Emerging Topics and Issues in Your Field of Study

What are the emerging topics and issues in your field of study?
Identify at least two professional associations to which practitioners
in your field might belong and review the association websites. For
example, depending on your degree program and specialization, you might
review the website of one or more of the professional associations on this list (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.,
but don’t limit yourself to the organizations on the list. Find two
professional associations that pertain specifically to your field of
study—on the list or of your own discovery—and write your assignment
based on information from those two associations. Search these websites
for information about the work of professionals in your field and for
current topics or emerging issues confronting practitioners. For
example, you might:

  • Look for topics that are addressed in conferences and workshops offered by the associations.
  • Search for white papers or position statements published by the associations.
  • Evaluate topics and themes you find in print and Internet publications or discussions sponsored by the associations.

Then, in your initial discussion post:

  • Identify which professional associations you selected, including a link to their Internet sites.
  • Briefly explain the importance of each organization to practitioners in your field.
  • Discuss the topics or emerging issues you discovered through these
associations or through the associations’ publications that seem to be
most important to practitioners in your field of study, and explain why
the topics or themes are important.
  • Identify which of the topics or emerging issues you found most compelling to you personally and professionally, and explain why.

Based on the information you gleaned from the FBI website above, discuss a statistic, study, or other fact that surprised you or has affected your community and what the numbers say about offenses against this specific protected class. What do these crimes say about our society and what steps need to be taken to prevent them?

Your initial post for each discussion should be a minimum of 250 words. Use scholarly sources to support your responses. Include citations and references in APA style.

Id, Ego, and Superego

As with personality theories, Freud’s theory and other psychoanalytic theories may be difficult to test and prove in court. Analyze Freud’s theory and discuss the impact that it has on the development of criminal behavior. What roles do the Id, Ego, and Superego play in problematic behavior, and what influence do defensive mechanisms have on the development of criminal behavior? Discuss the pros and cons of Freud’s theory and how you feel it would hold up in court.

Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims with examples from the required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references.

Legal Aspects of Healthcare delivery

Legal & Regulatory Aspects of Health Care Delivery

In some cases, the legal and regulatory environments of health care can seem like labyrinths of red tape that hinder more than help; however, with sufficient knowledge of health care regulation and legislation, you can acquire the tools needed to effectively navigate this labyrinth. Gaining an understanding of the legal and regulatory systems allows you to stay current with changes in the health care field and more easily and successfully advocate for new measures designed to improve the health of the public. Such understanding also assists you in understanding how to proceed when seeking changes to policy to address a specific population.

This week, you will examine regulatory principles and professional nursing standards. You will also analyze the effects of legal and regulatory processes on health care policy advocacy and implementation.

Learning Objectives

Students will:

Legal and Ethical Conduct

As emphasized in this week’s media presentation, all nurses need to be familiar with the laws and regulations that govern their practice: their state’s Nurse Practice Act, ANA’s Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, specialty group standards of practice, etc. In addition, basic ethical principles guide nurses’ decision-making process every day. ANA’s Code of Ethics and ANA’s Social Policy Statement are two important documents that outline nurses’ ethical responsibilities to their patients, themselves, and their profession. This said, there is a dilemma: The laws are not always compatible with the ethical positions nurses sometimes take. This week’s Discussion focuses on such a dilemma.

To prepare:

Review this week’s Learning Resources, focusing on the information in the media presentation about the relationship between the law and ethics.

Consider the ethical responsibility of nurses in ensuring patient autonomy, beneficence, non-malfeasance, and justice.

Read the following scenario:

Lena is a community health care nurse who works exclusively with HIV-positive and AIDS patients. As a part of her job, she evaluates new cases and reviews confidential information about these patients. In the course of one of these reviews, Lena learns that her sister’s boyfriend has tested HIV positive. Lena would like to protect her sister from harm and begins to consider how her sister can find out about her boyfriend’s health status.

Consult at least two resources to help you establish Lena’s legal and ethical position. These resources might include your state’s Nurse Practice Act, the ANA’s Code of Ethics, ANA’s Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, and internal or external standards of care.

Consider what action you would take if you were Lena and why.

Determine whether the law and the ANA’s standards support or conflict with that action.

WRITE a description of the actions you would take in this situation, and why. Justify these actions by referencing appropriate laws, ethical standards, and professional guidelines.

Critical Response Essay

You should write a one page essay for each of the following 2 questions. Your essays should be double-spaced, 1-inch margins, 12-point font. If possible, print on both sides of one sheet of paper. If not, staple two pages together. Don’t use a cover page or any sort of binder or folder. The top of each page should include your name, the date, and your section number. You don’t need a title and don’t rewrite the question. Give sources you found in papers for each question

1. Last week, a 19-year-old former student entered a high school in Florida and killed 17 people using an AR-15 assault rifle. Incidents like this one have been happening in the U.S. with alarming frequency since the 1999 murders at Columbine High School.

If you were a member of Congress and a Utilitarian, what sort of legislation would you propose to prevent these tragedies? How would you explain your reasoning to your fellow members of Congress?

2. For the last several months, a number of famous and powerful men (and at least one woman) have been accused of sexual harassment and sexual assault. At the same time, many other famous people have been accused of knowing that the harassment and assaults were taking place but failing to speak out to defend the victims.

If you were a Deontologist, and you knew that these incidents were taking place, would you feel obligated to speak out? Explain why or why not using the Categorical Imperative.

This is for my Managerial Accounting 102 class Project.

