Healthcare Finance Case 4

Case Assignment

Pearland Medical Center’s board recently decided to investigate ways
to increase revenues. The organization has the benefit of different
revenue streams, including patient revenue and returns on investments.
Additionally, the Center has just borrowed $1,000,000 on a five-year
loan with annual payment term at a 12 percent rate. The first payment
will be due one year from now. This assignment has two parts:

Part 1: Amortization Schedule

  1. Construct the amortization schedule for this loan.
  2. How do the interest payment, principal payment, and total payment change when a loan is amortized?

Part 2: Investments

  1. Suppose the board were going to invest in an ordinary annuity
requiring a payment of $10,000 over the next five years with an interest
rate of 5%. What is the future value of this ordinary annuity
    investment?
  2. The board is considering other options for investing as well. For
example, they want to double their investment of $70,000 over the next
12 years by using conventional securities with a projected return of 6%.
Does the present value of the investment indicate that this is
    possible?
  3. What criteria should you examine in considering annuities? Include
the common characteristics of variable annuity and equity-indexed
    annuity in your response.

Add citations to business discussion

“While you relied on some reliable sources, the assigned text readings must serve as your primary source, as was indicated in multiple places. This week, the assigned readings are Chapters 1 and 3 of the Kroenke text. Please edit your post to include extensive citations from the assigned readings. Among these should be a discussion of the concept of “ethics” according to the principles of utilitarianism and categorical imperative that are discussed in the text.”

Please edit post according to the above critique. The post is below. The reference needed is

Question six: If you are in this situation, would you leave the company? Why or why not?

If I were in such a situation, I would not leave the company. The decision for the promoter of Yikes to sell the company to Major Capital was perhaps not the right thing to do, but that is already out of hands. Ethical decision making is critical in this case (Wood, 2001). The transition process is too fast than it would be expected. Andrea Parks’s mentions that the company intends to produce bikes which are of low quality than the Yike brand. He also mentions that the company plans to cut some of the employees in the manufacturing department and also in the customer care department. Park argues that those employees who spend much time with the customers need to be laid off. All these suggestions are unethical and harmful to both the employees and even to the customers (Trevino, 2006). Park mentions that the market will take time before detecting that the quality of the bikes is different meaning that the company intends to use the brand to deceive the customers.

The planned layoffs are unprocedural neither do they seem to take care of the employee’s needs. The request by the former promoter that park may take care of the employees is ignored. The employees have not been given any notice on such changes. Given the situation, leaving the company or choosing to stay would not change anything much but perhaps staying in the new company creates a possibility of a few changes. I would use my position to make the new boss understand the right way of doing things and make the decisions which do not harm the employees while still making the business competitive. Leaving the company would also be harmful to my wife yet my resignation would perhaps change nothing to the company. I would therefore not leave but choose to stay in the company.

Women Pillars of Playwrighting

Looking at an overview of women in Theatre and Cinema, women playwrights and the work that they and other female writers are now doing as we see ourselves in an age where the relationship between men and women and how society views them have never been closer. However, there is still a gap that remains with the role and influence of women in politics, religion, business and entertainment. The American view of the “Ideal Woman” has changed in the last 100 years and even more drastically in the last 40 years since the 1970’s when the voices of women and the issues that directly affected them began to get heard in stronger way. Remember that is it still less then 100 years since women have had the right to vote in America. Only since the 60’s that women have been allowed their own credit credits cards separate from their husbands just to name a few examples….. Times have changed and much of that is with the voices of women writing about women and the trials and struggles they face. We have seen from film to T.V. to the theatrical stage a huge upsurge of female-centric storytelling and even, perhaps, a future female president! Remember that like her or not… Hillary Clinton won the popular vote in the 16′ elections by roughly 3 million votes and came the closest woman to ever hold the seat of President.

YOUR ASSIGNMENT:

Choose one female playwright from this small list and do further research on that playwright.

This is a very short list of some very important female playwrights over the last 100 years.

Your list to choose from:

Sarah Ruhl

Katori Hall

Paula Vogel

Wendy Wasserstein

Susan-Lori Parks

Lillian Hellman

Sarah Kane

Caryl Churchill

Marsha Norman

Beth Henley

Maya Angelou

Lorraine Vivian Hansberry

Rebecca Gillman

Lynn Nottage

Kathryn Bigelow

Shonda Rhimes

Linda Bloodworth-Thomason

Topics of discussion would be:

The playwright’s history and background.

