Differences in Training and Development
posted by Greg Brainard, MBA, MM/HRM

Class,

I would like to ask the class what you think the differences between employee development and training are, if any? I heard a good analogy once that compared the two, which said, “training teaches you how to fish but employee development teaches you have to be a pro fisherman!” Employee development is one of the most vital elements for any organization who wants to grow and be a success in the marketplace. In my experience as a consultant with other small and medium size organizations in the past, I saw many businesses that did not have an employee development program in place then wondered why they needed someone to come in and tell them why their business was failing and screaming for help. Constant employee development and training is one of the keys to successful growth when employees can learn how to do their jobs better and learn new skills for changes in the business environment. Would you agree? Can you tell the class what the difference between an established employee development program and new-hire training? What do you think the focus is for each one? Are they the same or are they different?

Due Week 4 and worth 240 points

The strategy should include, at a minimum, an agenda of training activities, rationale for instructional strategies used, and the return on investment (ROI) that will be gained from the strategy you have developed.

You will compile an annotated resource directory outlining and summarizing worship resources identified throughout the course. The directory must be divided into the following categories and include a minimum of 20 entries per category:

These preview packets can be secured by calling or emailing the publisher and requesting a packet for use in this course. Health Insurance Benefits

Managers need to understand the impact on the financial viability of a health service organization for providing care to the uninsured or underinsured. Review the following case scenario and provide a substantive 150 to 200 word response that thoroughly answers each of the following questions:

Joe Smith is a 27- year-old Caucasian male who works two part-time jobs for two different construction companies. Joe has been having dizzy spells off and on for the past two months. While driving to work one day, he loses consciousness and is involved in a motor vehicle accident. Joe is admitted to your not-for-profit hospital with a broken leg and multiple lacerations.

  • Does Mr. Smith fit the typical profile for an uninsured person in the United States? Justify your answer.
  • How will your hospital most likely be reimbursed for Mr. Smith’s medical care?
  • During the recent economic downturn, your community has experienced unemployment rates of approximately 9%. What can be done to mitigate the effects of the financial impact to your organization?

Utilize at least one scholarly source, cited in correct APA format that supports factual statements and conclusions about the topic

history 150-200 words discussion

Initial post

It is 1787. The Philadelphia Convention that was to revise the Articles of Confederation has met.
Instead of revising the Articles of Confederation the 55 delegates from 13 states that met in Philadelphia developed an entirely new document , the Constitution of the United States.
39 of the delegates signed the document. The national debate is now should the states ratify this new document so it becomes the “law of the land”?

If you were living in 1787 what would you support?
Would you be for the Constitution as a Federalist or would you be against the new document and side with the Anti-Federalists?

Explain your choice using facts from Chapters 5 and 6a and Module 6 to support your answer.
No outside research is allowed.

paper: 1200 words

choose a building from the first half of the semester
(Western architecture before 1100 AD) and imagine that you are its designer and that you are writing a
letter to your patron/client which will accompany a plan and model of your building to explain how
your design meets the challenges inherent in the project. In particular you should focus on what
architectural decisions you made during the design process and why. Here are some suggestions of
topics that you might consider addressing (note that there might be others as they will vary from
building): function, response to site, form, materials, constructional techniques, precedents, style and
expression. Focus on the questions that would be of interest to a reader of the same period / culture
trying to understand why you designed it in the way that you did. This is an opportunity to think about
what issues were uppermost in the mind of the original architect. Do not write in an “old-fashioned”
language (or in Latin, Byzantine Greek, Medieval French, etc.), but in clear and expressive modern
English using your own words. You may use the first person if you wish. Quotations should not be
used and citations should not be needed; an appropriate bibliography, however, should be appended.
Length of mid-term paper: 1200 words.
