housekeeping occupational safety training assignment

Training and development programs are an essential aspect for hospitality employee information dissemination, adherence to quality standards, and personal career growth. Successful training programs follow a general formula:

  • Determine the business objective (Why is the hospitality organization conducting this training? Why is it needed?)
  • Organize 2-3 learning objectives of the training (2-3 things you want the employees to learn during the training)
  • Outline the training:
    • according to time spent on each aspect (total time 30-90 minutes)
    • content or lecture you will cover
    • at least one activity where employees get to practice or do something
    • feedback either at the end via questioning, or after the training via a survey

INSTRUCTIONS: Students will create a short mock training program centered around housekeeping occupational safety for a hospitality property (hotel, restaurant, etc.) based on the above bullets. Students should conduct some internet research, as well as read the materials in the module to determine what sorts of hazards a housekeeper might face, and build a short 1-2 page training outline with references around prevention of this hazard. You may use this template as a guide.

PSD: Chief JosephPrompt1. Read. Context info: After the Civil War, the U.S. government focused its efforts on consolidating its authority all over the country, including in the vast expanses of the West that were inhabited by Native American groups. When we think about the history of Native Americans in the American territories, we often think that they died off or were killed off early in American history, but that isn’t so. It wasn’t until railroads were built across the country in the 1860s that American settlers were very interested in inhabiting much of the American west. Indian wars intensified in the period after the Civil War, and continued until the 1890s. For this assignment, you’ll be reading a little bit about one Native American group, the Nez Perce, who lived in Oregon. Like many other Native American groups, the Nez Perce were forcibly relocated from homes across the western half of the U.S. to reservations in “Indian Territory,” most of which is what is today Oklahoma. In a final, last ditch effort to resist being forced to Oklahoma, the Nez Perce fled toward Canada.Chief Joseph Biography: http://www.oregonhistoryproject.org/articles/biographies/chief-joseph-biography/Chief Joseph Speaks: http://www.pbs.org/weta/thewest/resources/archives/six/jospeak.htm 2. Post. Write ~200 words, and use specific examples from the document. Your response should focus on what you read in the second link, Chief Joseph’s speeches. As you read, think: Who do you think he is speaking to, and why? How do you think his audience affects what he says? What does he want? Do you find his ideas and claims persuasive? If your last name begins G-P, answer: Who? To Whom? Why?
What do you know or can you guess about the authors of the document? What evidence do you have for this from the document itself? How does textbook/modules content help you understand?
Who is their audience? What can we tell about that person, besides their name, from the document? Does textbook info help? How?
Why are they writing, or in this assignment, speaking? What is the purpose of the letter? What specific examples in the document help you understand?

Do you think that something like the financial crisis that occurred in 2007-2008 could happen again? If it did, what would the impact be on the ability of firms to raise capital to fund investments, and on the global economy?

1.Does it make sense for Interbrew to develop a global brand?

2. Does Stella Artois appear to be the right choice as the company's flagship brand?

3. Interbrews strategy has focused on developing cities as markets rather than on the more traditional view of countries as markets.  What are the pros and cons?

4. What would Interbrew have to do to succeed with Stella in the major urban market closest to where you live? Will these requirement vary much between major cities? Why? Why not?

3c.  Is it paradoxical for Interbrews to try and establish Stella Artois as a global brand while focusing on selected cities.  Whose collective population constitutes only a miniscule portion of the global population: Through which mechanisms might Interbrew's strategy still have the desired outcome?

Case Study-International
Business: The Question of Paying Bribes

According to the World Bank, bribery is a $1
Trillion per year issue (Bowie and Schneider 305). All countries have laws
against paying bribes, but it still happens.

You are the manager of a
multi-year, multi-billion dollar project overseas. Local officials from on site
inspectors to national cabinet ministers all have their hands out.

Other companies are making
payments, because “everyone else is doing it†and “that’s how things get done
here.â€

Your project will definitely
get delayed, and may get cancelled, if you do not make the payments. But, US
law is clear, paying bribes is illegal and will be punished if discovered.

What do you do as the project
manager?

What is the ethical basis of
your decision?

Does your answer change if
the company owners and executives are willing to turn a blind eye?

Are there universal ethical
values in play here? Or, is this a case of cultural relativism?
