Assessment 2: Critical review of strategic health issues

Assessment type Critical review

Word limit / length 1,500 Words +/- 10%

Weighting 30%

Due date Sunday, Week 4 15 Sep 2018, , 5 pm Overview From your knowledge of the healthcare system, and your experiences of a workplace you have worked in or are familiar with, work on the strategic issue identified in Assessment 1, and critically analyse the issue. This assessment is built on the first assessment, as it aims to help you ground the theory of strategic health management in a workplace scenario that you are familiar with. In undertaking this assessment, you are developing the ideas and resources that will help inform Assessment 3. Learning objectives This assessment task is aligned to the following learning objectives:

Objective 1 – critically evaluate the concept of strategic management and the use of a strategic management model. Objective 3 – critically analyse and evaluate a range of skills and attributes relevant to being an effective health service manager. Objective 4 – identify strategic issues in health care and formulate and implement strategic management plans in relation to them. Objective 6 – incorporate the principles of justice and equity into planning and management of health services. Assessment details Your assignment should include the following: Describing the strategic issue and its strategic nature – A description of one problematic, or potentially problematic healthcare issue you have observed in a workplace organisation you have worked in or are familiar with. Please continue your work on the issue mentioned in Assessment 1. If necessary, you can seek permission use a different issue than the one from Assessment 1, however it is recommended that you build Assessment 2 on the original issue, to save time and be consistent throughout the assignments. – A description of looking at the issue, strategically or justification for the strategic nature of the issue from an ecological framework (e.g. how the issue is related to organisational, local, state and national levels).

MNG91220: Strategic Health Management

10

Justification/critical argument around the strategic issue (its drivers and consequences) – A critical rationale/argument around the key causes/drivers of the issue considering different attributes of a health services manager; why the issue has not been systematically addressed at different levels. Drivers of the strategic issue can be considered from a holistic point of view (e.g. different factors at different levels – issues related to population health, cost-efficiency, effectiveness of the services, such as consumers/staff satisfaction, managerial/organizational issues, etc.). – A critical argument about health care, justice and inequity consequences, if the issue stays unresolved (e.g. impacting on disparities and population health, budget/costefficiency, productivity/performance, etc.).

– Please incorporate different theories in discussing your review of the issue. – Please be advised that this assignment is mainly about theoretical points/argument about the issue, its drivers and consequences. There is no need to provide a remedial framework/plan for resolving the issue (this stage will be addressed in Assessment 3). – Please be advised that you are able to use some parts of Assessment 1, if relevant, however, information needs to be rephrased. Structure of assignment

Although there can be variations in preparing your discussion around assignment one, below outline can be considered in your writing. – A specific title for strategic issue – Strategic issue and its nature (e.g. including the justification/rationale that why the issue is strategic) – up to 3 paragraphs, 600 words – Drivers of strategic issue and its consequences if stays unresolved – up to 4 paragraphs, 900 words – References Using information from workplace: The assignments are designed to provide an opportunity to work with real workplace events to enhance the maximum relevance and possibility of translation of the work to practice. However, if there is no possibility of relating the assignments to the workplace, please describe the work in general terms and/or consider the case hypothetically. If using any real information from your workplace, it needs to be secondary (e.g. online report) not primary (e.g. conducting interview) as this would require ethical application. Use the information provided anonymously, and seek permission from your workplace, before the usage of the information for the purpose of the assignment. Writing a report – Please be advised that you can consider this report as an “evaluative report” (see link below). However, you can also just use the guidance provided above.

Role of Research and the Importance of the Searchable Clinical, week 1 Question help

Role of Research and the Importance of the Searchable Clinical Question

The practice of nursing is deeply rooted in nursing knowledge, and nursing knowledge is generated and disseminated through reading, using, and creating nursing research. Professional nurses rely on research findings to inform their practice decisions; they use critical thinking to apply research directly to specific patient care situations. The research process allows nurses to ask and answer questions systematically that will ensure that decisions are based on sound science and rigorous inquiry. Nursing research helps nurses in a variety of settings answer questions about patient care, education, and administration.

