a service company, please find a different company that would have inventory, perhaps a supplier to your selected company. Then answer the questions shown above. Be sure to state what company and supply a link to the information. You may use a service such as Yahoo Finance to help research industry averages. The notes to the financial statements will also be of use in answering the discussion questions. For many of the ratios in the discussion, you will need 2-3 years’ worth of financial data.

Please use Walmart thank you !!!!!!!

Design your own assignment in which you implement five acts of kindness (prosocial behavior). Use your discretion, common sense, and modesty at all times. Do not put yourself in an environment of potential danger or harm.

Write a paper of 500 words, in which you:

  1. Describe your implementation of kindness: what did you do, how did you approach the idea, where did you implement it and to whom?
  2. Describe the reactions you perceived from others and yourself.
  3. Describe what you learned about prosocial behavior from this exercise. Compare the actual application of the behavior relative to this topic material.
  4. If you are a faith-based person, explain how your faith helped you implement your helping behavior. If you are not a faith-based person, explain what philosophy, belief system, or values you connected to helping behavior.

When writing in APA style, it is important that your analysis is written in third person. Writing in third person helps with clarity and conciseness throughout your paper. Philosophers such as Vygotsky, Piaget, Charles Darwin and etc. helped pave the foundation of today’s education. Saying that, Piaget theory is one that I can more so relate to. “Piaget’s theory of cognitive development explains how a child constructs a mental model of the world.” I believe as an educator, we should hold students to high standards and provide them with assistance to help them reach their goals. According to the text, “teachers must know how to adapt instruction to students’ levels of knowledge. Effectiveness of instruction depends on time needed and time actually spent learning” (Slavin,2009). By meeting the needs of individual students, provides them with the mindset to stay on track toward success.

Teachers should plan so the students are able to grasp and make progress before they complete assignments independently. Teachers should also present the lesson with the end in mind. According to the teacher’s planning it will determine the outcome of the lesson that is taught. “The first step in presenting it in such a way that the reasons for teaching and learning the lessons are clear” (Slavin,2009). I believe that students learn best from hands on activities. The more engaged a lesson is for a student, the more he or she learns. For example, I taught a lesson about place value.

In my class room, I instill integrity into my students. I want them to always be conscious about the decisions they make. “To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice” (Proverbs 21:3). The first week of school I discuss integrity with my students. I inform them that they should do the “right thing” although no one maybe present. Throughout, the school year I uphold them to be responsible at all times. Over the years I have learned that the students have more respect for each other because, they have a foundation to stand on.

Labor and Employee Relations, presentation help

15-slide presentation; a minimum of 13 slides must contain speaker notes of 150–200 words

Weekly tasks or assignments (Individual or Group Projects) will be due by Monday, and late submissions will be assigned a late penalty in accordance with the late penalty policy found in the syllabus. NOTE: All submission posting times are based on midnight Central Time.

After spending some time observing the day-to-day operations of Elora Jean & Co., you have noticed a trend in employee and labor relations issues. These issues include perceived unfair treatment from managers, distress over disciplinary actions, and anxiety about new human resources (HR) policies.

Aware of the union and nonunion entities within Elora Jean & Co., you have observed that the production supervisors are unclear on the facility’s union grievance procedures, and the nonproduction supervisors are unclear on how to handle employee concerns in their offices. Employees often feel that they do not have the means to fully voice their concerns. With this level of confusion on grievance procedures, employee morale and performance has begun to decline, affecting Elora Jean & Co.’s ability to stay competitive.

As the HR consultant, you see an opportunity to educate Elora Jean & Co.’s management team on grievance practices. You decide to review guidelines on dispute resolution and grievance procedures and prepare a presentation for the company’s owner.

Prepare a presentation on developing a work climate in which grievances are a last resort and how to properly address them when they do occur. Your presentation should include the following components:

  • Include recommendations on a strategy that Elora Jean & Co. can incorporate to proactively avoid grievances. Your recommendation should include a way to create an environment in which employee issues are identified and addressed before they move into a formal grievance process. Recommendations for creating positive employee relations should be discussed.
  • Include recommendations for a dispute resolution process for the nonunion offices. Your proposal should include a sample procedure for nonunion employees to follow when complaints arise.
  • Present step-by-step guidelines for handling grievances in the production facility. Your presentation should include recommendations for investigating complaints, working effectively with union representatives, and summarizing supervisor responsibilities. Include cautions about actions to avoid when handling grievances.
  • Include a proposal for training to educate the line managers on handling grievances and avoiding grievances to ensure violations do not occur. Specifically, discuss the areas that such training should cover.

Note: The 15-slide presentation should include a minimum of 13 slides with speaker notes of 150–200 words. The title slide and reference slide do not have to have speaker notes.

IT Support for Virtual Teams, Assignment 3 help

Global organizations have branches that are located in multiple countries. Some of these organizations develop software and take advantage of the global talent pool of software developers while others have global technical support teams, customer service, and so on. Virtual teams are created when two or more people work together from different locations, organizations, times zone, and / or time shifts. Global organizations use virtual teams in order to provide global support, reduce travel costs, reduce training costs, and take advantage of local cultural knowledge that may impact the organization’s operations.

Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:
1.  Examine five (5) issues that the IT department is likely to face when it comes to supporting virtual teams.
2.  Create an architectural diagram that shows how the virtual teams would collaborate and access common repositories for documents, software, development, and testing facilities. Use Visio or an equivalent such as Dia. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.
3.  Describe five (5) advantages and five (5) disadvantages of using virtual teams for the organizations described in the scenario.
4.  Describe challenges imposed by:
          a. IT / IS national standards and propose how they could be handled or resolved.

b. protocols and propose how they could be handled or resolved.
c. procedures on virtual teams and propose how they could be handled or resolved.

