LP7 Assignment: Annotated Bibliography

This assignment will assess the following competency: 7. Develop an annotated bibliography from secondary research.

Directions: Now that you have begun your primary research, this week you are going to organize your secondary research and create an annotated bibliography. Read about annotated bibliographies at Purdue Owl.

This annotated bibliography will contain sources you have read on your topic that you plan to use in your final paper. The sources must be peer-reviewed. For more information on peer-reviewed sources go to the following resource: Finding Quality Websites and Juried Articles.

For this assignment, you need to find and read 6 scholarly sources. Then, compose an Annotated Bibliography in APA 6th edition format (Proper APA formatting includes sources organized in alphabetical order with a hanging indent, among other things). For each source, you need to include a summary of the article and an analysis of the article.

OPTION 2:

Write a 3-page research paper with three parts.

Section 1 – Write about a film that was really important to you in your life. Why was it important? What was going on in you life that made it more relevant? What was it about that film in particular that moved you?

Section 2 – Watch the film again. Given what we’ve studied in the class, notice and write about the Cinematography, Editing, Directing, Acting and Mise-en-Scene. Look for academic resources to back up your observations. Has the film aged well? Does it still hold up? Since the film hasn’t changed, have you?

Assignment 1.1: Conflicting Viewpoints Essay – Part I

Prewriting

Due Week 2 and worth 30 points

When looking for information about a particular issue, how often do you try to resist biases toward your own point of view? This assignment asks you to engage in this aspect of critical thinking by playing the “Believing Game.” The Believing Game is about making the effort to “believe” – or at least consider – the reasons for an opposing view on an issue.

The assignment is divided into two (2) parts.
In Part I of the assignment (due Week 2), you will first read a book excerpt about critical thinking processes: “The Believing Game and How to Make Conflicting Opinions More Fruitful” at http://www.procon.org/sourcefiles/believinggame.pdf. Next, you will review the Procon.org Website in order to gather information. Then, you will engage in prewriting to examine your thoughts.
Note: In Part II of the assignment (due Week 4), you will write an essay geared towards synthesizing your ideas.

Part I – Prewriting: Follow the instructions below for this prewriting activity. Use complete sentences and adhere to standard rules of English grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and spelling.
1. Select one (1) of the approved topics from the www.procon.org Website and state your position on the issue.
2. From the Procon.org Website, identify three (3) premises (reasons) listed under either the Pro or Con section – whichever section opposes your position.
3.For each of the three (3) premises (reasons) that oppose your position on the issue, answer these “believing” questions suggested by Elbow:

  1. What’s interesting or helpful about this view?
  2. What would I notice if I believed this view?
  3. In what sense or under what conditions might this idea be true?”

The paper should follow guidelines for clear and organized writing:

  • Include an introductory paragraph and concluding paragraph.
  • Address main ideas in body paragraphs with a topic sentence and supporting sentences.
  • Adhere to standard rules of English grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and spelling.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • This course requires use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The format is different than other Strayer University courses. Please take a moment to review the SWS documentation for details.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Identify the informal fallacies, assumptions, and biases involved in manipulative appeals and abuses of language.
  • Create written work utilizing the concepts of critical thinking.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in critical thinking skills and informal logic.

Form your outline I should be able to determine what direction your paper is taking and how you are organizing your paper. You should include a list of possible sources. This does not have to be your final list, but I want to see what types of sources you are looking at and make sure you are finding scholarly sources for your research.

This should be submitted as a word doc.

Standard performance measures

Standard Performance Measures

Standard performance measures are a way of collecting data across similar functions, processes, costs, and providers. Benchmarking against these standards has proven to be useful in healthcare as a tool to measure many facets of quality. Carefully evaluating these measures allows for management to design appropriate programs to assist with healthcare service needs and patients to make decisions about facility and provider services. Best Doctors, Inc. and WebMD are examples of these tools. Your discussions will focus on the use of information from these websites to make healthcare decisions.

Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research about these measures and how they allow management to design appropriate programs to assist with healthcare service needs.

Based on your readings and research, answer the following:

  • Present a brief overview of the purpose for each of the Best Doctors, Inc. products. How are the “Best Doctors” of each type determined? Click here to visit the official Best Doctors website.

Next, click here to read a case study about Mary Jones.

Mary faced several challenges in her ordeal, mainly dealing with her diagnosis and treatment. This was a result of her ability to seek additional assistance and to find diagnosis. She reviewed the WebMD website for additional data and other specialty physician sources. Click here to visit the official WebMD website.

  • Do you feel this could have been addressed differently? Why?
  • Based on the information presented in this case, what are your observations about current consumer involvement in healthcare? What does this case teach about the use of computers to seek healthcare information?

Week 2 discussion post

Week 2: Discussion

No unread replies.No replies.

Purpose

The purpose of the graded collaborative discussions is to engage faculty and students in an interactive dialogue to assist the student in organizing, integrating, applying, and critically appraising knowledge regarding advanced nursing practice. Scholarly information obtained from credible sources as well as professional communication are required. Application of information to professional experiences promotes the analysis and use of principles, knowledge, and information learned and related to real-life professional situations. Meaningful dialogue among faculty and students fosters the development of a learning community as ideas, perspectives, and knowledge are shared.

Activity Learning Outcomes

Through this discussion, the student will demonstrate the ability to:

  1. Explain the pathophysiology of heart failure by analyzing a patient’s symptoms. (CO1)
  2. Differentiate between systolic and diastolic heart failure. (CO1)
  3. Explain the significance of physical exam and diagnostic findings in the diagnosis of heart failure. (CO4)
