600 word current event article on global warming

When you work on your current events article, I suggest reading through the information provided below on available library resources for selection of your current events article. I would like for everyone to work on finding articles that are scholarly in nature and not from general websites. For example, the website sciencedaily.com is a popular choice; however, this website does not contain articles. The website only posts news stories on recent published articles. As a reminder, you need to prepare an original 600 word summary on your selected article for modules 1-6 (new article each module).

  • Online Databases and Indexes to Journals: Contain abstracts and full text for articles from peer reviewed journals, non-peer reviewed journals, magazines and newspapers.
  • Electronic Resources: Includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, manuals, etc. that are searchable and readable online.
  • Selected Websites: These websites have been recommended by Saint Leo faculty and librarians.
  • Print Resources: Includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, manuals, handbooks, almanacs, atlases, directories, etc. (Located in the Cannon Memorial Library/University Campus)
  • Print Periodicals: A listing of print (hard copy) periodicals and journals that the library subscribes to. (Located in the Cannon Memorial Library/University Campus)

Respond to both parts of this question.

Part A

Social Darwinism used the idea of “survival of the fittest” to make a case for a laissez-faire approach to business. Social Darwinists thought the government should not regulate business because only the best should last. Write a brief essay explaining some of the government’s actions around the turn of the century that social Darwinists would not have approved of.

Part B

Then think about another philosophy that developed in the late nineteenth century. The Social Gospel taught that it was a person’s duty to help others in need, not just prepare for an afterlife. Write a brief essay describing some of the actions that people took to practice the beliefs of the Social Gospel.

d Jim Corder’s “Argument as Emergence, Rhetoric as Love”Preview the document

Read the following excerpts from Thomas King’s View in a new windowThe Truth about Stories View in a new window(if you’re pressed for time, focus on the first 10 pages) and Jim Corder’s “Argument as Emergence, Rhetoric as Love”View in a new window (the first 3 sections are most important). As you read, try and form connections between the two arguments. How are they similar? How are they different? What purpose does each one serve and for what audience are they written?

Last week you responded to Peter Elbow’s freewriting task by attempting to answer the question “Who are you?” This week, think about your identity in terms of the stories/narratives that you tell about yourself and that society tells about you. You might think about how you would answer the question of “Who are you?” as compared to how different people might answer it for you. How would your parents answer it? Your best friend? Your classmates? Stranger on the bus? What stories/narratives inform your answer and what stories/narrative inform theirs? What power do these stories or narratives hold? What responsibilities do they come with?

Post a response here that addresses some of these questions. Your response can take the form of structured paragraphs (around 250 words) or it can be more creative (personal narrative, poetry, comics, music, video, collage, etc). Use whatever genre best makes your point. Be sure to finish your response with a reflection on how contemplating your identity in forms of stories/narratives from a variety of perspectives might lead you to discover a research topic of interest for this class.

3 question, 250 words each

  1. Human-Environmental Relationship: Select one passage from World’s WisdomChapter 8 and one passage from the La Duke reading. Contrast their ideals for the proper human-environmental relationship. Be sure to identify the two passages that you are contrasting. (Up to 250 words)
  2. Covenant and Community: Select one passage from this week’s How to Live a Good Life selection and one passage from World’s WisdomChapter 5. Contrast the intersections between 1. Covenant, 2. the great variety of ideas within the Jewish texts and tradition, and 3. A shared community. What most stands out? Be sure to identify the two passages that you are contrasting. (Up to 250 words)
  3. Pandemic/Climate Change (Choose 1): How might one of the traditions in this week’s course content to understand or address this challenge? Draw only on and cite specifically from this week’s course content (video and textual). If you want a little visual to go along with this question, I have uploaded a small clip about a group experiencing a global disaster. You do not have to reference it in your response, but you may find it helpful. (Up to 250 words)

I will give you the book link.
