Write a 5–6-page assessment in which you reflect on the results of self-assessment and self-inventory exercises, articulate your professional goals and career plans, and write an action plan for implementing those goals and plans.

This undergraduate psychology program offered you instruction throughout the broad spectrum of the science of psychology. Its content covered approaches to understanding the complexities of human behavior and thought through a framework of knowledge, skills, and values identified by the APA as fundamental in the undergraduate study of psychology.

Preparation

To prepare for this assessment, complete the Work Values Card Sort and Career Inventory Checklist media, linked in the Resources under the Required Resources heading. Instructions

Write a 5–6-page assessment in which you complete the following: Create a title page: Give your paper a title that reflects the purpose of your work. It is suggested that you use the APA Paper Template, linked in the Resources under the APA Resources heading, to format your paper according to the APA manual (current edition). Write an introduction: For the introduction section of your paper, include the title at the top of the first page. (In APA format, the word Introduction is not used as a heading.) Briefly summarize the key components of your paper. Create a heading titled Assessment and Inventory Results: Summarize the results of the required self-assessment and self-inventory exercises. Use critical thinking and your knowledge of psychological theories and concepts to analyze the meaning and significance of the results. This summary can help guide your career direction. Create a heading titled Goals and Career Plans:  Describe your professional philosophy, including your goals and career plans. Describe how your professional goals and career choices align with your values and life interests. Explain how your values relate to professional behaviors and practices. Create a heading titled Motivation: Analyze how psychological principles can be used to motivate you to overcome obstacles to reach your professional goals. Create a heading titled Action Plan: Develop a SMART action plan for implementing your career goals. This will serve as a road map to help you take concrete steps to fulfill your goals. For example, describe the steps you are planning to take to apply for a job or apply to graduate school. Discuss realistic ideas about how to implement psychological knowledge and skills in occupational pursuits that meet personal and professional goals. You may wish to review the document SMART Action Plan, linked in the Resources under the Suggested Resources heading, conduct an Internet search to learn what should be included in an action plan, or refer to the Capella Career Center resources, linked in the Resources under the Suggested Resources heading. Create a heading titled Conclusion: Briefly summarize the key points of your assessment and make a statement about your future career aspirations.

Keep in mind throughout this assessment that while your writing must conform to APA standards, you must explain all information in a manner that can be easily understood by a nonacademic or nonscientific audience.

Group Experience

Analyze what you discovered about yourself while observing a counseling or support group. Please focus on the following when developing your response: Evaluation of group processes: Identify the type of group. Discuss to what extent you were able to assess group organization and goals. Application of ethics: Was confidentiality discussed or reiterated at the onset of the group meeting? Was the setting appropriate to facilitate confidentiality? Effective group facilitation: Some support and self-help groups are led by volunteers without formal training who learn effective skills through experience. Assess the facilitator’s style and application of group management techniques. If there was a co-leader, describe your observation of roles and cohesiveness. Personal reflection: Using anonymous examples, describe how insight of this process might influence your theoretical perspective, facilitation style, and appreciation of group work. How does this compare to points raised in the “The Benefits of Group Therapy Observation for Therapists-in-Training” article?

Apply one to two theories―such as drive reduction theory, cognitive evaluation theory, or Atkinson’s model―to how physiological, psychological, or implicit needs affect behavior. Explain how the organization is affected by unmet human needs, as well as what can be done to improve employees’ experiences.

Discussion Board Forum 2: Religious Counseling Meta-Analysis

(Module/Week 7)

USE THE HIGHLIGHTED RESOURCE TO ANSWER:

Preliminary Reading: McCullough, M.E. (1999). Research on religion-accommodative counseling: Review and meta-analysis. Journal of Counseling Psychology, 46(1), p. 92–98. Full text available through the Jerry Falwell Library. Log in to access the article for free.

Thread Prompt: As you have been studying this module/week, a meta-analysis is a study that statistically combines the results of several studies on a similar topic. By calculating an overall mean effect size, meta-analyses help provide information on the effects of treatments over and above the individual studies themselves. McCullough’s meta-analysis examines several studies that compare Christian counseling techniques to standard, non-religious counseling techniques. Imagine you are working in a community clinic with a variety of counselors, and you are interested in alerting the clinic supervisors to this meta-analysis and possibilities for future research that could be conducted in your clinic. Write a professional email to your supervisor and include the following required information:

1. Briefly describe how many studies are represented in this meta-analysis and what the main findings of the meta-analysis were.

2. In your opinion, why is this meta-analysis important in the context of Christian counseling, even though the results are not significant? Support your answer with information from the article.

3. Propose a study: In the meta-analysis discussion section, the subsection entitled “The Last Word” contains 4–5 suggestions for further studies in Christian counseling. Choose 1 that interests you and briefly propose a quantitative study to investigate this topic. The description of your proposed study must include:

a) Your research question;

b) A short description of the target participants (gender, age, diagnosis or problem area, etc.);

c) The independent and dependent variables, and how many levels/groups the independent variable would have (review Module/Week 1 if necessary);

4. The type of outcome measure to serve as your dependent variable, as well as its level of measurement (nominal, ordinal, scale?—see Module/Week 1). The measure could be a questionnaire, self-report, therapist rating of illness severity, number of diagnostic criteria met, etc. This can be something you come up with yourself. You do not have to name an actual existing instrument unless you know of one.

5. Include references in current APA style for any sources, including the meta-analysis.

1. .

Important Considerations:

1. Because you are taking on a role and writing letters, this discussion board prompt leaves no room for comments such as the following, which will result in loss of points:

a) “Great job on your discussion post,”

b) “I totally agree with everything you said,”

c) “Good luck in the rest of the class,” etc.

2. The word count may not include text from this prompt or direct quotes from classmates’ posts. If you include this type of material, make sure that you have enough words to reach the minimum word count without it.

Your thread must be at least 300 words and is due by11:59 p.m. (ET) on Friday of Module/Week

WORD COUNT: 300
