Variations in Approaches to Care

This week’s first discussion forum will focus on immigrants and refugees.

Describe the basic premise of both the community and market-oriented
approach to health care, as highlighted in Chapter 10 of your text. To
what extent is each multidisciplinary? How might each approach help
and/or hinder health care access for immigrants and refugees? What are
ways in which these approaches can promote a culturally inclusive health
care experience for this group? Include a brief analysis of the role
that health delivery models can play alongside these approaches in the
provision of culturally competent care.

Your initial contribution should be 250 to 300 words in length. Your
research and claims must be supported by a minimum of two scholarly
sources beyond your course text.  Use proper APA formatting for  in-text
citations and references

Alternative Assessments aligned with the previous standards from the benchmard

Part 1 Assessment: create a student-centered learning experience and alternative assessment for students to do something (project, presentation, brochure, etc.) with the content material. Your alternative assessment should include:

  • Math and ELA state standards (from your benchmark).
  • Learning objective.
  • Formative questions to assess prior knowledge, probe for understanding, and promote independent learning prior to students beginning assessment during the instructional learning.
  • Complete description of instructions for learning experience.
  • Complete description of alternative assessment.

Part 2 Part 2: Reflection

In 100-200 words, reflect and answer the following questions:

What are the ethical related issues related to using student progress data, from assessments, in order to promote growth and learning? How will you make sure you are being ethical in your use of data in your classroom?

Career-Interest Presentation

Part 1: For the final presentation, include the following:

Select and use a presentation tool such as PowerPoint, Prezi, or another choice discussed during this term.

For your content, choose a career interest that you might pursue after completing your degree program or a field of study interest that you might pursue within your degree program.

The presentation should include the following:

A title slide that includes your name as author, the date, and your course name/section number/session/year.

An introduction slide that introduces your topic, why you chose it, and your thesis statement.

A slide describing your career interest or field of study that connects how this topic relates to your degree plan or career interest.

Then, use your concept map to create slides that address each of your critical thinking questions using details from your research; cited, in-text, and referenced. This should include cited facts about potential salary, work conditions, type of activities included, or other details you have selected, using four (4) or more different sources (book, journal article, website, video, etc) of which 2 are scholarly sources. Bullet the key points on your slides.

Use, cite in-text, and reference at least four (4) source citations and at least two (2) of the sources must be scholarly sources from the APUS library. Do not include generic web sources such as Wikipedia or About.com

Reference all sources, graphics, and videos in a chosen format style (APA, MLA, or Chicago) at the end of your presentation.

Create a script, rehearse, record, and properly embed narration for your entire presentation.

Include a minimum of two (2) different media forms to enhance your presentation that include video, images, graphics, animation, or additional audio.

Use at least one (1) advance feature of your presentation tool. This may include slide transitions, animation, or automatically playing videos or narration.

Part 2: In addition to your presentation, in the text box of the assignment, write a 5-8 sentence paragraph reflection on the finished presentation and the overall process of completing your presentation. This should address how you used the Big 6 Model in its creation.

Research on Asperger’s Syndrome

Students choose a disability to learn more about (Asperger’s syndrome). The student should type a 4-page paper on the disability, using basic APA formatting (e.g., 12 font, one-inch margin, double-space, citation, page number, and reference in a correct APA format). No title page or abstract is needed. For this paper, at least three (3) different sources should be used;

(1) 1 peer-reviewed scholarly journal article (not popular journals like Time or Newsweek)

(2) 1 organization, such as Council for Exceptional Children, or Council for Learning Disabilities, etc.

(3) 3rd source of your choice (except for Wikipedia, personal blogs, or interviews of people you know)

The paper must address:

(1)Introduction (written in 3rd person!)

-Why did you choose your topic?

-What inspired you to explore the selected topic?

(2)Definitions/characteristics of Asperger’s Syndrome

(3)Family support resources

-What is out there to support family to learn more about the Asperger or help them with their children.

(4)Learning Environments (Socio-emotional, physical, and behavioral environments- ALL THREE)

1. Socio-emotional Environment

  • E.g., Attitude of teachers and students, self-esteem, risk-free/friendly environment, positive interaction among students, motivation, engagement, cooperation, social skills

2. Behavioral Environment

  • E.g., reward system, rules/expectation, routine, behavior management techniques, positive behavior supports, schedule

3. Physical Environment

-E.g., Seating, floor, wall display, lighting, desk/work area/furniture arrangements, accessibility, teacher-student proximity, grouping

  • Create these three environments to help student with the disabilities. What kind of socio-emotional, physical and behavioral environment would you create to help student with Asperger? What kind of strategies would you use to help students with Asperger’s syndrome?
  • Give example and Explain why you create the kind of environment.

(5)Conclusion

  • What is the overall conclusion of your research?
  • What are the suggestions for future research?
  • How would the newly acquired knowledge assist you, when you work with students with disabilities and their family?

All five sections should be relevant to the selected disability category. Students are required to use these five topics as subheadings of the research paper.

