Male-medicated Teratogens is a term used to label environment factors that affect men as they become fathers and the health of children they produce. It is a term that causes damages during the prenatal period. Things such as drugs, like cocaine, heavy drinking, too much lead intact affects the male reproduction progeny. The harm that it does is not always straightforward it depends on many factors. For example, the dose of the drugs, heredity, other negative influences, and even age. Teratogens affect the prenatal development because being exposed to certain chemicals can lead to certain birth defects. For example, microwave radiation, and cellphones. These things negatively impact the fathers health causing unwanted issues that may transfer to the child. Overall, it affects the health because its not healthy for the body. Just like women who drink or smoke during pregnancy it does the same for the fathers. There sperm is inserted in to the mother and things can get transferred to the child. Exposure to chemicals and environments factors can shorten your lifespan and causing health problems. They are putting their life and their off spring life at risk.

2.

Teratogens are rarely straightforward and are never as simple as they may seem, depending on the risk factors. Teratogens are described as an environmental agent that can cause significant damage during the prenatal period of pregnancy, Berk, L. E. (2018).What is meant by male-mediated teratogens is that if a father has toxic exposure whether it’s before or during the conception process it can play a significant role to his future children’s genomic stability,

Anderson, D., Schmid, T., & Baumgartner, A. (2014).

Male mediated teratogens can affect the prenatal development of their future children in a few different ways, one of which is cigarette smoke, Anderson, D., Schmid, T., & Baumgartner, A. (2014). When the father smokes within 6 months of conception it could consequently result in germline mutation of miniatellite loci (CEB1) and B6.7. Research has shown that heritable mutations such as CEB1 increase in the sequence of DNA that can show the genetic consequences from the father’s harmful lifestyle, Anderson, D., Schmid, T., & Baumgartner, A. (2014). According to Berk, L. E. (2018). , about a third to one half of pregnant women who are non-smokers are actually “passive smokers” which entails their husbands, coworkers and even relatives smoke cigarettes around the pregnant woman, even with passive smoking there are several potential long term side effects. Behavior problems, infant death, low birth weight and respiratory illnesses,

These unhealthy lifestyles for instance exposure to radiation, chemicals and as mentioned before cigarette smoke can not only cause significant risk factors health wise in mens health but it can also make their lifespan shorter

3.

What counseling would you offer to someone considering pregnancy, or in the early stage of pregnancy, about things that can affect prenatal development, such as teratogens and other factors?

Considering pregnancy is a huge deal as well as being in the early stages of pregnancy. You must be aware of the environmental effects that can effect pregnancy, these are known as teratogens (Berk, 2018). To prepare your body and make sure it is at its healthiest, it would be wise to be aware of what alcohol, smoking, illegal drugs, and perscription/non-perscription drugs do to your body as well as the body of the father ( Berk, 2018). It is also important to have a stress free enviroment as well as good nutrition. Poor nutrition known as prenatal malnutrition can cause serious damage to the nervous system (Berk, 2018). It is important to be prepared for all of these things to give your baby the best chance at survival.

How might your counsel change, based on demographic factors such as age or ethnicity of the woman?

Counsel would not change much based on demographic factors. Based on age, emphasis would be placed more on nutrition as well as making sure special care is taken, and the mother has taken precautions with her health. As a women ages, there are higher risks of prenatal complications (Berk, 2018). This information would be included in the counsel.

What counseling would you offer to help lessen the effect of postnatal complications, such as low birth weight or preterm birth?

Without getting the proper care, preterm birth as well as low birth weight can be a discouraging and scary thing. During pregnancy try and stay as stress free and pay attention to nutrition. If you do have a baby born early or with low birth weight the doctors have several ways of helping mothers cope. There are options such as special infant stimulation which can help preterm babies develop (Berk, 2018).

4.

