On July 5, 2005, Dr. Smriti Nalwa took her nine-year-old son and six-year-old daughter to Great America amusement park in California, where they went on the park’s Rue le Dodge bumper car ride. The ride consisted of small, two-seat, electrically powered vehicles that moved around a flat surface. Each car was ringed with a rubber bumper and had a padded interior and seatbelts for both driver and passenger. The driver of each car controlled its steering and acceleration. Nalwa rode as a passenger in a bumper car her son drove, while her daughter drove a car by herself. The bumper car in which Nalwa was riding was bumped from the front and then from behind. Feeling a need to brace herself, the plaintiff put her hand on the car’s “dashboard.” According to her son, “something like cracked” before his mother cried out; her wrist was fractured. The Rue le Dodge ride was inspected annually for safety by state safety regulators, and was inspected daily by the park’s maintenance and ride operations staff. On the morning of Nalwa’s injury, the ride was found to be working normally. Although other injuries had been reported in 2004 and 2005, Nalwa’s was the only fracture reported. Nalwa brought a personal injury lawsuit against the owner/operator of the park.

One of the more notable aspects of Moonlight is its play with narrative structure. The film obviously takes place across three periods in the life of Chiron, but I find myself wondering if traditional five-act structures exist within each segment, or maybe across the whole film.

For this discussion, map out the narrative structure of Moonlight into three or five act(s) structure or, alternatively, point out where/how the film breaks with these traditional structures and think about why it might choose to do so. Project managers often use Earned Value Management (EVM) if they want to compare the status of their projects to their project plans. Using the same project from Assignment 3, develop a project scenario to explain the amount of work that you have completed with the funds allotted.

The Size of Government

One of the most contentious issues that divide conservatives
and liberals is the size of government. 
Conservatives often argue that government has bloated beyond any
reasonable extent, while liberals frequently see a larger government role in
society — thus requiring a larger federal bureaucracy.  Do you believe that the size of the federal
bureaucracy has kept pace with the increasing demands on government?  Would Americans trade lower taxes for a much
smaller federal government, even if there was a decrease in public services for
ordinary citizens?  Are claims that the
United States is burdened by “so-called” big government mistaken, or should
government be enlarged to meet the expanding needs of a growing nation? 

Reinventing Government

Former Vice President Al Gore launched a “reinventing
government” initiative during the Clinton Administration that sought to
streamline government procedures and processes, and also sought to reduce
duplication in government personnel. 
This is hardly a new concept, as almost every presidential
administration has sought to discover more efficient ways of delivering
government services.  What ways, if any,
would you suggest to streamline the way government does business?  Would you outsource key government
services?  Should government hire
less?  Should pay be tied to performance
in the public sector?  Or, on the
contrary, do you think there needs to be a wholesale reinvention of the way
government does business?  Feel free to
be creative and to imagine ways you think government could be reinvented in the
modern age. 

After a bitter debate over how best to use American troops in World War I, it was determined that they would serve under General John J. Pershing, but accept the final strategic authority from the Allied Supreme Commander, Marshall Ferdinand Foch of France. Initially, American troops were used piecemeal to plug up holes and to drive Germans back, when possible. By 1918, American troops were fully engaged. They secured their first victory in May, at Cantigny, just north of Paris. They suffered terrible losses in June at Belleau Wood, but still claimed victory.

The real turning point came at the second Battle of the Marne, in July, where the combined efforts of the French, British, Italians, and Americans counteracted the German offensive and drove the Germans eastward. Notably, Americans soldiers, fresh to the war effort and not weighed down by years of fighting, provided a decisive edge. In the fall of 1918, Pershing lost over 100,000 men as he and the other Allied leaders continued to push the Germans back. By October 1918, Americans were behind German lines cutting supply lines, and in November 1918, Germany surrendered.

Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word paper in which you describe the specific role played by American troops in the Second Battle of the Marne, and in the months that followed between the battle and the German surrender in November 1918.