Prominent Leaders: Steve Jobs

Essay focuses on a prominent leader who you admire, and it can be anyone of your choosing. There are three main components that you need to address fully in your paper:

  • Explain whether the leader’s style is transformational or transactional.
  • Describe the leadership characteristics that the leader demonstrates.
  • Describe the aspects of servant leadership that the leader exhibits.

The body (or text) of the paper should be three to four pages in length, in addition to the title and references pages. So, the total length of your paper needs to be at least 5+ pages.

Two scholarly sources, plus the text, must be used. This means there needs to be at least 3+ sources on the references page.

Attached is the Grading Rubics

unit 1

Address the topics below. Your original response should be at (least 350 words each discussion) and
should reflect the fact that you have completed the assigned readings for the
week. Remember, this is your chance to illustrate not only your understanding,
but also your mastery of the materials for the unit. Use your words wisely so
the posting has substance and includes examples and explanations. Limit the use
of direct quotes, and do your best to critically synthesize and evaluate the
literature in your own words wherever possible. Make sure to include in-text
citations and a reference list as appropriate.

1.) Choose a hypothetical client, or a client you have actually worked
with; if the latter, do not give any identifying information about that
actual client (e.g., change their name, their age, and their
location). Give an example of three different target behaviors in your
chosen client: one you would like to increase, another you would like
to maintain, and a third you would like to decrease. Discuss the
importance of making sure that the target behaviors are specific,
observable, and measurable. What method of recording and reporting the
target behaviors would you use, and why did you select this method over
other methods?

2) Using the target behaviors from the first Discussion topic, select one
that you would like to focus on changing. With this goal in mind
(increasing, maintaining, or decreasing the behavior), design an
appropriate behavioral intervention that you believe would be effective
in meeting your goal. Briefly discuss the ethical issues that apply,
referencing either (or both) the Behavior Analyst Certification Board
Guidelines for Responsible Conduct and/or the APA’s Ethical Principles
of Psychologists and Code of Conduct.

3) Identify a personal behavior that you would like to change. Please note
that you will focus on this behavior for each of the projects
throughout this course. Discuss the operational definition of this
behavior, indicate whether you want to increase or decrease this
behavior, explain why you might benefit from modifying this behavior,
and discuss any personal or ethical concerns you will need to consider
when attempting to change this behavior.

4)Choose a hypothetical client, or a client you have actually worked
with; if the latter, do not give any identifying information about that
actual client (e.g., change their name, their age, and their

Responding to 2 classmates

Hi Talia!
thank you for helping me with the 4 short questions!

I was hoping you could help me with one more thing regarding the first short question from the 4,

The question was the option international one.

I have to respond to two classmates on their posts on this topic and my professor always comlains that my response isn’t good enough because it does not have enough depth to it and sources. Can you please respond to two of these classmates posts on the”option international”?

RE: Week 5 Discussion

From the e-Activity, determine how selectionism helped this company redefine its business model.

Option International pursued a learning and selectionist approach. The selectionist trials of entire company were constantly directed by markets. The market appeared to be choosing which approach is most successful.

First, there came an attempt to brand Option products as PC accessories. The product was launched in 1998 as the FirstFone.

The initial market commentaries about the FirstFone were positive, but the product did not sell well. The Snap-on generated some sales, but was not the expected.

The second selectionist trial was an attempt at a supplier role to telecommunications companies. None of these subcontracting relationships proved to be very successful.

Yet, a third experiment was ongoing. Option had incorporated GPRS into its own card and launched it as the “Globetrotter” in the first quarter of 2001

Not all these experiments were started at the same time, but used as an alternative. They used the ventures as possible options that needed to be explored in order to make an educated choice. The knowledge gained from one tryout was immediately applied to the other experiments.

Selectionism helped Option to put more focus on the customer needs to be able to satisfy its customers.

•Select a new company or one selected in a previous discussion. Compare the challenges and the strategy used in Option International with your selected company

Escend and Options Challenges:

One of Escends challenges was customer needs. Escends had knowledge gaps because the customers could not express their needs; no one understood the product and; where it would create the most value. Option International knowledge gaps and unknowns were creating new business model and how to brand its product. Both companies were trying to get an understanding of the products for success on the market.

After failing an attempt on the market Escends reorganize the original approach to the project. Escends had to understand what they knew about the market opportunity and about their capability to take advantage of this opportunity. Like Option International unsuccessful attempt they learned from these projects. The knowledge that was gained was applied to new projects and direct collaboration with telecom operators became an Option superior business model. Both companies took the knowledge gain and took advantage of opportunities in the market.

*Provide an example of a project that would benefit from selectionism that was not discussed in the textbook or by another student, and explain why it would be beneficial.

I think Sports Authority would have benefited in selectionism by being innovational with their sale approach earlier on in the changing market. The customer was directed more towards online sales and Sports authority did not catch on, “Sports Authority, which was owned by the Los Angeles-based private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners, has said that it was hampered by $1.1 billion in debt, and was late in picking up on shifting consumer trends.1″ I think if early on if Sport Authority would have

RE: Week 5 Discussion

Option International was a company founded in 1986 with the purpose of developing modem cards and had early success in the 1990’s witch lead to more competition that they were not ready for. Option International used selectionism to brand their products as PC accessories and develope add on’s for PDA’s ( this failed). After two attempts at at the selectionist trials the third one worked, by developing a high speed data solution.