There are several different types of counseling resources out there for new mommy’s to be and or considering pregnancy. For instance, The Nurse-Family Partnership is a good resource for someone who is of low income and about to have their first child, Berk, L. E. (2018). It consists of a nurse coming and visiting you at home every week after the first month of enrollment than twice a month through the remainder of the pregnancy up until the child is a year and a half than monthly until he or she is two years old. This nurse provides a sympathetic ear, intensive social support and helps the mommy to be have access to health and community services, Berk, L. E. (2018). The nurse also encourages the pregnant mom to finish school, she also talks with family members to help prepare them for arrival of the baby.

If it was someone who has the social support but who’s just wanting more information during the early stages of their pregnancy or looking to get pregnant and what can affect prenatal development. I would inform them that having a poor nutrition can cause serious damage to the central nervous system from prenatal malnutrition, Berk, L. E. (2018). Alcohol exposure during pregnancy can cause mental, physical and behavioral problems. Discussing with the mother or mother to be to steer clear of ionizing radiation (X-Ray or industrial leakage), and also relay the importance of reducing her emotional stress during pregnancy. Emotional stress can cause low birth weight, colic, prematurity, and digestive illnesses, Berk, L. E. (2018).

As mentioned above counsel can changed based upon the needs of the expectant mother. A mother who is low income and feels as if she has no support can contact the Nurse-Family Partnership for the social support she may need along with the abundance amount of resources she may provide as well. When it comes to maternal age and if a woman is in her thirties or forties the expectant mother needs to be aware that having children at that age comes with increased risk of miscarriage, infertility and the potential for chromosomal defects, Berk, L. E. (2018). Although, according to Berk, L. E. (2018), research has shown that a healthy woman in her thirties having a baby has no more complication risk than a healthy woman in her twenties.

Discussing the importance with the mother that having a healthy diet, active lifestyle (as long as the Dr. permits it), making sure she is taking her vitamins and going to all of her Dr. visits is vital in the development of her baby. According to Berk, L. E. (2018), 11% of babies in the U.S are born early and 8% are underweight. Research suggest that preterm infant development has a tremendous deal to do with parent-child relationship, Berk, L. E. (2018).

Consumer Behavior Marketing

TOPIC 1:

Let’s explore what the Consumer Decision Process is by examining a recent purchase that you have made. This should be a purchase that involved (in some detail) each of the five stages. This means it’s a past purchase (because you need to reflect on the last stage; Postpurchase). Organize this part of your post using these specific headings:

a) Problem Recognition

b) Information Search

c) Alternative Evaluation

d) Purchase

e) Postpurchase

Within each heading take us through this single purchase experience. USE CONCEPTS from the readings (placing the concepts in bold), to describe some of your observations. Here are some required concepts that should be used for each of the above:

Problem Recognition: What is the desired state? What is the actual state? (use brands to describe these states). Identify the major motive/need that is underlying this purchase.

Information Search: Did you conduct Internal Search? External Search? or both? Identify and give examples of the type of search to support.

Alternative Evaluation: What evaluative criteria for the purchase did you identify? Was there a difference between Salient and Determinant attributes? What brands existed in your evoked set?

Purchase: In the readings there were considerations and influences for the purchase stage. Identify the ones that influenced your choice of how to buy the product.

Postpurchase: Are you satisfied? Ideally, the actual state and desired state put forth in Problem Recognition should come together (hope becomes reality). In other words, did this purchase solve all your needs AND did the product/brand live up to it’s promises. Last, did you suffer any Cognitive Dissonance (Buyer’s Remorse)?

TOPIC 2: Identify the LEVEL of Involvement from the purchase explored above. Explain (in detail) why you advocate that specific level.

TOPIC 3: Identify the Problem Solving Method. Was it Extended, Limited or Routine (support and explain why)?

TOPIC 4: Identify a purchase that you decided NOT to go through with (see the concept “No Consumer Action” in the reading). What are the reasons (see the concepts)?

Please respond to all Topics in one main thread. Use paragraph form to respond. Do not repeat a brand/product category that has been previously used in a peer posting. Better responses include citations (end/foot notes) from the readings. Outside research is strongly encouraged just be sure to cite within the text response and provide the whole citation entry at the bottom of the post.