Managerial Accounting Project

For this project, you will create the accounting portions of a business plan using an assortment of tools presented in the course. You will select a business that is of interest to you or that you would like to start. You may use an existing business as long as you concisely discuss its founding process. Your paper should be in Chicago format (suggested length: 10-11 pages) and include at least two quality references. Note: Wikipedia, blogs, and social media do not qualify as academic resources. One of the references can be our textbook.( Introduction to managerial accounting 7th edition, Peter C. Brewer,Ray H. Garrison, Eric W. Noreen)

To start, write 1-2 pages that describe:

• Why you selected this business
• Some basic information about the business’s market, location, and competition
• Why you think this business would be profitable
• How your financial decisions will affect the business

After this introductory portion, you will create the financial plan. Requirements for your final project are as follows:

1. Startup Cost Analysis

In this section, you will include a detailed list of how much it will cost to start the business. This should include most, if not all, of the following: cost of property, buildings, machinery, equipment, planning, legal fees, consulting fees, and one year of operational costs.

2. Cost/Benefit Analysis

In this section, you will perform an analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the business. Determine if your business is a sound investment decision (justification/feasibility) by conducting a SWOT analysis, and compare the total expected cost (disadvantages) of each against the total expected benefits (advantages) to see whether the benefits outweigh the costs and by how much.

3. Breakeven Analysis

In this section, you will perform a basic breakeven analysis. Estimate basic variable and fixed costs that will accrue in operations, and then compare this to how much revenue (units that need to be sold) is needed to cover these costs. This should include your basic operational costs (e.g. salaries, rent, utilities, product costs, etc.). Be sure to include calculations and a graph showing your breakeven analysis.

4. Cost-Volume-Profit (CVP) Analysis

In this section, you will perform a CVP analysis and investigate the outside factors that may influence your breakeven point. Identify 2-4 qualitative factors that can vary between your base case (the breakeven analysis) and changes to this base case. You also need to weigh the pros/cons of each of the outside factors. These outside factors can include changes of location, changes in competition, or changes in outside market factors (e.g. stock market, oil prices, commodities, or anything that can affect revenue for your business). Be sure to include calculations and graphs for CVP analysis.

5. Pro-Forma Financial Statements

In this section, you will create pro-forma financial statements in which you will estimate the financial operations of your business. This will include a pro-forma income statement, pro-forma statement of cash flows, and a pro-forma balance sheet. For each of these, project out for three years (all three years can be listed on one statement). Although these values are estimations, they can help predict how successful the business will be.

6. Discussion

Based on the results of your analyses, discuss whether the business will be as profitable as you first expected. Briefly explain why (or why not) and what can be done to improve the possible outcome.

Please upload your paper using a pdf format.

Cultural Competence

Cultural Competence

For this assignment, you will refer to the section “Course Case Study.” Reread the case study, looking specifically at issues related to cultural competence. Examine the ACA’s and APA’s ethical guidelines related to the issue of cultural competence and respond to the following:

  • Describe the ethical issues related to cultural competence.
  • Examine the influence of your own personal values as related to the diversity issues presented in this case. Reflect on how you felt as you read the case study, how your values came into play, and how you would handle your values in a situation such as this.
  • Make recommendations based on your readings and the APA or ACA ethics codes.
  • Be sure to apply specific ethical principles
  •  Your response should be at least 2 pages long.

Case Study 1: Applying Theory to Practice

Due Week 4 and worth 130 points

Social scientists have proposed a number of theories to explain juvenile delinquency. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses. For this assignment, go to the following Website, located at http://listverse.com/2011/05/14/top-10-young-killers/ and select one of the juvenile case studies.

Eric Smith

January 22, 1980

You may think I’m a threat to the well-being of society. And I can understand why you would feel that way. The fact is that I’m not. I’d be an asset to society.”

At 13, Eric Smith was bullied because of his thick glasses, freckles, long red hair and one other quality: He had protruding, elongated ears. These were believed to be a side effect of medicine his mother had taken for her epilepsy when she was pregnant. Police charged Smith with the murder of a four-year-old boy named Derrick Robie. The younger child had been strangled, had large rocks dropped on his head, and had been sodomized with a small stick. When asked why he did it, Smith cannot give a definite answer. A psychiatrist diagnosed Smith with intermittent explosive disorder, a condition in which a person cannot control inner rage. Smith was convicted and went to prison. As of today, he’s been in prison for six years and has been denied parole five times.

After reading the case, select one (1) of the psychological theories discussed in Chapter 4 of the text.

Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:

  1. Summarize three (3) key aspects of the juvenile case study that you selected.
  2. Highlight at least three (3) factors that you believe are important for one to understand the origins of the juvenile’s delinquent behavior.
  3. Apply at least two (2) concepts from the theory that you chose from the text that would help explain the juvenile’s behavior.
  4. Identify one (1) appropriate strategy geared toward preventing delinquency that is consistent with the theory you chose.
  5. Use at least three (3) quality references. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • This course requires use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The format is different than other Strayer University courses. Please take a moment to review the SWS documentation for details.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Differentiate between various theoretical explanations for delinquent behavior.
  • Illustrate how social factors such as gender, racial and ethnic background, and social class relate to delinquency.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in juvenile delinquency and justice.
  • Write clearly and concisely about juvenile delinquency and justice using proper writing mechanics.

Grading for this assignment will be based on answer quality, logic / organization of the paper, and language and writing skills, using the following rubric found here.