How they came into being a playwright?

You
can discuss topics and themes that are/were important to the playwright
and how being a woman influenced their Art in a positive or negative
way.

The nature of the playwrights world
and society in terms political, social and religious view of the
playwrights time and era with respect to women’s issues that may have
influence their art and storytelling.

What
impact did the playwright have on the overall public and political
discourse about topics that are considered women’s issues? Was it
positive or negative

Awards, recognition or infamy that they may have received as a result of their work.

Would you like to watch a play by this playwright? Why or why not?

A minimum of TWO pages double spaced.

You may include 1-2 pictures with your research.

Proper formatting and spelling.

Comic book

For your paper, you will be conducting a very basic critical analysis of a graphic novel of your choice. You may also use a story arc consisting of several issues. You may not use a single issue of a comic for your analysis. Here’s the breakdown:

· 4 pages total

· 1” margins

· MLA format (including headings and Works Cited Page)

· 4 sources (one for the book itself. One for your theory. Two others for supporting evidence (could be other critical analyses or other definitions for your theory, or a definition describing your lens of choice, etc.)

How to move forward:

1. Pick a graphic novel or story arc. Approve it with me.

2. Read it.

3. Think about which lens would work. Remember. This semester we covered:

a. Psychological Lens

b. Sociological Lens

c. Race/Ethnicity

d. Feminist Lens

e. Monomyth

4. Find a theory within the lens you choose. For example, if you choose the psychological lens, choose a psychology theory.

5. Write paper.

Writing the Paper:

The paper is broken down into six sections.

1. Introduction

2. Summary (1/2 page).

3. Value judgment (1/2 page) (what did you like about the comic book? What didn’t you like?) Cover:

a. Art work

b. Content (story)

c. Character(s)

d. You may cover other elements like paneling, lettering, etc.

4. Introduce us to your lens and theory (1/2 page to 1 page)

a. Tell us about your theory? Which lens does it fall under? Who created the theory? Can you provide us with a working definition?

5. Analyze your text using the lens.

6. Conclusion

If you need help finding a theory, please consult the “theories” document in the final weekly folder.

FINAL NOTE: If you deviate a bit from the organization, that is fine. For example, some students incorporate analysis into the summary because they don’t want to waste an entire page of the paper summarizing the text. That would be acceptable.

Another example would be incorporating the introduction of your lens/theory into the intro paragraph and then not discussing it after the summary section. This too would be acceptable.

FAQ:

Q: Can I expand upon one of my journals for this assignment?

A: Naw. That would inhibit your growth as a literary analyst!

Instructions

NOTE: All submitted work is to be your original work. You may not use any work from another student, the Internet or an online clearinghouse. You are expected to understand the Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism Policy, and know that it is your responsibility to learn about instructor and general academic expectations with regard to proper citation of sources as specified in the APA Publication Manual, 6th Ed. (Students are held accountable for in-text citations and an associated reference list only).

Step 1: Preparation for Writing the Assignment

Before you begin writing the paper, you will read the following requirements that will help you meet the writing and APA requirements. Not reading this information will lead to a lower grade:

Review “How to Analyze a Case Study” under Week 8 Content. You are expected to use the facts from the case scenario focusing on using this information to determine opportunities and to solve problems.

Read the grading rubric for the assignment. Use the grading rubric while writing the paper to ensure all requirements are met that will lead to the highest possible grade.

In writing this assignment, you will read and following these tasks:

Task 1: Third person writing is required. Third person means that there are no words such as “I, me, my, we, or us” (first person writing), nor is there use of “you or your” (second person writing). If uncertain how to write in the third person, view this link: http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/education/grammar/first-second-and-third-person.

Task 2: Contractions are not used in business writing, so you are expected NOT to use contractions in writing this assignment.

Task 3: You are expected to paraphrase and are NOT to use direct quotes. You are expected to paraphrase, which can be learned by reviewing this link: https://writing.wisc.edu/Handbook/QPA_paraphrase2.html.

Task 4: You are responsible for APA only for in-text citations and a reference list.

Task 5: You are expected to use the facts from the case scenario paired with the weekly courses readings to develop the analysis and support the reasoning. No more than three (3) external resources can be used in completing the assignment. The expectation is that you provide a robust use of the course readings. If any material is used from a source document, it must be cited and referenced. A reference within a reference list cannot exist without an associated in-text citation and vice versa. View the sample APA paper and the How to Cite and Reference file located under Week 4 content.

