Summative Course assessment

Several students in your fifth grade class are disengaged during math instruction and discussions. One student has an IEP (Individualized Education Program) for ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), one student has an IEP for dyslexia, one student has an IEP for visual impairment, and one student has severe language development concerns preventing understanding of instructional material.

Citing major concepts, principles, and theories, write a 750-1,000 word essay in which you describe instructional strategies along with the differentiation you would implement that would encourage them to participate and develop more confidence in their abilities.

In your essay, include:

  • Strategies that support engagement in the class as a whole, the role of language, and readiness of learning, based on the theories learned in class.
  • How you would modify instruction by applying the concepts and theories related to development (cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical).
  • How you will create developmentally appropriate instruction that takes into consideration the students’ strengths, differences, interests, and needs.
  • Strategies that can be implemented for motivation and acquisition of knowledge.
  • Strategies to provide equitable access for all students to appropriate digital tools and resources.

Support your findings with a minimum of 3-5 scholarly resources.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

help with history discussion

Please respond to the following: (Note: Please respond to one [1] of the following two [2] bulleted items in a primary posting of at least 125 words.

Southern Industrialization

Having depended on slave labor for much of their past, it is no surprise that Southerners found ways to maintain the institutions of slavery despite the laws. One of the most horrendous was called convict leasing in which prisoners were leased out to private firms. The state pocketed a profit and the business owner got very cheap labor. This institution still exists in some forms in some states. Explain how this system effected the African American community in the South. What other institutions created by Southern states kept African Americans in the status of second class citizens?

This documentary graphically explains the institution of convict leasing.

Western Industrialization

The industrialization of the Western US included the uprooting of the native people who lived all across the vast area between Mexico and Canada. What was the policy of the US government towards Native Americans and how did it explain this policy? What was the impact of these policies on Native Americans?

Here is a video presentation of images of Chief Joseph of the Nimiipuu tribe. He led his people in a desperate attempt to escape being forced onto a reservation in the US. His words graphically portray the contrast in world views held by his people and those in Washington, DC.

Using the Payback Method, IRR, and NPV

Purpose of Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to allow the student to calculate the project cash flow using net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), and the payback methods.

Assignment Steps

Resources: Corporate Finance

Create a 350-word memo to management including the following:

  • Describe the use of internal rate of return (IRR), net present value (NPV), and the payback method in evaluating project cash flows.
  • Describe the advantages and disadvantages of each method.

Calculate the following time value of money problems:

  1. If you want to accumulate $500,000 in 20 years, how much do you need to deposit today that pays an interest rate of 15%?
  2. What is the future value if you plan to invest $200,000 for 5 years and the interest rate is 5%?
  3. What is the interest rate for an initial investment of $100,000 to grow to $300,000 in 10 years?
  4. If your company purchases an annuity that will pay $50,000/year for 10 years at a 11% discount rate, what is the value of the annuity on the purchase date if the first annuity payment is made on the date of purchase?
  5. What is the rate of return required to accumulate $400,000 if you invest $10,000 per year for 20 years. Assume all payments are made at the end of the period.

Calculate the project cash flow generated for Project A and Project B using the NPV method.

  • Which project would you select, and why?
  • Which project would you select under the payback method? The discount rate is 10% for both projects.
  • Use Microsoft® Excel® to prepare your answer.
  • Note that a similar problem is in the textbook in Section 5.1.

Sample Template for Project A and Project B:

Write a 500- to 750-word paper regarding the role of drugs as part of youth culture.

Be sure to include a title page, introduction, conclusion, in-text citations, a minimum of five scholarly sources, and a reference section.

Your paper should address the following:

  1. What are the system linkages between the juvenile justice and adolescent treatment system?
  2. What clinical and programmatic issues are involved in the planning for substance use disorders treatment of juvenile offenders?
  3. What factors are involved in engaging hard to reach adolescent populations?