Read all the articles above then do some research to find at least one popular media article (not scholarly article) on the connection between cell phones, power lines, TSA screening or other nonionizing radiation source, published within the last three years, and provide references in APA format for the article.

Does the article provide evidence of the connection or evidence of no connection?

Do you think the article uses sound science to justify the conclusions drawn?

In your opinion, do you agree with the premise of the article?

Why or why not?

Answer these questions as specific as you can and cite everything be APA accurate

Unit 7 Human Resources Management Assignment

Unit 7 Assignment: Case Study Analysis

In this Assignment, through the Managing Talent Wal-Mart case study, you will engage in developing the following professional competencies:

  • Understands how to approach unstructured problems
  • Read the case “Managing Talent: How Wal-Mart Is Setting Pay at the Top…and Bottom” at the end of Chapter 12. Answer the questions found in the Assignment Rubric below (not the questions at the end of the case study in the text) in a 2-3 page APA-style paper. Note that the questions in this Assignment relate to both Units 6 and 7. By any measure, the chief executive officer of Wal-Mart Stores, Mike Duke, has a huge job. In the highly competitive retail industry, Wal-Mart operates more than 10,000 stores in more than two dozen countries, generating sales in the hundreds of billions of dollars. For that responsibility, Duke is highly paid. In 2011, he received a base salary of $1.3 million, stock awards valued at $13.1 million, and a cash bonus of $2.9 million. Duke’s salary and stock awards were each 3% larger than in the previous year, but his bonus was 25% smaller because the company failed to meet goals for operating income. His total compensation of $18.1 million made Duke the 82nd-highest paid chief executive in the United States, according to Forbes magazine. MANAGING TALENT: HOW WALMART IS SETTING PAY AT THE TOP…AND BOTTOM

Another change that took place in Duke’s compensation was in the measures used for setting his incentive pay. In the past, Wal-Mart used a metric common to retailers: same-store sales, meaning sales volume at stores that have been open for one year or longer. By looking at same-stores sales, a company can determine whether its activities are making its stores more successful over time. Wal-Mart, however, decided to base Duke’s incentive pay on the total sales for the entire company. The change came after Wal-Mart’s same-store sales had been falling for two years as recession-strained consumers switched to dollar stores or put off purchases altogether. In its official explanation of the change, Wal-Mart said it would “align our performance share goals more closely with our evolving business strategy, which emphasizes productive growth, leverage and returns.” Several years earlier, in contrast, Wal-Mart had said it measured same-store sales because that metric “is a key driver of shareholder returns” and investors view it “as an important measure of performance in the retail industry.”

The change from same-stores sales to total sales as the basis for incentive pay followed another change in performance targets. Two years earlier, the company switched the time frame for measuring performance. In the past, Wal-Mart executives had to meet three-year goals before receiving incentives. Beginning in 2009, they began receiving their incentive pay for meeting one-year goals. The company said the change would make the goals more current and realistic.

Lower in the corporate hierarchy, Wal-Mart has made very different decisions about compensation. The average wage for an hourly Wal-Mart employee in the United $12.40 per hour. An average employee with a fulltime schedule (many work part-time) would earn about $25,800 per year. Like Duke, wage earners at Wal-Mart are eligible for incentive pay, but the scale of the incentive pay is far smaller.

Under the company’s founder, Sam Walton, Wal-Mart set up a profit-sharing program, which Walton in his autobiography called “the carrot that’s kept Walmart headed forward” These payments have represented up to 4% of employees’ pay. The money was deposited in a fund that employees could cash in when they retired. In 2010, Wal-Mart paid its employees $1.1 billion in profit sharing and contributions to employees’ 401(k) retirement funds. However, that was the last year for the program. After 39 years, beginning in 2011, lower-level employees are no longer eligible for profit sharing. The company will instead increase its spending on quarterly and annual bonuses and medical insurance, and it will continue matching employees’ contributions to their 401(k) plans, up to 6% of their pay. A company spokesperson noted that employees would be able to spend their bonuses immediately, rather than waiting for their retirement, as they did with the profit sharing.
