Collaboration Paper

This assignment is a formal paper. This includes: APA format, title page, headings, literature review, proper citation per APA, logical sequence, conclusions, clarity, understanding of the topic, and reference list. The paper should be 3-5 pages in length excluding the title page and reference page. The paper must demonstrate independent ideas and conclusions. At a minimum, the following topics must be well articulated in the paper. Remember that discussion of each topic requires citations that are current (less than 5 years old) and relevant. Please refer to the grading rubric for how your paper will be graded.

• Explain how multidisciplinary collaboration can affect clinical decision making.
• Discuss how collaboration can lead to improved patient outcomes.
• Discuss how lack of collaboration can lead to poor patient outcomes.
• Identify three barriers to professional collaboration among healthcare professionals and patients?
• What are the five best ways to promote professional collaboration in pediatric primary care?
• How can the nurse practitioner encourage and support collaboration among the patient, family, caregivers, and healthcare professionals?

For this week you will be completing A. You will need to:

1. Locate a Volunteer:
   He/she will play the role
   of “client” seeking help for persistent headaches and problems sleeping.
   The person you interview can be someone you know personally or you can
   contact your classmates through the Student Lounge to arrange to
   interview one another.
   1. The client believes that stress may be part of the problem with
      his/her symptoms. Remember that this is a role play, and your volunteer
      should be aware that this is a practice interview and not a real
      psychological interview.
   2. Prior to conducting your interview, ask your volunteer to think
      about stress that s/he can discuss related to the client’s problems
      (e.g., your client may think about stress from a job or stress related
      to a relationship with a significant other). However, DO NOT have your
      volunteer discuss this stress with you prior to the interview. You want
      to be able to explore this topic in depth during your interview. This
      scenario is intentionally left open-ended in order to allow students to
      maximize opportunity to utilize interview skills during the interview.
2. Create an Interview Guide:
   1. In order to achieve a quality interview, you will need to first plan
      your interview, which is this week’s assignment (you will conduct and
      analyze the interview in Module 5).
   2. The purpose of your interview is to gather in-depth information to
      aid in diagnosis and treatment planning for the client. You will need
      to gather detailed information about the symptoms being reported for
      both headaches and sleep problems (e.g., How often are the headaches
      occurring? How long do they last? What do they feel like? Has any
      treatment helped? Is there any pattern to the headaches?). You will
      also need to present a complete picture of the patient. What is the
      patient’s gender, age, marital status, and employment status? Be sure
      to go beyond these example questions, and provide an in-depth, highly
      detailed interview with your client.

Interview Guide Topics
The Interview Guide should directly address the below topics. Use each of these topics as headings within your paper to ensure that you directly respond to each. You should respond with at least a paragraph for each topic/heading.

1. Identify and summarize the purpose of your interview. How will the information you gather be used?
2. Explain how you will structure the interview and your reasoning
   behind the structuring of the interview. Include a list of topics you
   plan to cover.
3. Compose the questions you will use to obtain the information
   (develop a minimum of 15-20 questions). Be sure that you develop a
   minimum of 5 open and 5 closed ended questions.
4. Develop a minimum of 5 examples of paraphrasing, summaries, or
   reflections
   techniques that could be used during your interview (must have at least
   one of each paraphrase, summary, and reflection). When you conduct your
   actual interview, these exact examples you create may not fit depending
   on the responses of your interviewee, but it is important to start
   thinking now about how you will incorporate these techniques. For this
   Interview Guide assignment, develop hypothetical examples of each type
   of technique.
5. Identify the opening techniques you will utilize to build rapport with the volunteer/client.
6. Identify types/examples of questions you want to avoid during interview.

Include an Analysis Summary:

In addition to the Interview Guide include an analysis (2-3
paragraphs) of your own preliminary thoughts about this client based on
the limited information you have about this client. Have you ever known a
person with chronic headaches or sleep problems? What is your “gut
reaction” to hearing about a patient with chronic headaches and problems
sleeping? That the person is a complainer? Is he/she a victim of
terrible illness? Spend some time examining your thoughts and attitudes.
It is normal for all of us to make at least preliminary assumptions
about everyone we come in to contact with, and a good interviewer has
awareness of his or her preliminary assumptions. Include the following in your analysis:

1. Identify your own beliefs (sympathetic, unsympathetic, or some
   mixture of both) and explain how these could affect your interview. Do
   you think that your beliefs are influenced by your own age, cultural,
   gender, sexual orientation, or ethnicity?
2. Identify steps you can take to limit the impact of your own beliefs on the interview. Be as specific as possible. I would be sympathetic in nature. I feel my beliefs are influenced by how I grew up, because I am female and has nothing to do with my gender or sexual orientation.

President Woodrow Wilson attempted to apply Progressive principles to his conduct of US foreign policy. Wilson saw foreign policy in terms of morality, and international relations in terms of law, order, and justice. This is what guided him in his conduct towards matters such as the Mexican Revolution. World War One presented the greatest challenge to Wilson’s ideals. Wilson asserted US neutrality in the conflict, called for both sides to seek “peace without victory,” and condemned actions, such as Germany’s unrestricted submarine attacks, that he believed violated international law and US rights. US entry into the conflict was pitched in moral terms, and Wilson’s plans for the post-World War One world were also pitched in terms of rights and justice. Unfortunately for Wilson, many of his war and peace aims were frustrated or denied by the European combatant nations and Americans at home.

In preparation for the assignment, read : “American Empire” and Chapter 21: “World War I and its Aftermath” in The American Yawp along with the following primary sources: Wilson, W. (1917), Peace Without Victory, Woodrow, W. (1918), The Fourteen Points, and Goldman, E. (1917), We Don’t Believe in Conscription. You may also want to take a look at the World War I Propaganda Posters.

In additional, examine the editorial cartoon above, originally from the New York Herald, from September 1919, or a larger version of the cartoon. The cartoon depicts the base of the Statue of Liberty with a representation of a Hindu goddess (Kali). The wording on the cartoon reads: “This may be a better goddess than liberty—but we’ll have to be shown” and the wording on the statue reads “League of Nations.”

Then, in an initial post of approximately 300 words, using specific evidence from the primary sources, and readings listed above, answer the following questions:

• Given that the US was on the winning side of World War One and was one of the main leaders at the Versailles peace talks, why does this cartoon depict the League of Nations negatively?
• Consider the domestic and foreign events of the time period. What else may have factored into this skepticism about President Wilson’s cherished foreign policy objectives?

Choose a specific disorder, and then conduct web research to find a person (i.e., living or not, historical, famous, and/or even fictional) who suffers from one of the conditions listed. You will then use this individual as a case study for the specifications that follow for this discussion. Choose from the following list:

• Agoraphobia
• Anorexia or Bulimia
• Generalized Anxiety Disorder
• Depression
• Panic Disorder
• Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
• Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
• Specific Phobias (e.g., public speaking, heights, animals, etc.)
• Substance Abuse

For a minimum of 350 words, assume the role of a cognitive behavioral therapist who is treating the individual you have researched. Your initial post should address and focus on the following items rather than centering the activity on a detailed description of the disorder.

• Briefly describe the disorder.
• Identify the assessment strategy for diagnosing the disorder.
• Describe in detail a cognitive behavioral experiment you might use with this client to address the chosen disorder. Your experiment should include both cognitive and behavioral aspects and be measurable.
• Apply cognitive and behavioral theories to explain and justify your experiment.