Step 2: How to Set Up the Paper

Create a Word or Rich Text Format (RTF) document that is single-spaced, single-spaced between paragraphs, 12-point font. The final product will be between 3-5 pages in length excluding the title page and reference page. You may not exceed five (5) pages so it is important to write clearly and concisely.

Follow a memo format.

  • To:
  • From:
  • Subject:
  • Body

Students will also create a title page with title, your name, the course, the instructor’s name; date.

Note: Students are not writing an essay paper so the assignment should reflect a memo format that is appropriate for the workplace.

Step 3: Read and use the Global Delivery Direct (GDD) Company Profile.

Step 4: Read critically and analyze the following scenario:

An emergency meeting was called in London by John Smythe Heathering, the Executive Director of Corporate Services, when the 2015 numbers came out for the business. Sales dropped 7% overall in a quarterly downward spiral with the largest portion of decline having been in the American division at 3.8%. The move to “Business First” in America prevented the loss from being as great as 6.5%. This change helped but not enough to overcome the full 6.5%. The competition continues to make inroads into the business not just in America but Asia as well.

The purpose of the emergency meeting is to discuss the decline in sales and make whatever decisions necessary to reverse the trend with immediate implementation. The question before the group is how do we reverse the downward trend? A competitive edge is necessary. As 21st century leaders, the Executive Directors realize that five challenges have to be examined if they are to find ways keep the company running at a profit. Further, they know that as company leaders they will have to lead the change required to make the recommendations work.

In the emergency meeting, the Directors decided that they needed professional help. They turn to you, a leadership consultant to help them discover ways in which they can improve sales of the company and set the company up for long-term financial health.

Step 5: Explain each leadership challenge facing the 21st century leader: adaptability, sustainability, innovation, knowledge management, and globalization and the relationship each has to developing a competitive edge in business today.

Task 1: Read the course readings on leadership challenges in the 21st century.

Task 2: Read the course readings on competitive advantage

Task 3: For each of the identified challenges, discuss the relationship each has to the 21st century businesses competitive edge.

Step 6: Evaluate GDD’s status regarding each of these challenges.

Task 1: Analyze GDD’s current business status in terms of each of the leadership challenges. Note that an analysis goes beyond making statements or regurgitating facts.

Task 2: Discuss GDD’s current business status in terms of each of the leadership challenges. Be specific in evaluating the status against each challenge. Do not expect that any one response is correct, as what is presented has to be reasonable and fit with GDD’s vision, mission and goals. Support the reasoning with rigorous, focused thinking that demonstrates the analytical skills GDD is looking from you.

Step 7: Make at least two practical recommendations for each leadership challenge that will put GDD on the path to financial success and sustainability and explain the reasoning for doing so.

Task 1: Provide a minimum of two practical recommendations for each leadership challenge. Recommendations should integrate the facts from the scenario and from the company profile and be specific to the GDD business. Do not take information from outside sources and present as though it fits the scenario.

Task 2: Make sure to use the grading rubric to complete this step.

Step 8: Select one of the challenges for which you made recommendations and explain how the Executive Directors, as change agents, will go about implementing the recommendations.

Task 1: Select one of the challenges discussed in Step 7. Explain how the Executive Directors will implement the recommendation. Make sure the explanation is well thought out and does not present what the Executive Directors should do but how they will do it. In doing so, be specific and support the reasoning with examples and be sure to use the Company information and the course readings.

Step 9: Review the Paper

Read the paper to ensure all required elements are present. Use the grading rubric to ensure that you gain the most points possible for this assignment.

Proofread the paper for spelling and grammatical issues, and third person writing.

  • Read the paper aloud as a first measure;
  • Use the spell and grammar check in Word as a second measure;
  • Have someone who has excellent English skills to proof the paper;
  • Consider submitting the paper to the Effective Writing Center (EWC). The EWC will provide 4-6 areas that may need improvement.

Step 10: Submit the paper in the Assignment Folder (The assignment submitted to the Assignment Folder will be considered a student’s final product and therefore ready for grading by the instructor. It is incumbent upon the student to verify the assignment is the correct submission. No exceptions will be considered by the instructor).
