2 pages response to one video and one article

As people, we have all had experiences that have influenced us, social groups we belong to, ideals we admire and strive to achieve, values we believe in and hold dear. All of these things shape the way that we see those around us, how we judge them, consider what they need and want, as well as what might be best for them, or “healthiest” for them. Where we see ourselves, where others see us and put us, and how we got to this position is part of our positionality, which is rooted in our ideology and the ideological principles of our culture.

In order to be good public health educators/professionals/programmers/researcher, it is critical that we spend time being reflexive and acknowledging our own positions, particularly if ours is a position of power over someone else. Which, as a public health professional, is usually the case, since people respect and listen to the “experts.”

So, for this assignment, please read the attached article on unpacking white privilege and watch the video on privilege

Write a response paper (2 pages) thinking about the following things:

  • 1) What did you think of the article and video? Did you agree with it? Did anything jump out at you from it? Is there anything that concerns you? What did you learn?
  • 2) Write 1-2 paragraphs describing your own positionality. Tell me about all of the ways you identify yourself, all of the groups you think you are a part of. For example: how do you identify your race, gender, religion, interests, cultural traditions, passions, hobbies.
  • 3) What are some of the areas where you experience privilege and possibly judge or oppress others; or where you can see how you are oppressed or judged because of your sex, race, sexual orientation, cultural traditions or other variables.
  • 4) How could your positionality influence your work in public health? Provide some specific examples.

Weekly Discussion

For this discussion, you will address the following prompts:

  • Identify the global societal issue you have chosen to research for your Final Paper (Gender Inequality) , an argumentative essay, and explain why further research on this topic is important.
  • Provide a clear and concise thesis statement that includes a solution to the global societal issue (see Writing a Thesis Statement (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. for assistance).
  • Explain how this global societal issue impacts a specific population.

Locate a peer-reviewed scholarly source and provide statistical data that you found surprising on the topic.

Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length, which should include a thorough response to each prompt. You are required to provide in-text citations of applicable required reading materials and/or any other outside sources you use to support your claims. Provide full reference entries of all sources cited at the end of your response. Please use correct APA format when writing in-text citations

Methods of Neuroscience Investigation

This discussion is an analysis of the methods used by neuroscience
investigators to study the biological basis of psychological function.
Prior to completing your initial post, complete this week’s readings in
your course textbook and watch Multicellular Organisms and their Nervous Systems and Discovering the Human Brain:  New pathways to Neuroscience, with Susan Bookheimer, PhD.
These materials examine various investigational methods such as imaging
technology, laboratory science techniques, and special studies that
provide information about structure (nervous system anatomy and cellular
structure) and function (nervous system and cellular function).
Evaluate the methods described and select one method you think is the
most powerful or useful for examining the relationship between biology
and behavior. Would this method be best used for basic research, initial
diagnosis of a clinical condition, ongoing patient management, or a
combination of these analytic practices? What part of the nervous system
(anatomical structure, function, cellular chemistry and function) would
most likely be studied using this technique? Elaborate on the
investigational method you chose and the target systems or conditions
you have identified to be studied by this technique.

You must use a minimum of one peer-reviewed source that was published
within the last five years, documented in APA style, as outlined in the
Ashford Writing Center. Your post should be a minimum of 250 words. You
may cite and reference your textbook, required reading, and/or
multimedia, but these will not fulfill the source requirement.

Violence in the Media

Introduction

The impact of the media on violence is an area of ongoing debate. This media includes, but is not limited to, video games, movies, and news reporting. The debate focuses on the way media influences or promotes the general acceptance of violent behavior in society, including the focus on long-term psychological effects that violent media may have on the development of children. One group may argue that violence in media needs to be censored while another group may argue that censorship is a means to mask other possible causes of violent behavior.

Instructions

Using the Capella library resources and the Internet, select and read at least two recognized (within the field of psychology or criminal justice) articles to support your position on media violence.

In your main post:

  • Analyze the impact of multiple media on violence in society.
  • Examine whether violence in media promotes the normalization of aggression, the desensitization to violence, the committing of violent acts, or a lack of empathy in children and perhaps even adults. Why or why not?
  • List any psychological or social theories that support your position.
  • Discuss how violence in media impacts, involves, and is relevant to the criminal justice system and the determining of dispositions.

This is a discussion post, which isn’t a full paper.

Please include at least 2 references.

Political Science Essay and Discussion Post Chapter 7 Media

The media play a critical role in a democratic society. At the same time it is almost impossible to absorb all of the information now available from all kinds of sources.

One enduring question about the media is whether it “creates” the news, the information that people receive, or only “reports” what is happening. That is, how significant is the media in creating the terms and conditions, creating the issues and controversies of American political life? Do the media “objectively” report the news and let individuals make their own evaluation or judgment or, especially with so many ways of communicating–broadcast, print, Internet–is there a media agenda that makes it difficult for people to recognize fact from opinion? How can an individual sort all of this out to be properly informed about politics and government? This is especially important during a presidential election year when voters must decide their choice for president for the next four years.

NOTE: Media is the plural and medium is the singular, meaning just one part of the media such as television, radio or newspapers.. It can be confusing but just be consistent in your essay. It might be a bit mixed in the above paragraph but I hope you understand the meaning.

