Humanistic and existential psychological approaches are said to be more similar than different. It is from the same level of consciousness (Schneider, 2015). The two theories often muddled together in psychology. The humanistic theory states that “humans are always striving to become the best version of themselves that they can be: Existential theory says that people are searching for the meaning of life (Schneider, 2015).

The two theories are similar, in how people achieve the preferred means through personal responsibility and free will. Humanistic and existential psychologists value human’s ability to make their own choices and lead their own lives Schneider, 2015).
Humanistic and existential psychologists place extreme importance on the individual’s experiences and subjective view. They both stress the positive sides of human nature.
Existential and humanistic psychology views people as sound and all-inclusive.
The differences lie in that humanistic psychology believes that people are good and society makes them do evil things. Existential believes that people are good and bad. The choices one makes define if they are right or wrong. You can’t get away with being immoral. The idea of truth and one’s true belief is in action and how we interact with the world (Peterson, 2014).
There are different views when it comes to humanistic and existentialistic. For me, it depends on one’s view and how we see the world? What is our experience in relationship to the world and people?