Gander Mountain is a company that has had to rethink it way of thinking when it comes to social media promotions and sales. they have had multiple set backs in the way that they advertise and the returns that they got from said advertisement and this ultimately lead to they filing bankruptcy and being reorganized under Camping Worlds Holdings they have since re-branded as Gander Outdoors.

The company that i think could have most profitted from the selectioism is the Sears and KMart merger. The social selection had already slated K-Mart to phase out due to the market impact of Target and WalMart, then you throw in Amazon to and they could not compete. Sears beliving that they could come in and some how take over and have a market foot print to match Wal Mart or Traget is not sustainable.

Minimum 300 words Biological, psychological, and social factors

Provide a brief overview of the case, along with introduction. Also
discuss biological, psychological, and social factors involved in this case.

Case Study: Taylor Experiences Cardiovascular Disease, Job and Family Stress, and Type A Personality (Biopsychosocial)

Taylor is a 60-year-old biracial male of African American and Korean heritage who works as a trial lawyer. Taylor has been divorced from his wife for the past three years following a highly contentious settlement

and has one adult son who is married with two children.

Presenting Problem: Taylor recently experienced a cardiac arrest after a longstanding history of hypertension. He smokes a pack of cigarettes a day, exercises rarely, and works long hours in a high-stress job. His father died of a heart attack in his fifties, and cardiovascular disease is rampant throughout his paternal family history. Taylor’s cardiologist has recommended that he make significant lifestyle and behavioral changes to maximize his opportunities for medical rehabilitation.

Biological Factors: Taylor’s extensive family history of cardiovascular disease and his African American ethnicity clearly place him at increased risk for hypertension and heart attack. Taylor’s cigarette smoking, lack of exercise, and stressful work likely exacerbate his medical condition.

Psychological Factors: Taylor manifests the classic Type A personality as a hard driving, competitive, high-achieving, aggressive,time-urgent individual. The Type A personality is associated with cardiovascular disease, as are high-stress jobs and lifestyles. Thus, Taylor’s personality, stressful work, and personal life may be contributing to his health problems. Finally, his smoking and lack of exercise further reflect his tension and poor health.

Social Factors: Taylor’s recent divorce and lack of social life outside his work contribute to his high stress level and lack of support.Taylor’s biracial ethnicity has prompted him to feel the need to perform exceptionally well in order to succeed as an ethnic minority in the field of law. Finally, Taylor has identified more strongly with his mother’s Korean ancestry and traditions, which were actively integrated into the home, and yet has ultimately felt conflicted and alienated from both heritages given his dominantly African American appearance and love for his father as well.

Biopsychosocial Formulation and Plan:

In addition to the regimen of medication and follow-up prescribed by his physician, Taylor would benefit from a number of other interventions as well. While his physician has told him to ‘‘stop smoking and start exercising,’’ behavior and lifestyle are exceedingly difficult to change, and Taylor may well benefit from psychological consultation to develop a smoking cessation and exercise program. Cognitive-behavioral, group, and medical (e.g., nicotine patch, nicotine gum) interventions may be combined to assist with smoking cessation, while a behavioral program may be developed in conjunction with an exercise physiologist to develop a gradual build-up in exercise. Psychological intervention would also be useful in contending with Taylor’s Type A personality and response to the considerable work and personal stressors in his life, such as cognitive-behavioral, psychoeducational, and supportive techniques. Finally, Taylor may benefit from increased social support. Consultation regarding his family relationships, ethnic attitudes and identities, and leisure needs could be beneficial.

Discussion Question 1

JT is a fifty-five-year-old man with a three-day history of worsening shortness of breath, fever, chills, right-sided chest pain, and productive cough. He states that the initial symptoms started approximately one week ago. He has been taking over-the-counter (OTC) medications to control the fever and the cough. He comes in today because he feels that he is getting worse. He is coughing up rust-colored mucus, and the chest pain has started to make breathing even more difficult. His physical exam is normal, with the exception of tachypnea, labored breathing, coarse rhonchi through the right lung field, and decreased breath sounds on the right. Answer the following questions:

What additional laboratory or radiological tests would be indicated and why? What would you expect to find?

What is your diagnosis?

What medication would be given and for what period of time?

Question 2

LN is a twenty-six-year-old married woman who presents at the clinic with symptoms of dysuria, frequency, and urgency. Further history yields two days of these symptoms but no fever, chills, or flank pain. She describes a burning discomfort during and immediately following urination and feeling the need to void every half hour. There is no vaginal discharge, itching, or odor. She is not using birth control at this time. She requests “a urine culture and some sulfa pills.” When asked to explain, she says she has had many “bladder infections” over the past three years and “sulfa pills usually work.” She was evaluated approximately five years ago with an IV pyelography and cystogram, and “nothing was wrong.” All her vital signs are normal. Answer the following questions:

What additional information would you like to collect?

What is your working diagnosis?

What are the contributing factors to this potential diagnosis?

What treatment would you implement and why?

What type of follow-up would you recommend?