As you contemplate your role in the research process, read the following article.

Kumar, S. (2015). Type 1 diabetes mellitus-common cases. As we move through our homeschool year, we would like to give you a backstage pass to the inner workings of our language development and what we are focusing on this year. As our kids are getting older, there are certain language attributes that are important to understanding including “arbitrariness, semanticity, productivity, and displacement” (Piper, 2012).

Arbitrariness is referring to the arbitrary word picked to represent an idea or the concept in no way other than the fact that we learned that the word “water” represents what we know as water (Piper, 2012). It reminds us that the language that we are using consist of words thought up by someone to represent something in our world. Our words are changing constantly and being updated, improved, rejected, and so on by usage panels hired by dictionary publishers (American Heritage, 2016).

“Semanticity in language refers to its capacity for representing ideas, objects, or events with symbols” Piper, 2012). Semanticity is the link between the arbitrary word and the thing that the word represents.

Productivity refers to the production of sounds that are mixed to come up with an infinite amount of words as needed for the language as it grows and adapts (Piper, 2012). Producticity also refers to the mixing of words such as verbs, nouns, adverbs, and so forth to change sentences in uncountable ways (Piper, 2012).

Displacement is accounting for the fact that we can communicate about things that are not right in front of us happening as we are trying to speak to each other about it (Piper, 2012). It gives us the ability to talk to each other about abstract ideas that cannot be represented with physical shapes and things that have already happened or might happen in the future. Our words do not have to be tied directly into the physical present.

Language is a foundational stepping-stone that will help us share ideas and new information with our children. These four attributes to language help distinguish our complex form of communication apart from other animals that can communicate in their simple forms. It shows us what language is, how it is formed, and what it does. It is exciting to witness this language development in our kids, and I look forward to the rest of the school year.

Growth and Expansion Strategy

Based on the concepts that you learned this week from the assigned videos and articles surrounding growth strategies for companies, make an initial assessment of whether Gentry should expand into China, Japan, and Germany all at one time or in a phased approach.

In your assignment, recall the strategies that you discussed in this module’s discussion questions about the different types of financial investments companies use for growth.

Provide your recommendation in a 700-word paper with APA formatting.

Include the advantages and disadvantages of expanding with debt and equity (using the information that you learned in this module’s materials).

Assess and research the steps necessary to expand globally by finding articles in the Rasmussen College Library or the assigned chapters from the text.

The library has the following pages to help you get started with your research.

Scenario: You are a loan officer for White Sands Bank of Taos. Paul Jason, president of P. Jason Corporation, has just left your office. He is interested in an 8-year loan to expand the company’s operations. The borrowed funds would be used to purchase new equipment. As evidence of the company’s debt-worthiness, Jason provided you with the following facts:

2017

2016

Current Ratio

3.1

2.1

Asset Turnover

2.8

2.2

Net Income

Up 32%

Down 8%

Earnings per Share

$3.30

$2.50

Jason is a very insistent (some would say pushy) man. When you told him you would need additional information before making your decision, he acted offended and said, “What more could you possibly want to know?” You responded you would , at minimum, need complete, audited financial statements.

Develop a minimum 700-word examination of the financial statements and include the following:

  • Explain why you would want the financial statements to be audited.
  • Discuss the implications of the ratios provided for the lending decision you are to make. That is, does the information paint a favorable picture? Are these ratios relevant to the decision? State why or why not.
  • Evaluate trends in the performance of P. Jason Corporation. Identify each performance measure as favorable or unfavorable and explain the significance of each.
  • List three other ratios you would want to calculate for P. Jason Corporation, and in your own words explain in detail why you would use each.
  • As the loan officer, what else would you do to gain a better understanding of Paul Jason’s, and the Corporation’s financial picture and why?
  • Based on your analysis of P. Jason Corporation, will you recommend approval for the requested loan? Provide specific details to support your decision.

Format the assignment consistent with APA guidelines.
