Research Methods 20 &21

This is an ongoing research assignment. Please use attachments to complete.

Assignment 20

Using the articles from your quantitative paper and qualitative paper create a chart to provide a visual graphic of how the variables or criteria both quantitative and qualitative align with the selected theory in response to the research question. Add two studies using a mixed methods approach. Note quantitative data is generally statistical for these purposes and qualitative will describe what is happening. Select those factors that are relevant using both approaches. Restate research question or establish two questions. Articulate the applicability to the chart.

Submit chart using points of emphasis above. 1 or 2 pages.

On a separate document labeled assignment 21:

Submit Mixed Methods Studies Paper: Write a 3-5 page paper using three quantitative, three qualitative, and two mixed methods articles using the chart designed in Activity 16. Refine the chart as needed to reflect the focus of your paper. Include charts, tables, and graphs as an appendix at the end of the paper.

The main purpose for this activity is to present an issue via the exploration of clear factors and applicable theory as they relate to your research interest. This academic discourse will allow you to use your critical thinking skills to analyze the different factors and then draw conclusions based on the evidence you present.

Prepare a 3-5 page mixed methods paper on your specific topic of interest. Assert your research question and applicable theory. Then present your evidence to best support the point you want to make.   Use the following outline: Provide an introduction (include research question, applicable theory, and introduce the key areas of your study. Assert clear talking points. How the literature is presented should be clear.Present your evidence in a methodical manner as highlighted in your introduction.Provide a discussion of the two perspectives regarding the selected predominate factor and link to the applicable theory based on the articles you presented.  Use both quantitative and qualitative studies. Do not cut and paste from previous papers. This should be a synthesized draft. Finally, draw conclusions based on what you have presented. What recommendations can you make based on the evidence you present?Again, include the chart or table from Activity 16 to reflect the relationship of the factors you have identified to the theory and how they are important. Include the chart or table as an appendix to your paper. Your discussion does not include the cover page, references, or appendices.

Submit paper of your discussion using points of emphasis above. 3-5 pages include charts as appendices.

Assignment: School Counseling Scenario: Using Feminist and Social Justice Theories

For this Assignment, read and select one of the following scenarios:

Scenario 1:

Lena is a 15-year-old student of Arabic descent who has come in to see you as a required component of her incoming freshman orientation. She is prepared to discuss her academic goals and her post-high school aspirations. She tends to talk more about what others expect of her, as compared to what she desires for herself. In talking with her more, she expresses that she would like to pursue a teaching degree in early childhood education, but her parents expect her to pursue another career path that is more consistent with others in her family. Her teachers characterize her as a “pleaser” who goes out of her way to seek others’ approval and who rarely asserts herself. When asked, she reports that she has never shared her personal dreams with her family for fear that it would displease them. She admits that she sometimes feels conflicted between what others want for her and what she wants for herself.

Scenario 2:

The high school boys’ basketball coach stops in your office to discuss concerns about Joe, a junior in high school and a starting athlete on the team. He discusses his awareness around Joe’s slipping grades and indicates concern that he will have to sit out the upcoming game unless he can pull up his chemistry grade. Joe identifies as biracial and comes from a single-parent home. He indicates that finding time to study is difficult while balancing basketball with a part-time job he maintains on weekends to help out his family. He shares that he “hates chemistry,” “shouldn’t have to take such a hard class,” and is uncomfortable asking the teacher for help. He is worried that if he fails the next chemistry exam he will be kicked off the basketball team. He expresses anger and frustration, and he states that it “doesn’t seem fair.”

Review the learning resources. Think about how either a feminist, empowerment, or family theoretical approach can be applied to support the student in the scenario.

In a 2- to 3-page paper (APA), analyze a scenario using a feminist, empowerment, or family theoretical approach. You may choose only one theory and you must justify your choice. Be sure to include the following: The theory you chose and why. Be sure to discuss how you conceptualize/ explain the student’s issues using theoretical components.
The considerations that need to be taken into account from a developmental and/or cultural perspective.
The overall counseling goal with the student, from your chosen theoretical perspective.
The specific strategies and/or techniques you would use with the student based upon your chosen theoretical approach. You should note at least two interventions from the chosen theoretical perspective.
The strengths and limitations to using this approach with the student in a school setting.

ETHICS: 2 PGS paper

You are to select a moral issue you find compelling?capital punishment, pacifism, abortion, what have you?except this one will feature a utilitarian argument about some contemporary moral problem.  Then you are to assess that argument.  Your paper should, then, be structured like this:
a)      Some people grant that capital punishment causes distress and pain to the capital criminal, but say that the criminal has earned his suffering.  This is a deontological argument in favor of c.p.
b)      Here?s what deontology is.  La la la.
c)      Here?s what I think about this deontological justification for capital punishment.  La la la.

week 10 final project

Gender dynamics manifest in families, schools, workplaces–anywhere that humans interact socially. As you explored throughout the course, theories to explain gender development and gender roles have grown in number, as has the body of research to explain the causes and effects of these gender dynamics.

Part of Walden University’s mission is to create scholar-practitioners committed to social change. There is tremendous potential for social change related gender-based issues, and will be as long as achievement gaps, discrimination, abuse, and inequalities persist throughout the world. This week you complete and submit your Final Project, which should be not just a literature review of a topic, but also contain proposals for how to foster positive social change related to the topic.

To prepare

· Be sure to incorporate any Instructor feedback that you received on the outline you submitted in Week 7 (if you have not done so already).

· Search the Walden Library and other reputable academic sources to locate literature related to the gender-related topic you selected.

Based on the outline you submitted in Week 7, write an 8- to 10-page paper (including title page and references) in which you do the following:

· Introduce and summarize key literature about your selected topic. Include in your summary how this topic relates to home, school, and/or work environments.

· Explain the challenges surrounding the topic. This may include challenges related to conducting research and/or how the gender topic you selected impacts individuals or society.

· Provide solutions or strategies to address the challenges related to the topic.

· Evaluate each of your proposed solutions and provide final recommendations that have opportunities for positive social change.

The impact of toys on gender identity development in children

I choose this topic because it is the most familiar one in our lives and that at one point we had gone through the similar experience especially when it came to toys selection.

Toys are the major assets own by the children in our environment. We find that children like toys very much but careful when it comes to selection based on the child’s gender. Boys concentrate more on toys resembling engine powered machines like tracks, bikes, and trains while the girls focus more on care toys like for example dolls, utensils and general cleanliness (Todd, et al., 2018).

Toys impact the children psychology by creating this idea that they both should play with specific kinds of toys and grow up believing and exhibiting the same approach to other kids younger than them (Todd, Barry, & Thommessen, 2017). This trend and belief are so apparent that anyone just by looking at the toys in a given household can determine the child’s gender.
