Internal Auditing

The chief financial officer at Barrington is concerned if the new accounting information system is compliant with the new laws enacted by the U.S. Congress, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. The CFO has requested that you and your team research both acts and prepare a report for the executive staff based on your findings. Along with the report, he wants the team to make a presentation to the executive staff highlighting how the team has satisfied these requirements in the design of the new AIS.

  • Research the Library and available resources
  • Write a report of 1,000–3,000 words on:
    • The purpose of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA)
    • The purpose of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002
    • The impact both acts have had on
      • Publicly held companies and
      • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) firms.
  • Combine both of these acts into the new AIS for both the domestic and foreign operations of Barrington.
  • Discuss the FCPA as it governs Barrington’s foreign operations.

The hypocrisy of this form of treating people

Feedback from the discussion on crack cocaine and powder cocaine.

Rosa,

This is an interesting post. I disagree with putting substance abusers in prison at all, so tend to disagree that someone who cannot afford cocaine that buys crack cocaine should have a harsher penalty then one who happens to be higher on the socio-economic status. Frankly if the prevailing opinion in the treatment world is that addiction is a brain disease then why are we not treating these individuals for their disease? I am not opposed to mandated treatment long-term through the courts, but I am opposed to warehousing our mentally ill substance abusing people in prison. Thoughts on the hypocrisy of this form of treating people with issues like this?

Style particular form design

Time: 25 minutes

Begin Monday’s lesson by freewriting on the definition of style. What is style? Begin by writing about your own personal definition of style. Does style play a role in your life or the way that you view the world? How so? What does a person’s “style” say about them? What would we be without style? Do you think the place where you grew up, or the way that you were raised, has any impact on your personal style? How so? How might this apply to people who did not grow up where you grew up?

Then: How does this apply to writing style?

You have been selected to open two subsidiaries of organization XYZ. The headquarters of the organization is in the KSA. The organization is dedicated to the production of mobile devices. One of these new subsidiaries will be located in Mexico and the other one will be located in Denmark.

As you can see in the image below, which is from Hofstede’s Cultural Dimension Theory, there are differences and similarities among the countries. Leaders should attempt to understand these differences to create effective organizational strategies. Specifically, these cultural dimensions can help leaders determine business approaches, how to address negotiations, and can aid in creating strong management and leadership styles.

In additional to Hofstede’s Cultural Dimension Theory, the GLOBE research has identified six global leadership behaviors that are considered important in different cultures. These leadership behaviors are as follows:

  • Charismatic/ Value-Based
  • Team-Oriented
  • Participative
  • Humane-Oriented
  • Autonomous
  • Self-Protective

Now, thinking about the above information:

  1. Based on Hofstede’s cultural dimensions, briefly describe the similarities and differences between the dimensions in Denmark, the KSA, and Mexico.
  2. Analyze how the cultural dimensions of the three countries (i.e., Denmark, the KSA, and Mexico) impact leadership styles, leadership behaviors, and the decision-making process of leaders. What factors most greatly impact leadership qualities?
  3. Explain which type of leadership behaviors, based on the GLOBE research, should be understood and how these leadership behaviors may impact the different cultures (Mexico and Denmark).
  4. Explain why it is important for leaders to understand cultural differences before doing business in other countries.

Return on Investment (ROI)

Unit 8 Assignment: Return on Investment (ROI)
In this Assignment, you will apply ROI to a specific organization’s training, you will use a cost-benefit
analysis as a means of determining whether or not an organization should implement a specific
training program, and you will identify a potential training program of value to the organization.
You will apply ROI to a specific organization. Training programs are expensive and the companies
want to know what to expect in terms of a ROI if the training is completed.
Select an organization that you are sufficiently positioned with to get the information you need
for this Assignment. It could be a company you have worked with or a nonprofit organization
with which you have had some experience. It will be more difficult to complete the Assignment
if you select an organization where you are an outsider, unable to gather the needed
information.
You will use a cost-benefit analysis as a means of determining whether or not an organization should
implement a specific training program. The cost-benefit analysis will indicate the potential value of the
training program under consideration.
You will also identify a potential training program of value to the organization. (This could be any type
of training: Employee orientation, safety, quality, customer service, operations, and sales. Take a look
at Figure 1.4 on page 43 for ideas on different types of training provided by companies.) Then,
complete a cost-benefit analysis. You will then make a recommendation to the organization on how to
proceed with this potential training program. Tables 6.11 and 6.12 provide an example of how to do
this.
Worksheet: Use the ROI Worksheet for this Assignment. This worksheet is also available in
Course Resources.