Your project must include the following criteria:
    • The project must consist of at least twenty-five (25) tasks.
    • Each task must contain a start date, a finish date, and have main staffing and non-staffing resources assigned.
    • Assume that your work activities are completed during normal weekdays (no weekend work) under normal conditions (8 hours per day).
    • In terms of holidays, you can assume no work will be done the following days: New Year’s Day, President’s Day, Good Friday, Good Monday, Friday before Memorial Day, Memorial Day, the business day before Independence Day, Independence Day, the Friday before Labor Day, Labor Day, the day before Thanksgiving Day, Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving), the business day before Christmas, Christmas Day, the business day after Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve.

Part B: Written Response
(Submit as a Microsoft Word file)

Write a one to two (1-2) page response in which you:

  1. Analyze your project in terms of project completion, critical path, and slack / float. Specifically, be sure to answer the following:
    • When will the project be completed?
    • What is the critical path for the project?
    • How much slack / float is in your project? What activities have the greatest slack / float?
  2. Summarize the recommendations or improvements you would make to your project schedule. Specifically, be sure to answer the following:
    • Identify the top three (3) activities that you believe could impact the project completion date.
    • What additional activities would you add to this project to make it more complete, from a project management viewpoint?
  3. Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
    • Typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
    • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.

Communications essay

For this assignment, you will analyze a research study that was published in the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication. This study is typical of how communication research findings are presented in scholarly journals. It follows a set pattern that all research studies in the empirical tradition follow, so you will look more at its “structure” than its content.

Go to “The Impact of Language Variety and Expertise on Perceptions of Online Political Discussions.”

Write a 1,050-word essay in which you describe the study based on the major headings used in the article. Make sure your essay includes answers to these questions:

* What is a literature review? What does it do?

* What terms are defined?

* How many hypotheses are there?

* Where does the Research Methodology appear in the study?

* How many cases or subjects were there in the study?

* How many hypotheses were supported by the data?

* Where are the “conclusions” given in the research paper?

(You will likely be baffled by the statistical analyses used on the data collected by the researchers unless you have had a few courses in statistics. You can skip this section of the study.)

Finally, analyze what you learned about the study. Based on what you have read in our course content, was this study well designed? Why or why not? Make sure to support all your claims with directly quoted, summarized and paraphrased material from your course resources that you have properly cited with APA-style in-text citations and end-of-text references.

Resource: Avery Foster v. Federal Express Corp., 2006 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 53779 (E. Dist. Ct. MI)

The issue in the case is whether the company’s employment handbook created an implied contract. Avery Foster was terminated for falsifying an employee timecard. He argued that he was told in his initial interview that he would be guaranteed employment at Federal Express as long as he was a good worker and was protected from “just cause” termination. The court found there was good cause to terminate Avery Foster and that the handbook did not create an implied contract of guaranteed employment.

Progressive discipline is an employee disciplinary process that provides a graduated and measured range of responses to employee performance or conduct issues. Critical thinking consideration: Short of termination, could progressive discipline have been effective in this matter?

Given the circumstances and issues that arose in the Avery Foster case, create the following:

  • Design a Progressive Discipline Policy that would be appropriate for most organizations to follow, with consideration to the following measures:
    • Identify the discipline issues to be addressed: attendance, performance, conduct, or a single broad category of non-performance.
    • Determine whether or not the provisions of the policy should permit the company to modify and/or apply the policy in any manner it deems appropriate under the circumstances, including acceleration of steps, exclusion of steps, or repetition of steps.
    • Assess when a supervisor may act independently or needs to seek upper management approval.
    • Explain instructions on when to involve Human Resources.
    • Clarify the role of Human Resources to advise or approve disciplinary action.
    • Determine when a witness should be present.
    • Outline the different sequences and progressive levels of discipline that an employee can receive.
    • Develop rules regarding merit increases in relation to disciplinary action.

Write the policy in the third-person in no more than 1,400 words.

Use headings that appropriately signal the steps and keep your policy organized.

Use a minimum of three different research resources, and identify all sources in your Reference page.
