Please choose (at least) one of these topics, and search for at least 3 quotations connected to it/them. Then, take some time to explain what you felt Momaday was saying, and how you felt about it. You don’t need to make an argument, per se, but you should translate and react. How do his ideas translate (or not translate) to your life? Why did you pick that specific idea to focus on? What about his words shocked, fascinated, or perplexed you. Did you see a gap, a tension, an ambiguity, a difficulty, a contradiction? How/why?

This week’s reading assignments include chapters relating to the provision of psychological treatments in correctional settings. Chapter 12 discusses the findings of Boothby & Clements (2000) survey of psychologists working in state and federal correctional facilities across the U.S. Increasingly, the prison populations reflect a high number of inmates suffering from identified mental illnesses. This presents issues for corrections personnel who are responsible for the safety of prisoners as well as the safety of staff. The goals of the correctional psychological service providers may not be consistent with the overall goals of the institution. The mental health status of offenders impacts staffing considerations, both in number and in skills, of incarceration facilities. Large populations of inmates with mental health issues can impact the stress levels of staff, which can influence their job performance as well as their interpersonal relationships.

Address the following points in your paper

• Discuss the impacts of the psychological make–up of offenders has on the functional responsibilities of incarceration facilities.
• Discuss how the biases and assumptions of correctional service providers influence their assessment of and interaction with these offenders.

The medical field receives a great deal of funding for research. Identify one technology that has greatly affected the medical field in the past 5 years. How can emerging technologies in the medical field create social problems? Why are some of them so controversial?

Pick one person among the 3 faiths and describe one key event or teaching that makes them stand out and why.

So you may either do a a a paper of 1000 words ( 4 pages). Or, you may do a PowerPoint presentation of 6 slides, with details in the note section, critiquing the topic there.

Remember, I want a ‘critique’ of your views and not just description, which ever method you present. I want your judgments to the best position that should be taken.

That would include your opinion in an introductory paragraph or the first slide that states your purpose for your choice, your thesis view (overall judgment of your topic, and areas that will be addressed).

PP or Paper:

1) Have a purpose statement: what do you intend to achieve with your selection.

2) Have a thesis comment, also known, as your judgment on the topic; that is to say, your view point. If contrasting two faiths, which stands out and impressed you the most.

3) List your supporting evidence, or areas that will be addressed that supports yours thesis view. Really do not tackle a broad topic but narrow it down.

And in subject header, on your PP or Paper, some idea of your topic when you submit it.

If a PP, please remember the slide should have an introduction, thesis or viewpoint; and areas of discussion. Just list them if a slide, and comment in the note section. If paper, a thesis comment, and just the areas that will be addressed. No need to amplify in the introductory element. And if you do PP presentation, bear in mind 6 by 6 guideline. Generally try to have no more than 6 words across and 6 lines down of information. Detail should be note section.

If a paper, transitional elements are important and I believe there still is some kind of ‘certificate of origin’ indicating your own work.

Also, ‘please critique’. I do not want a bunch of copy and paste material describing your content. Use it only to form the basis a critique on each key idea. What is your view of it; does it support your overall, thesis. Do you agree or disagree and why. It may even be wise to use the term, ‘ critique’ on a slide in the note section or paragraph or two as a sub header in your paper. This is important. I want your view, and not just a bunch of information.