5.  Compare and contrast virtual teams and traditional teams with respect to communications, technology use, and team diversity.
6.  Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
  • Include charts or diagrams created in Visio or an equivalent such as Dia. The completed diagrams / charts must be imported into the Word document before the paper is submitted.

Data Analysis

This week’s focus is on institutional discrimination, or discrimination that may or may not be intentional and occurs within the context of, and as a result of policies and practices within, society’s core institutions, such as the workplace, the educational system, and the criminal justice system. For this assignment, you will focus on using data to determine the extent to which institutional discrimination occurs within the criminal justice system. In particular, you will assess one of the key arguments regarding institutional discrimination within the justice system: that U.S. criminal justice policies and practices in place as a result of the “War On Drugs” since the 1980s have disproportionately affected racial and ethnic minorities.

To complete this assignment, follow the steps below, pasting or typing the questions into a Microsoft Word document and responding to each question with thought and detail. Include a title page and a reference page in correct APA format. Incorporate in-text citations when you refer to the course material.

  1. To get started, first review data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), located in the Resources. The survey is a part of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive, provided by the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research. When you select one of the options, such as heroin use, you can then specify how the data is presented. To see statistics for heroin use based on race and ethnicity, select the “Heroin Use” link. Then select the following options in the drop-down lists:
    • Measure of Heroin Use: Select “Ever Used Heroin” first. Then select the other options to create additional graphs and charts as you would like.
    • Respondent Characteristics: Select “Race and Ethnicity.”
    • Confidence intervals: Use the default option, “(None displayed).”
    • Chart Options: Choose any of the options for viewing the chart, depending on how you would like the data to appear.
  2. Repeat this procedure for the other illegal drugs on the list, including marijuana (illegal in most states), crack, and cocaine. You can open each table in a new tab in your browser, which makes it easier to compare the data.

Based on your review of the data, answer the following questions. Be sure to use specific data from the NSDUH charts and graphs to illustrate your points. Identify the name of the tables or graphs (for example, “Ever Used Heroin by Race” is the title of the table and graph produced when you followed the initial steps above).

Question 1: Describe differences in illegal drug use based on race and ethnicity. Which racial and ethnic groups are most likely to use each illegal drug? Your response should contain at least 150 words.

  3. Next, take a look at drug arrests by race and ethnicity. This data is available on the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports Web site in their annual report, “Crime in the United States.” For the 2013 data on arrests, go to Persons Arrested, which is located in the Resources. You will see a list of table numbers on this page. Tables 43, 49, 55, 61, and 67 show data that include categories for race and ethnicity. Click on each table number to see the full tabular data. You will need to scroll down each table to look for the line labeled “Drug abuse violations.” Note that Table 43 provides the overall national picture regarding drug abuse arrests, while the other tables provide specific regional data based on the classifications of cities, counties, suburbs, and nonmetropolitan areas.

Based on your review of this data, answer the following questions. Be sure to use specific data from the FBI tables to support your points and clearly identify which tables you are referring to by specifying the table number.

Question 2: Describe differences in drug arrests based on race and ethnicity. Which racial and ethnic groups are most likely to be arrested for drug abuse violations? Your response should contain at least 150 words.

Question 3: Compare and contrast the data on drug use with drug arrests. What factors account for the discrepancy between who uses illegal drugs and who is arrested for drug abuse violations? To what extent have public policies or law enforcement strategies contributed to this disparity? Use at least one of this unit’s course readings to support your response. Your response should contain at least 250 words.

Question 4: What impact have the disparities you identified in Question 3 had on minorities and minority communities? What policy changes would you recommend for addressing these disparities? Discuss at least two potential solutions or strategies; these can be community-based, legislative (at the state or federal level), or law enforcement strategies. Your response should contain at least 250 words.

Requirements

  • Describe and analyze trends related to drug use and drug arrests based on race and ethnicity.
  • Address the connection between criminal justice policies and strategies and the racial and ethnic disparities in drug use and arrest rates.
  • Explain the impact of racial disparities in drug use and arrest rates on minority groups and communities and identify ways to address these disparities.
  • Refer to and cite the course material in correct APA format.
  • Ensure responses meet the minimum indicated word counts, with a total length of approximately 2–3 pages.

Assignment 3: Business-Level and Corporate-Level Strategies

Choose an industry you have not yet written about in this course, and one publicly traded corporation within that industry. Research the company on its own Website, the public filings on the Securities and Exchange Commission EDGAR database (http://www.sec.gov/edgar.shtml), in the University’s online databases, and any other sources you can find. The annual report will often provide insights that can help address some of these questions.

Write a six to eight (6-8) page paper in which you:

  1. Analyze the business-level strategies for the corporation you chose to determine the business-level strategy you think is most important to the long-term success of the firm and whether or not you judge this to be a good choice. Justify your opinion.
  2. Analyze the corporate-level strategies for the corporation you chose to determine the corporate-level strategy you think is most important to the long-term success of the firm and whether or not you judge this to be a good choice. Justify your opinion.
  3. Analyze the competitive environment to determine the corporation’s most significant competitor.  Compare their strategies at each level and evaluate which company you think is most likely to be successful in the long term. Justify your choice.
  4. Determine whether your choice from Question 3 would differ in slow-cycle and fast-cycle markets.
  5. Use at least three (3) quality references. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not quality as academic resources.