The American media system is varied, complex and constantly changing. What was mostly newspapers, magazines, radio and television now encompasses digital technologies that provide the means by which to instantly receive and send information. Indeed, today, unlike in the past, there are limitless channels of information available.

Chapter 7 reviews the various types of media including broadcast, print and Internet-based information. Review “Traditional Media” which begins on page 259. Then beginning on page 267, the text explores the importance of the “New Media and Online News” as a resource and focus of information and communication. Beginning on page 289 there is a discussion of the federal regulation of broadcast media as well as the continued concentration of traditional media outlets.

The Chapter then discusses the way in which the news is covered and the controversies of “media bias” that tends to drive so much of the discussion of American politics. That is why the section, “Media Influence” which begins on page 279 is relevant and valuable as a means by which to evaluate the role of the media in America and the important role individuals have in being prepared to understand and evaluate the information they receive. This is especially true during a presidential election as in 2012 and 2016 which has consequences for American political life in many ways.

For this assignment, please review the previous statement and then write an essa

It was not until the women’s movement of the 1960s and 1970s that the voices of those being abused were heard. The battered women’s movement emerged, becoming one of the most powerful social justice and service movements in United States history.

In 1994, The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) was passed. VAWA was a major federal bill that provided more than $1 billion to be used to assist battered women’s shelters, train law enforcement personnel and judges, and support other crime-prevention efforts addressing violence against women.

Consider the following statement: “The role of the victim of domestic violence has helped shape criminal justice responses.”

For this assignment, please review the previous statement and then write an essay that either supports or opposes this statement. Base your response on your reading and review of the textbook and presentation in the Week Five Learning Activities area. Use outside resources as needed.

HUM/105 – WORLD MYTHOLOGY Version 3

Original question: “In general, how do the gods and goddesses described in the myths resemble human men and women? How do they differ? Are the similarities and differences important to their divine status? Explain why or why not, using supporting examples from your text.”

Original work only, internet and copied work will not get receive payment!!!

Please respond to each part (120-150 each)

PART1:

I believe that the gods and goddesses that are described in the myths are similar to people in many ways.  For instance, after reading various stories about the fire goddess Pele, I discovered a lot of human characteristics that she had such as impulsive, unstable, and passionate. Leonard and McClure (2004) mentions different human characteristic s by stating that her skin was rugged and black and that her hair was the color of cinders. The way the book describes her skin and hair color makes me associated her with a human person.  Leonard and McClure (2004) goes on and describes her looks after she came out the pit of fire stating that she looked like a lovely woman no longer being a hag. Just like humans the fire of goddess has family members, Leonard and McClure (2004) denotes that Pele has several sisters. In addition, Pele and her sisters also eat and sleep which is another comparison to human beings.  Her similarities to humans are recognized through her human characteristics just like other gods and goddesses. The differences between Pele and other gods and goddesses are revealed with their remarkable powers.

PART2:

There are many stories about how the Greek gods behaved and interacted with human, and these myths were even used to help explain the unknown and sometimes teach a lesson.  The Greeks created gods in the image of human, and their gods had many human qualities.  For example, the gods constantly fought among themselves, behaved irrationally and unfairly, and were even often jealous of each other.  Zeus was rarely faithful to his wife, while Hera would plot against and even punish Zeus and his mistresses.  The gods were emotional and sometimes behaved immoral; their religion also did not have a standard set of morals, there were no Judaic Ten Commandments (US history, 2014).
I feel that there are many similarities from the gods to humans and I feel that these Greek stories were told so that the people of Greece and Athens had something to look up to and so that their behavior would be more like the gods that they worshiped, but that being said I also feel that all though there were gods that many worshiped there were also those who believed in their own ways of doing things that these were just stories and they were free to feel the way they chose.  I also feel that even though these were Greek gods, many of these behaviors flooded many other regions and beliefs and many other individuals believed in the myths of Greek gods no matter where they resided.

Whats in it for me

Tim Trainer is asked to create a fun training environment. The business leader wants the employees to enjoy their working life and make sure that they feel fulfilled and rewarded at the after a training experience — the key to improved performance. In order to do so, Tim thought it was important to survey them and find out what a “fun” training is and to use this knowledge to develop a plan and implement an effective strategy. Unfortunately for Tim, the business leader chose to go on what he believed would create a fun and engaging training. He built a large training room with all the latest tech gadgets and cool ways of interacting with information, the training was held, but the performance didn’t improve. Tim then suggested that they go back to assess the situation and learn about the WIIFM for the employees and what delivering for application meant to them.

It uncovered a quite different story, the employees wanted:

  • To feel valued and that they are recognized for a job well done.
  • To make a difference for others
  • To have the opportunity to learn and grow through education and experiences
  • To have good balance among their professional and personal responsibilities
  • To be included and to be able to be appreciated for diverse thought, and
  • At the end of the day, feel satisfied, fulfilled, and enjoy what they do.

After knowing what the WIIFM is for the employees what are your suggestions for Tim? Remember to use limitations of memory, cognitive overload and diminished learning when answering the “Why?” for the learner.

The requirements below must be met for your paper to be accepted and graded:

  • Write between 1,250 – 1,750 words (approximately 3 – 5 pages) using Microsoft Word in APA style, see example below.
