Writing Assignment 2

Read the “Hot in Developmental Science: Is there Still a Sexual Double Standard?” on page 246 of your book.  Do you think the sexual double standard is a real issue?  Has it been blown out of proportion? And if it is an issue, who is more guilty of perpetuating it, men or women?  Are there any other factors/sources that perpetuate this perception in our society – parents, media, etc.?  Also consider that this issue has several layers of complexity; for example: the different perceptions between casual sex and committed sex.  Book reference:American Psychological Association. Relationship Building

  Relationship Building

Remember: This course has major project assignments that will be due in weeks 3 and 5. It will take more than a week’s effort to adequately complete them. Plan time to start the research and other work for those assignments earlier than the week in which they are due.

Although relationship-building is relevant to either domestic or international negotiation, it takes on increased importance in many multi-cultural negotiations due to how various cultures assess the importance of relationship to the negotiation process. For this assignment, you will be researching and evaluating relationship-building in international negotiation.

For the first part of your paper, provide two researched definitions of negotiation and evaluate whether relationship-building is a substantive part of the definitions. Include a possible edit of a negotiation definition to enhance the place of relationship-building. Defend your edits with research.

Next, assess some of the social and economic consequences for failing to concentrate on relationship-building while negotiating with someone (individual, delegation, or country) that perceives relationship to be an important part of the process. Your assessment in this section should apply to both a negotiation event as well as larger leadership activities.

Next, analyze some of the important indicators to being culturally sensitive to relationship needs or concerns (and other needs and concerns as might be appropriate) in a negotiation. What would be seen? What would be heard?

Finally, defend three best practices or recommendations for leaders to enhance relationship building in international negotiation and global leadership activities. Make sure to defend your recommendations with research.
Submission Details: Submit your paper as a 3 page paper

prevention

Establishing connections with fact and sound reasoning, distinguish between the prevention of a disorder and the promotion of wellness as the overall goal of a community program. Include 2 facts for the overall positive goal and 2 facts which could indicate limitations for the prevention of a disorder and the promotion of wellness within the community program. Be sure to explain your factual connections with cited examples

Discussion 1: Looking From a Theoretical Lens Perspective

The language of qualitative research can be confusing. The words sound like regular English, but they have very particular meanings. To make the language even more complicated, the definitions can vary across different qualitative methodological scholars.

For the purpose of this course, distinctions between two important concepts should be considered:

1. Theoretical framework: the use of constructs and propositions a recognized theory (or theories) to a research problem, purpose, and question.

o Examples: Social Influence theory, transformational leadership theory, game theory

1. Conceptual framework: the construction of ideas, assumptions, and beliefs sourced in both the literature and one’s own experience, which identify the main concepts that guide the formulation of the research problem, purpose, and question.

o Examples: Concepts from positive psychology, mindfulness meditation, language development models

To prepare for this Discussion:

· Review the Learning Resources related to the use of a theoretical or conceptual framework to guide the examination of a research problem in qualitative research. By Day 3

Post an explanation of the role of a theoretical or conceptual framework in qualitative research and provide examples from the resources you read. Use proper APA format and citations to support your post. By Day 5

· Chapter 2, “Using Conceptual Frameworks in Research” (pp. 33–63)

· Chapter 3, “Critical Qualitative Research Design” (pp. 65–110) (focus on pp. 85–89)

· Chapter 1, “Listening, Hearing, and Sharing” (pp. 1–11)

· Chapter 2, “Research Philosophy and Qualitative Interviews” (pp. 13–24)

Discussion 2: Theoretical and Conceptual Frameworks

After reading and considering the differences and similarities between theoretical and conceptual frameworks from different sources, the next step is to consider what type of theoretical or conceptual framework would be appropriate for your topic of interest.

Please note that this is not always easy or obvious, as it is a rare event to find a theory or concept paper that exactly mirrors your topic. Consult with the Walden Library to be creative with keywords and search strategies that will generate a scholarly article (or articles) appropriate to your topic.

For this Discussion, you will examine the theoretical and conceptual frameworks in qualitative research.

To prepare for this Discussion:

· Review the Grant and Osanloo article related to conceptual and theoretical frameworks found in the Learning Resources and consider how a conceptual framework differs from a theoretical framework.

· Use the Course Guide and Assignment Help to help you search for a research article on your topic of interest that uses a theoretical or conceptual framework. (Note: This can be the same article as the one you will use for your Annotated Bibliography in this week’s Assignment.)  By Day 4

Post an explanation of how Grant and Osanloo (2014) describe the differences between conceptual and a theoretical framework. Support your explanation with examples from the article as well as from your texts.

Be sure to support your main post and response post with reference to the week’s Learning Resources and other scholarly evidence in APA style.
